PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) -- Jerome Randle scored a career-high 39 points as California beat Washington State 93-88 on Thursday to retain first place in the Pac-10.
California (11-5, 3-1 Pac-10) jumped out to big leads at the beginning of each half, and then held off Washington State rallies to win for the fifth time in six games.
Washington State (12-5, 2-3) fell behind by 20 points in the first eight minutes, but came back to trail by only four at halftime. Hot shooting by Cal, including 11 of 20 3-pointers, kept the Cougars from taking the lead. The Bears opened the game on a 28-8 run led by three-pointers from Randle, Theo Robertson and Patrick Christopher. Jamal Boykin also had six points in that opening run.
With starter Markhuri Sanders-Frison unavailable to play due to a back injury, and a shortened bench without Jorge Gutierrez, the four senior leaders paved the way for Cal's third conference win in four games.
Robertson posted 11 of his 13 points in the first half, and Boykin notched 10 of his 16 in the opening half.
The Cougars were able to cut the lead to four at halftime behind 10 first-half points from Reggie Moore, who connected on two of the four three-pointers he took in the first half.
Similar to the first half, Cal jumped out of the gate quickly, increasing the lead to 10 points at the 16:29 mark.
Cal held leads of at least eight points until WSU cut the lead to seven with a minute and a half left in regulation. The Cougars couldn't get over the hill and take a late lead in the closing minutes of regulation because the Bears went 7-for-10 from the charity stripe in the final two minutes.

Women’s Basketball beats UW:
The California Golden Bears topped the Washington Huskies, 60-43, Thursday night at Haas Pavilion. Alexis Gray-Lawson helped lead her team to their first Pac-10 victory of the season, scoring a team-high 19 points.
Cal started the game slow, shooting under 30% in the first five and a half minutes, with Washington pushing out to a 18-9 early advantage. Cal’s pressure on defense ignited the offense, with the Bears going on a 7-0 run, capped by a three-pointer by senior guard Lauren Greif on a feed from Alexis Gray-Lawson to pull within two, 18-16. The Huskies continued to hold the lead until a jumper by Layshia Clarendon followed almost immediately by a steal and a layup by freshman forward Gennifer Brandon put Cal up by a point with just over two minutes remaining in the half. Washington hit a jump shot with 35 seconds left in the half to take a 25-24 lead into the break.
In the second half, an inspired Cal team took the floor and took control of the game from the inbounding of the ball. In the first four minutes of the second half, Cal forced six Washington turnovers, allowing the Huskies just three shots in that span. On the offensive side, Cal went on a 14-3 run to go from trailing by 2 to leading the game by nine. Cal kept the pressure on the entire second-half, forcing 18 Washington turnovers in the period. Freshman guard Eliza Pierre had five steals in the final 20 minutes of play. Offensively, senior guard Alexis Gray-Lawson made the most of transition scoring, adding 15 points in the second period, hitting five of her seven shots. Gray-Lawson ended the game with a team-high 19 points.

I watched the game on TV since, oddly, the women were televised and the men were not.
The game turned in Cal’s favor early in the second half when Cal went on a 10-0 run in the space of a minute and a half. Eliza Pierre was amazing in the second half. She was just all over the other team, making steals and interfering with their passes and their shots. And she ignited the rest of the team on defense. Washington made only four field goals in the entire second half, and Cal outscored them 36-18 in the second half. It was a very impressive defensive showing, although on offense the Bears still had trouble making some of their shots.
This game was just what Cal needed. The season has been disappointing so far, because all those freshmen (four are starters now) haven’t quite found themselves yet. But this game gave a glimpse of just how much talent there is on this team. If they start playing like this regularly, they will have a good season. And next year could be a great season.

