Hi! So since I've been kinda MIA I thought I would contribute to the community by posting a DBD. I was debating between a diary of my trip to SHA, including some not-so-gory stories of Spanish Guapo. But then that would likely bore/irritate a few folks. So in honor or my Halloween costume for this year (my crew is doing a Mad Men theme since we'll be staying on Madison Ave in NYC), after the jump, I answer that age-old question..."If the Pac-10 were a Mad Men episode..."
Don Draper/USC: Liar. Cheater. Wildly successful. Endlessly intriguing. HOT… Mark Sanchez anyone?
Roger Sterling/Stanfurd: Like the Furd, Roger is slick, entitled and cruises through life. Often acts like a petulant little child. I feel like there's an awesome Harby gif that illustrates this last point pretty well.
Pete Campbell /UCLA: Pedigreed and inconsistent, Pete and UCLA are often talked about in elevated circles (for recruits and national respect) due to a strong brand name and fabulous but un-earned circumstances (location). Seems to always play the little brother to USC’s confident/arrogant Don Draper.
Betty/Arizona: Meh. Look I actually know nothing about Arizona. Except their cheerleaders and general co-eds are hot blondes. Like… Betty.
Joan Harris /Cal: Joan describes Cal so well. Joan is very well-respected in the office but will continue to fail to break through the glass ceiling. Like Cal, Joan can’t quite get to the next level.
Joan (Cal) and Roger (Stanfurd) have this interesting dynamic. Joan and Roger don’t exist without each other. For me, Joan and Roger’s love/hate relationship describes the Cal/Stanfurd relationship the best. While the sports rivalry is TRUE and REAL, the academic camaraderie that these schools enjoy is also clear. We’re hated sports rivals but also respect each other’s great academic strengths and achievements.
Peggy Olson /Oregon: Like Peggy Olson, the Ducks are solid talent. They also benefit from great benefactors (Phil Knight/Don Draper) and owe much of their current position to them. Does Oregon get to where they are w/o Nike’s patronage? And while Peggy has broken through and has made it into the big-boy’s world, will she and Oregon have what it takes to sustain a long career and really make it to management/Elite status?
Lane Pryce /Oregon State: The Disruptor. Lane Pryce as CFO, is that ever steady presence in the background, keeping the agency afloat, doing solid work. While the Creatives and Account Management go along and try to create and win business… they all know that they will eventually have to go to Lane Pryce for an accounting. Similarly, the Cals, Oregons and USCs of the conference will have to play OState sooner or later.
Bertram Cooper/Washington: Like Bertram Cooper, Washington is the school with a great deal of formidable and impressive history. While currently somewhat irrelevant, Cooper/Washington are still a force to be reckoned with.
Sally Draper /Arizona State: Damaged by Daddy’s antics. Like poor little Sally, ASU continues to keep hurting under Dennis Erickson’s leadership.
"Duck" Phillips /Washington State: Currently an embarrassment. Used to be relevant. Sorry cougs. Not much to say here.
Wouldn't it be kinda cool to have a whole week of these? Poll idea!
