Cal Men's Hoops vs Stanfurd Open Thread
Stanford Cardinal at California Golden Bears, Jan 2, 2010 4:00 PM PST
Time: 4 PM PST/7 PM EST
TV: CSN California, Radio: KFRC 1550 AM, Streams: Post links in comments
All of the stat numbers below are from Pomeroy.
Individual Cardinal stats: Two players take the majority of the shots--Landry Fields (32% of the shots) and Jeremy Green (29.3%)...neither turnover the ball much, Fields and Jarrett Mann are exceptionally good at drawing fouls...Fields is highly efficient on offense and also has a high defensive rating...Mann is 46th in the country in assist rate...both Jack Trotter and Drew Shiller both have high offensive ratings in limited minutes.
Team stats comparison
Efficiency: Cal offense (5th) vs Furd defense (141st); Cal defense (42nd) vs Furd offense (125th)--looks like Cal is the more efficient team here.
Effective FG %: Cal defense (129th) vs Furd offense (118th); Cal offense (59th) vs Furd defense (251st)--Cal needs to take advantage of Furd's bad shooting defense.
Turnovers: Cal TOs on offense (37th) vs Furd TOs forced on defense (113th); Cal forced TOs on defense (292nd) vs Furd TOs on offense (8th)--don't look for many TOs.
Offensive rebounds: Cal on offense (72nd) vs Furd allowing them on D (32nd); Cal allowing them on defense (9th) vs Furd on offense (291st)--Furd aren't likely to get many extra possessions, but Cal might have trouble too.
FTA/FGA: Cal on offense (304th) vs Furd on defense (239th); Cal on defense (111th) vs Furd on offense (153rd)--Something's gotta give here.

Am I the only one who looks up and down UW’s roster and doesn’t see much of any reason why they should be better than any other team in the conference? What do they do well?

Dunigan’s pretty unstoppable down there. Armstead has some hops. They did some pretty good pick and rolling the last few minutes.

Gotta love that intro voiceover. “Styanfurd… and Cyal.”

Ragnarok isn’t going to be happy about the ‘what we know about Cal’ segment
The #1 greatest threat to America: BEARS
My friend told me ticket prices for this game dropped the other night so it may very well could be sold out.
Was it a sellout? It was pretty full, and all the usual scalpers were only asking for tickets, not looking to sell, but I still saw some empty seats in the tops of the corners? Perhaps some fans pack it in down lower if they can.
So, basically, you gotta Go Bears!
Paid attendance was 10,758. It would’ve looked even more full if the students had been there.
Go Bears!

The Warriors, Kings and Sharks are all in action tonight other than the Stanford-California game.

That three-pointer was really, really, really tough.

They could have done the gentlemenly thing such as in soccer, where you intentionally kick it out of bounds. Then you get it back.

OK, was that the best half Cal’s played this year, or am I giving Stanford too much credit?

Shooting Percentages
Stanford is shooting 28.1 percent while Cal is at 65.5 percent.

Fields and Green
They’re a combined 6-for-22, which is just a little worse than the team average.

Hope Cal widens the lead to 30-35 by the 8-10 minute mark
Get Randle, Christopher, Robertson, Boykin the rest they’ll need for stiffer competition next week.

Did you see the sigh and headshake of resignation after Max got that offensive rebound and put back?
It's dat Woo Woooooo.
Heh, if he does this against Dunigan we can revisit this subject.

Washington lost 90-79
We could I mean will take a 1 game lead
by calgoldenbears101 on Jan 2, 2010 5:38 PM PST reply actions
You know, between the defense, drawn fouls, and 13 points, Max may actually be the MVP of the game.
The #1 greatest threat to America: BEARS
Still give it to Randle, but Max was definitely key role player.

Did he just compare Randle to Brandon Jennings?

Rated-R, you watched that game
Did Jennings look like Randle?

by Avinash Kunnath on Jan 2, 2010 5:58 PM PST up reply actions
Maybe
With his scoring ability, I guess you could say that he did; however, in terms of floor vision and his ability to create for others, Jennings is clearly superior if you ask me.

Word from Cal is Gutierrez injured his right knee and the medical staff is evaluating it. He will not return today. Don’t know more than that. Will update as soon as we know more.
that’s the last report from Farudo on Jorge. If he’s OK then today was a huge day for the bball team.

dude. What. The. Fuck.
I’m pretty sure we’ll get a torrent up, so you’ll be fine. But it was all sorts of WIN
It's dat Woo Woooooo.
Was at the game.
The Zhang Movement was in full effect. Jerome – it looked like he was toying with whomever Furd threw at him – like he was trying out new dribble moves on the defender. I think he could’ve scored anytime he wanted, but he was content to set up Amoke, Max Boykin Theo and PChris.
Crowd was somewhat loud, but not really needed, if it had been a tight game, the crowd couldve swung it our favor.
I hate that Tree.

USC defeated ASU 47-37 in a game that sounds like it set offensive basketball back a few decades. ASU shot 24% from the field. Cal scored more points today than both teams combined. Yuck
The #1 greatest threat to America: BEARS
I don’t get it, why did USC play ASU in football today? Sounds like a great game, though, I love an offensive shootout.