Womens tennis crushes opponent:
HONOLULU – The No. 3-ranked California women’s tennis team (1-0) opened the 2010 dual season with a 7-0 victory over Hawaii (0-1) on Thursday, Jan. 14, at the UH Tennis Complex. The Golden Bears earned nine victories in the match as freshman Tayler Davis earned the match-clinching point in a 6-0, 6-1 win over Aglae Van den Bergh on court six.
Defending NCAA doubles champions junior Mari Andersson and sophomore Jana Juricova got the new year started on the right foot with Cal’s first victory on the top doubles court. The tandem defeated Sophie Kobuch and Natasha Zorec, 8-6, before Davis and fellow freshman Annie Goransson took out Mari Tadaki and Van den Bergh on the third doubles court to clinch the doubles point for the Bears. Paired for the first time, junior Marina Cossou and senior Kasia Siwosz shook off the Hawaii attack to emerge with an 8-6 victory against Alyssa Nafarrete and Barbara Pinterova at No. 2 doubles.
No. 83-ranked Andersson earned the next point for the Bears as she defeated Nafarrete on court three, 6-0, 6-1. Siwosz followed suit and took out Tadaki, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 5 singles to give Cal a commanding 3-0 lead in the match. Davis’ victory over Van den Bergh came moments later to seal the win for the Bears. Goransson faced off with Zorec at No. 4 singles and registered a 6-2, 6-1 win to make the score, 5-0, before No. 10-ranked Cossou finished off Pinterova at court two, 6-1, 6-2. No. 2-ranked Juricova fell behind, 3-0, in the first set before she turned on the jets to breeze by Kobuch, 6-4, 6-1, at the top court to give Cal the 7-0 win.

Former soccer player drafted by MLS:
PHILADELPHIA – Former California forward Andrew Wiedeman was selected by FC Dallas with the No. 21 overall pick, which was the fifth pick of the second round, in the 2010 Major League Soccer SuperDraft Thursday at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. Cal’s leading scorer and a first-team All-Pac-10 selection in 2009, Wiedeman was the first forward to be drafted in the second round.
The San Ramon, Calif., product will play for FC Dallas head coach Schellas Hyndman, who previously coached Cal head coach Kevin Grimes for four years at SMU. Grimes was also an assistant coach for three years under Hyndman at his alma mater.
“This is a great day for Andrew and Cal soccer,” Grimes said. “Going to FC Dallas is going to be a perfect fit for him. Schellas is a great trainer of forwards and attacking midfielders in particular, and I think Andrew’s game will really blossom under his tutelage. The Cal team, alumni and administration are really proud of Andrew and wish him a great professional career.”
This marks the sixth consecutive year in which MLS teams drafted Cal players, a span that encompasses Grimes’ first six recruiting classes and 13 former Bears. The other 12 Bears are Stefan Frei (Toronto FC, SuperDraft), who was drafted in 2009; Andrew Jacobson (D.C. United) and Luke Sassano (New York Red Bulls), who were drafted in 2008; Eric Ebert (Houston Dynamo, SuperDraft), Nick Hatzke (Houston Dynamo, Supplemental Draft), Steve Purdy (Los Angeles Galaxy, Supplemental Draft), who were drafted in 2007; Calen Carr (Chicago Fire, SuperDraft), Tyson Wahl (Kansas City, SuperDraft) and Eric Kronberg (Kansas City, SuperDraft), who were drafted in 2006; and Troy Roberts (Los Angeles, SuperDraft), Mike Munoz (Chivas USA, Supplemental Draft) and Noah Merl (San Jose Earthquakes, Supplemental Draft) who were drafted in 2005.

