B/R Bowl Predictions Cal vs Utah?
The latest Bleacher Report Bowl predictions have Utah facing Cal in the MAACO Bowl should Utah lose to TCU..
Personally, I'm hoping and I would hope the PAC-10 is pulling for Utah to have another undefeated season before moving to the Pac-12 next year.
But the big question for me is how prevalent is the 'Scootie attitude' i.e. "No one in California wants to watch games that don't involve a Cal team or a Pac Conference Team ranked ahead of a Cal team"???
Are Cal fans really disinterested in Utah beyond a curiosity that is joining the conference next year?
Is no one worried about facing Utah in this year's post season? Is no one following Utah because Cal is having an off year and next year Utah won't be a threat playing the Pac-12 week in & week out?
Not to sound discourteous or rude but are Cal fans really that vain???
Edit: I changed watch to follow as that is my question... I realize I was wrong in use of the term watch... you can only watch who is on your market; you can follow any team online.
The opinions expressed in a FanPost are, in every way, reflective of the opinions of every California Golden Blogs Marshawnthusiast. Moreover, they are reflective of every employee of SBNation, including Tyler "Blez" Bleszinski.

If Cal plays Utah in a bowl game this year...
then Cal would have played all other members of the Pac-12…
Intentionally inflammatory, nice
Once Cal has lost 5-6 games, they’re having an off-year. Until that point, please reserve judgment.
And no, I don’t watch Utah and don’t plan on watching them until they join the Pac-12. Also, if Cal makes a bowl, I hope they play someone else.
We just played Utah last year, we’re about to be in the same league and play regularly, it’s not much fun for the team to play a bunch of other Californians, it’s more fun as a Pac guy to see us take on someone from a power conference, especially if it’s in some crappy bowl like the MAACO Bowl.

Originally...
I was curious about sharing a bye week and what Cal fans would think about facing Utah again in the bowl season…
Then I came to realize its a moot/stupid question if no one cares / pays attention to outside California. I guess Scottie’s comment just really stuck with me.

I think most Pac-10 fans follow the Utah games out of curiousity for next year, and I believe this site here had an open thread for the Utah – Pitt game. The only game I catch in its entirety are Cal games (as in the university not teams from the state), and I usually catch about half of two or three other games. I usually decide these other games based on if (A) they are a compelling game, (B) they are a future or past opponent (hence a strong lean towards Pac-10 games, © they are important conference games [like Furd – Oregon], and (D) and this is most important, if it is on TV. With exception to the first game, Utah has not been on tv in the Los Angeles market, therefore it is hard to follow. Furthermore, the quality of opponents Utah has faced the past three weeks is pretty poor, failing point A.
The assertion that we don’t want to watch Utah on television because they are ranked ahead of us is completely and utterly wrong. We are not that vain or trivial. Check that, in rereading your statement I don’t even know what your assertion is. There are 24 other teams ranked as well, and we still have 9 other teams in our conference, and I don’t watch all their games. I do have interest in Utah and games beyond the Pac-10, but I also try to be active and socialize, hence I only catch other games when I can. That, combined with the fact they are rarely on tv in LA, means I watch very few Utah games.
As for the bowl game, its far too early to start talking bowl season.
Edited for clarity Thank you chowder
Changed watch to follow
Again thank you chowder…

1) I’m hoping that Utah does well this year because it adds to the prestige of the conference when they actually join.
2) I don’t have time to actively watch nor follow them. Sorry.
3) I’m not worried about facing them in a bowl game…unless they start running the Pistol. No disrespect intended – I’m just not worried about bowl projections this early in the season.
4) Yes. We really are that vain.

Utah?
You ask “Are Cal fans really that vain???” because we don’t breathlessly follow Utah, or take an active rooting interest in them.
Honestly?
Tell me, how many Ute fans do you reckon are glued to their TVs watching Cal games? Or Washington State games?
My interest in Utah is relegated to seeing how they did, and maybe catching part of a game if it’s shown in LA. Beyond that, I honestly don’t really spend a lot of time worrying about them. Why? Well, the fact that nothing Utah really does directly impacts Cal’s standing in the conference.
My rooting interest in Utah is now one of guardedly positive – much like any other Pac-10 team. I’ll side with you against your opponents, but not get all worked up if you lose.
So, good luck on the rest of your games this year, and if we have a re-match in a bowl, that would be nice. But seriously, if you lose or win every remaining game, it won’t change my day one way or another.

Honestly...
…I think there is a reason you see me and many Ute fans on all the Pac-10 & Colorado Buffs board this year. Maybe its just a quirk but we tend to follow our competition avidly… though our coach won’t permit his players to look beyond their next opponent, Utah fans tend to follow future competition pretty thoroughly. Mostly, because we try not to appear like complete ignoramuses, but we have our share of clueless fans.
Showing respect, class and knowledge is a goal for the majority of Ute fans, which is why Block U has its slogan.
Alas, we are but human (contrary to what ever rumors you may have heard), so at times we’ll be emotional and fall short of that goal, but in all honestly we do try.

Utah is a perennially good (of late), fun to watch team. Let’s not compare them to Washington State.

I’m a Cal fan. At least half the season I couldn’t watch many other games even if I wanted to, because I am spending 12 hours or so of my Saturday traveling to Berkeley and back, and attending the Cal game. I don’t get why it’s vain to be primarily interested in following my own team and games that directly affect my own team.

I love college football, have a sports package that lets me watch all the regional channels, so I’m willing to watch a lot of games. Generally I’m not interested in watching two unranked teams, but if there’s one ranked team playing another team that might give them a game….I’m probably interested. One problem with a team like Utah – being in a lesesr conference, they won’t play as many interesting matchups imo, so I’m less interested in watching. Utah/TCU, Utah/BYU interest me, Utah/Wyoming (by the way, their jerseys are so disgusting it’s worth a mention here) or Utah/UNLV do not interest me.
I had absolutely no idea New Balance made collegiate uniforms.

Fair enough..
Just some games you might be interested in:
Oct 9th at Iowa State
Oct 30th at No. 25 Air Force whose only loss so far is by 3 at Oklahoma
Nov 6th vs No. 5 TCU Possible ESPN Gameday if both teams are undefeated when they meet & Rice-Eccles should be standing room only.
Nov 13th at ND on NBC Will be an interesting comparison with Standford’s game at ND.
Nov 20th at San Diego State whose only loss so far is at undefeated Missouri also by 3 points.
Nov 27th vs BYU in the final MWC Holy War, BYU sucks this year but again standing room only and a good indicator of our rivalry games. Expect this to be the one game of the year where Utah runs up the score.
Other than those 6 yeah I can’t see a reason for a non-Ute to be interested.
