CGB Top-25 Week 8 Results

1 Oregon (8) --
2 Boise State (2) --
3 Auburn (2) 1
4 TCU 1
5 Michigan State 2
6 Utah 3
7 Missouri 5
8 Alabama 2
9 Oklahoma 4
10 Ohio State 1
11 Stanford 1
12 Wisconsin 3
13 Nebraska --
14 LSU 6
15 Arizona 2
16 Oklahoma State 2
17 Florida State 1
18 Iowa 2
19 South Carolina --
20 Southern California 1
21 Arkansas 1
22 Nevada 2
23 Oregon State 2
24 Virginia Tech 1
25 California (1) 15

Others receiving votes:
Miami (Fla.), West Virginia, Baylor, Mississippi State, Florida, San Diego State, Syracuse, North Carolina, Air Force, Washington State, Georgia, Northwestern, Iowa State

Dropped out this week: West Virginia

Biggest Difference from the AP Poll: California +15, Oregon State +10, Mississippi St -6, Oklahoma ST +4, Southern California +4, Nevada +4, Miami (Fla.) -4

Biggest Difference from the BCS Poll: Mississippi St -8, Miami (Fla.) -4, Baylor -3, Southern California UNR, Oregon State UNR, California UNR

The striking thing here is that we're remarkably close to the AP and BCS poll in the top half. It's just when we get to the last five or so that it diverges wildly. CGB is content to stick with USC, Cal, Oregon St and Nevada while ignoring Miami, Baylor and Mississippi St. In other news, Missouri and Auburn are the biggest winners while Oklahoma drops a little and LSU plummets down the poll. West Virginia still received votes despite losing to Syracuse, however it was not enough to crack the Top-25.

The Biggest Sunshine Pumper Award goes to...

... rocksanddirt who voted for Cal as #1!

This award was presented to the user(s) who loved Cal the most out of everyone who voted this week and had copious amounts of sunshine pumping

Really?!

The OMG Cal Sux Award goes to...

... 4Ever Golden, operbear, JShufelt, hugoschwyzer, atomsareenough, Berkelium97, Takimoto, Rated-R Superstar, beastmode, Ravenous Ute, and royrules22, all of whom did not vote for Cal!

This award was presented to the user(s) who held a glass half-empty look at Cal

Dropping half a century on a zombie led ASU isn't enough for this group.

The Five Most Confusing Teams Were...

  1. Oregon State
  2. Southern California
  3. Virginia Tech
  4. Arkansas
  5. California

Most people had the most trouble figuring out where these five teams belonged. This list is limited to teams that are in the top-25 only.

Oregon State usually fluctuated between 24 and no rank with an exceptional #18 vote. What really threw off the curve is a vote for OSU at #4. USC similarly was normal in divergence except for a #5 vote. I wonder if this person will win the most divergent award (spoiler: he does).

The Five Least Confusing Teams Were...

  1. TCU
  2. Utah
  3. Iowa
  4. Florida State
  5. Boise State

Most people were generally on the same page when it came to these teams. This list is limited to teams that are in the top-25 only otherwise all the crappy teams would top this list.

TCU was solid at #4 with an occasional vote at #3 or #6. Even our Mr. Divergent put TCU at a not too divergent #8. Utah was mostly in the 6-10 range with one vote at #4 (guess who?) to make it a little bit more divergent than TCU.

The Five Most Divergent Voters Were...

  1. rocksanddirt
  2. JShufelt
  3. Berkelium97
  4. Ravenous Ute
  5. beastmode

This avard was given to the five voters whose poll differed most from the overall Top 25.

rocksanddirt completely rocked the boat with Cal at #1, Zona at #2, Furd at #3, OSU at #4, USC at #5, Oregon at #6, Boise at #9, Auburn at #10, Mich St at #13, Mizzou at #15 and so on. As for JShuflet I'll just link you to his poll and his rationale. It's worth reading.

The Five Least Divergent Voters Were...

  1. royrules22
  2. operbear
  3. npyoung35
  4. hugoschwyzer
  5. atomsareenough

This avard was given to the five voters whose poll differed the least from the overall Top 25.

How the hell do I keep winning this thing!? My biggest change (i.e. more than a 2 spot differential) is LSU at #14 instead of #10. operbear had LSU at #8 and WVU at #22 and finished as second most divergent.