Meet a softball freshmen:
BERKELEY – Freshman Jayme Goodwin, a 5-8 utility player hailing from Dublin, Calif., is new to the world of competitive softball. Goodwin played basketball and ran track for four years at Dublin High School, and took her teams to North Coast Sections twice with track and thrice with basketball. Breaking her high school team’s 4X4 record, Goodwin is a gifted sprinter and will be a threat for the Bears on the basepaths. She was an all-league honorable mention in 2007 as well as defensive player of the year in 2009 and a member of the national high school honor society. Her uncle, Tom Goodwin, played professional baseball from 1995-2004 with the Royals, Dodgers, Rangers, Rockies, Giants and Cubs. Her father, Hugh, and aunt attended Cal while her mother, Cheryl, went to UCLA, where her father went to law school. Goodwin aspires to be a doctor or lawyer after her time at Cal. CalBears.com caught up with Goodwin to learn about her first months in college, life off the diamond and more.
CalBears.com: What has been the hardest, most surprising aspect about transitioning from high school to college? Jayme Goodwin: The biggest transition from high school to college is the amount of free time one has. Homework is not, for the most part, assigned nightly. It’s just a lot of reading that you have to keep up with.
CalBears.com: What has been your favorite part about college life so far? JG: The new people I’ve met.
CalBears.com: Do you have any outside hobbies? Do you have any unique stories about yourself or qualities that set you apart from your teammates? JG: I like to cook and bake. I have never played softball, but I am going to use my speed from track and my instincts from basketball to develop into a base runner.

Swimming diary:
HONOLULU – Freshman Caitlin Leverenz takes over the blog to write about what the Golden Bears did on Tuesday in Hawaii.
Day 7 – Jan 12
Six o’clock in the morning, and the alarm went off for the sixth day in a row. It was a difficult morning to get up, but there was a trail of Golden Bears walking along the beach, ready for another ocean workout. Teri (McKeever), Kristen (Cunnane), and Nick (Folker) could all feel that it was a harder morning today.
“This is where we get better,” Teri told us as we began the workout. Everyone changed his or her attitude to a more positive one as we ran and plunged into the warm, clear Hawaiian ocean. Once the workout was over we were all in a good mood from a hard but fun and successful practice.
The Blue group got the afternoon off since we had done our double the day before; it did not take us long to get to the beach. All 12 of us laid out and soaked up some rays to make for a relaxing afternoon. Life is rough when you can lay on the beach with 11 of some of your best friends, just hanging out and enjoying each other’s company. Many of us would frequently jump into the ocean to cool off and maybe body surf a couple of waves while we were in the water. It made for a very fun and relaxing afternoon.

American Girls Bashing British Men
Apparently my GF was out with some random american girls on wednesday, and these random girls began complaining about British guys. Apparently, they have concluded british men are: mean, selfish, anti-social, and stuck up. This is based on the fact, the girls are never approached while in the bars, and no men will socialize with them. Upon hearing this, my girlfriend started quietly laughing to herself, because her first thought was ‘of course not, you are ugly’. Those girls are not pretty, and they are blaming an entire country of men for their shortcomings.
To be fair, it doesn’t mean that she’s wrong about the English. But yeah, it’s not unheard of for young ladies (or young gentlemen, for that matter) to overlook the obvious explanation.
From what I heard from my female friends that went to London, they had no problem attracting attention. In fact, they received too much attention for their liking.
Also, of the one’s I knew, their personality’s don’t help them at all (loud, obnoxious, stupid, Orange Countyesque)
In my view, any girl who won’t sleep with you is a true American patriot.

TV Ratings and Bowl Games
Pac-10 finished 4th in average:
The Rose Bowl’s TV ratings went up 13 percent. The Emerald Bowl, which featured USC and Boston College, was up 15 percent and ranked third among non-BCS bowls.
The Las Vegas Bowl and EagleBank Bowl matched last year’s rating.
The Holiday Bowl, a 33-0 Nebraska blowout of Arizona, was down five percent. The Poinsettia Bowl between California and Utah was down 25 percent, but that’s due to last year’s game featuring unbeaten Boise State and 11-2 TCU.

Researchers identify command servers behind Google attack: Definitely the Chinese
VeriSign’s iDefense security lab has published a report with technical details about the recent cyberattack that hit Google and over 30 other companies. The iDefense researchers traced the attack back to its origin and also identified the command-and-control servers that were used to manage the malware.
The cyber-assault came to light on Tuesday when Google disclosed to the public that the Gmail Web service was targeted in a highly-organized attack in late December. Google said that the intrusion attempt originated from China and was executed with the goal of obtaining information about political dissidents, but the company declined to speculate about the identity of the perpetrator.
Citing sources in the defense contracting and intelligence consulting community, the iDefense report unambiguously declares that the Chinese government was, in fact, behind the effort. The report also says that the malicious code was deployed in PDF files that were crafted to exploit a vulnerability in Adobe’s software.
“The source IPs and drop server of the attack correspond to a single foreign entity consisting either of agents of the Chinese state or proxies thereof,” the report says.

Whereas Chris Johnson’s speed has lent him an absurd amount of success. (Also: Jamaal Charles, while we’re talking about Best-size burners.)

Chris John and MJD are both fast, but both also bigger than Best. I’m not sure how much more bulk Best can really hold on that frame. He’ll be more like Reggie Bush than Johnson or MJD.

How much smaller is Best than either of these two players? All of one inch and five pounds according to ESPN.

I don’t know anything about Jamaal Charles, I was talking about MJD.
In terms of Chris Johnson – I dunno, I just think he looks bigger than Best. Simple numbers don’t tell you anything about how a person is built, or where their weight is distributed. I will admit, I am not using an empirical standard, so that seriously impairs my argument. It could be that Chris Johnson simply has stronger legs – the way he pushes piles is something I just can’t see Jahvid doing at the NFL level.
Speaking of Reggie Bush(as I was earlier), by the way: ummm, WTF??

When the hell did Reggie grow those freakish arms? Good lord! He impressed the hell out of me today, though – he was getting yards up the middle and pushing people around like I’d never thought I’d see him do. Did it look like he lost a little speed? I’m not sure.
Question: Do you see Jahvid putting on that much weight? Can his frame handle it?
CGB: Wasting Your Potential, Your Time, & Your Life Since 2006.
(I am on record as not giving a fuck about steroids but damn Reggie what the hell man.)
As for Best, Johnson, and other running backs particular anatomies, I’ve got nothing. Eyeballing two running backs trying to figure out which one of them is whatever seems like a guaranteed trip to Confirmation Bias City and that just doesn’t interest me. As for whether Best can add weight, I am again agnostic because seriously what the fuck do I know.
I guess what I really dislike is people writing off Best’s speed like it isn’t even an asset, as though everyone in the NFL runs like a goddamn gazelle. Regardless of whether he’ll be successful or not, Jahvid Best has speed nearly every running back in the league would kill for.

Yeah, I don’t know if there was ever a DeSean vs. Marshawn debate, but there’s little doubt who’s been more successful so far. Still, I don’t know if that one data point is enough to tip the argument in Best’s favor just yet.

Chris. Johnson. Might have heard of the guy, 2,000 yards? Single season yards-from-scrimmage record? Kind of a big deal?
I mean, not saying Best = Johnson, but acting like there’s no place in the NFL for anything but cloud-of-dust runners is silly.

I’m not saying it doesn’t happen, but the NFL game favors power runners more than speedsters at the running back position.
There are always the Chris Johnsons and the Brian Westbrooks… But Adrian Peterson, Cedric Benson, Steven Jackson… they all rely a lot on their power.

With the way things have recently be run he probably would have gotten 5 touches a game and done nothing.
Well… actually we took a look at that on Conquest Chronicles and as much as anything it’s consistency that seems to be the issue. It took three seasons for Bush and White to get to the point where they could post 3000 rushing yards between them in a season. Some consistency would have helped since then, but time on the field really seems to matter the most.
I read that, but that’s not what I understood then. Watching U$C 2004-05, I don’t remember being as impressed by LenDale & Bush as much as I was impressed by your line play, that’s what I was (not) thinking re: Best.
Am I known as Cugel the Clever for nothing?
I am somewhat confused about how Toby had another year – he played in four different seasons. I guess they could have retroactively redshirted him for the 2007 season when he was injured in the first game. But Stanford considered this to be his “Senior” year not his “Redshirt Junior” year.
Anyone have any idea if Toby still would have had to petition the NCAA for another year, or do they just give everyone a fifth year if they have been injured and never redshirted?

How Wall Street Could Help Haiti and Partially Redeem those Bonuses
I have an idea. Remember that public TARP money that we loaned to the major Wall Street finance firms? They didn’t actually use it to make small business loans as we had intended.
And what bonuses. “It’s reported that Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley and JPMorgan Chase combined have set aside $47 billion for bonuses,” NPR says.
$47 billion in bonuses.
Haiti’s annual gross domestic product in nominal terms is about $7 bn. a year.
So here is a modest proposal. Since public monies clearly were the basis for a lot of the “profits” the banks and finance houses made in 2009, why don’t the executives show at least a little common decency and donate some significant percentage of it (half?) to worthy causes in the US and abroad. Why not 10 percent to Haiti reconstruction and development? That would be $4.7 bn., and it would go a very long way in Haiti.
Point 1: Wall Street firms are not the only entities that benefit from government money. Auto makers? Corn farmers?
Point 2: The firms he pointed out have repaid their friggin’ TARP funds. They can do what they want with their profits
Point 3: The aforementioned firms have donated a substantial amount and will match donations from employees who donate.
Point 4: Bonuses are so misunderstood, it’s ridiculous. For starters, they are taxed at 50%. Second, for a lot of employees, these “bonuses” function in the same way that “tips” function for waiters — it’s what makes their salary. An associate will earn $50K base and $50K bonus, instead of earning $100K straight. Sure, there are probably executives who earn large bonuses, but a lot of those people are responsible for the profits that are being used to pay those bonuses (note: TARP funds do not pay bonuses)…
All around, just an article to rile people up, but come on, I thought people were better than this.
7
US economy probably would have gone into a deeper recession.
But they’re loans. I don’t understand the outrage now.
7
At the risk of provoking you and since1997, here’s how most people see the distribution of TARP funds:
- Banks and investment firms buy the most favorable oversight regimes they can get out of Congress
- Banks and investment firms develop various exotic investment packages / methods / whatever, most of which rely on a lack of transparency to remain attractive
- This creates an opportunity for the mortgage / housing bubble
- Everything goes kablooey
- The bankers insist they need cash to deal with liquidity crises etc.
- The bankers get cash
- The bankers get all petulant about being asked to account for the TARP funds
- Once the worst of the crisis is over, the banks give the TARP funds back
- The bankers can’t understand why their enormous bonuses (at an executive level), based on company survival at least partially funded by John Q Public, many of whom are hurting as a result of the burst financial bubble, might cause outrage.
If you can’t see why people are pissed about this “let them eat cake” attitude, you are truly obtuse.

I understand that “people” see it that way, but you know yourself that isn’t right. It’s not as if the banks are solely to blame for this.
And the government gives loans to companies all the time. I don’t understand why all the outrage is directed at financial institutions, who actually used their loans properly (well, the aforementioned ones did), while GM gets a pass.
Furthermore, as I mentioned prior “bonuses” aren’t reserved for executives; everyone gets them and, in some cases, they need them.
Finally, even you have to recognise the absurdity of the point the original article was making.

Because GM isn’t a bunch of rentier pirates and GM fell foul of health care costs and good old fashioned incompetence? No-one likes being taken to the cleaners by a bunch of amoral smarty-pants.
So screwing things up by incompetence is okay? But screwing up, then fixing it is bad?
Let me try that again, without going all HP on you.
So is the issue here really that people feel Wall St firms are conning the public?
7
“you know yourself that isn’t right”
I’m not sure I know that at all.
And the government gives loans to companies all the time. I don’t understand why all the outrage is directed at financial institutions, who actually used their loans properly (well, the aforementioned ones did)
This wasn’t a case of “I’ll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today,” this was a pretty desperate effort to keep the economy from collapsing, since no-one could tell what the true extent of the liabilities of these investment banks were – thanks to the investment banks.
while GM gets a pass
GM got taken over, management was fired, car lines shut down, and re-packaged for sale. That’s not a pass, that’s what happens when you matter as an employer but don’t have the wherewithal to wreck the national economy.
"bonuses" aren’t reserved for executives; everyone gets them and, in some cases, they need them.
And what proportion of that $47 billion went to say junior analysts and people making $100k a year total? If they didn’t understand the risks involved, why did they take the jobs?
even you have to recognise the absurdity of the point the original article was making
I don’t care to try and use guilt for making the hyper-rich donate their bonuses. But that doesn’t mean that they couldn’t benefit from some sort of symbolic gesture.
This wasn’t a case of "I’ll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today," this was a pretty desperate effort to keep the economy from collapsing, since no-one could tell what the true extent of the liabilities of these investment banks were – thanks to the investment banks.
Sure, it was a screwed up situation, but are the banks the only ones to blame for this? Yes, it was a bailout. Everyone knows this. But once the funds are repaid, should the government get involved in their bonus situations?
GM got taken over, management was fired, car lines shut down, and re-packaged for sale. That’s not a pass, that’s what happens when you matter as an employer but don’t have the wherewithal to wreck the national economy.
Public opinion
And what proportion of that $47 billion went to say junior analysts and people making $100k a year total? If they didn’t understand the risks involved, why did they take the jobs?
And when the company does well, is not in debt to the government, and the employee, junior analyst like myself, or corporate bigwig, contributes towards general firm profitability, why should they not get a bonus?
I don’t care to try and use guilt for making the hyper-rich donate their bonuses. But that doesn’t mean that they couldn’t benefit from some sort of symbolic gesture.
And, as mentioned, those firms are donating money and matching employee donations. Let’s look at the final numbers after and then tell me they’re not doing things right.
7
Public opinion
What was that gnomic utterance supposed to mean?
And when the company does well, is not in debt to the government, and the employee, junior analyst like myself, or corporate bigwig, contributes towards general firm profitability, why should they not get a bonus?
Because you can’t prove that they would have a job far less a bonus without the federal money. Mind you, the appopriate response so far as I am concerned would be a propery regulatory regime, which would hurt more than public disapproval.
So because they profitted from a loan…. they can’t give out bonuses to their employees when they record profits?
I don’t understand.
7
THEIR. JOBS. WERE. SAVED. WITH. PUBLIC. MONEY. AND. THERE. WOULD. HAVE. BEEN. NO. PROFITS. WITHOUT. THE. PUBLIC. MONEY.
Bonuses are theoretically for top performance. I don’t count failing to go under with public money as top performance.
Put another way, the cost of public money is exercising some political wisdom. There has been no effort to pay that cost.
Look, it’s not as if this is some AIG situation.
If the companies, after horrible quarters, are posting big profits, should those people not be rewarded? What incentive do they have to even help maintain profitability then?
7
It works for me. The company that I’ve been working for over the last 3 years has been doing a lot of restructuring and my reward for a job well done is not getting laid off, and perhaps a very small raise.
And, as mentioned, a lot of us get much lower base salaries, which are compensated for by bonuses, but don’t let that stop you.
7
You took the job knowing there was a risk of not getting a bonus. Or did they tell you that was a formality and there would always be bonuses?
I don’t know what to say. A bonus is by definition not guaranteed income. I’d have gone in assuming that at some point said bonus wouldn’t materialize…. but then the only people I believe when it comes to compensation are the people who actually work there or better yet who left. That’s why I knew to go as high as I could at the current place because raises are minimal and why I wasn’t surprised when they stopped the 401K match.

Well, not to be a Wall Street Basher (just a Rishi basher) here are some counterpoints
1. True Wall street firms were not the only ones to get money, however the “They did it too defense,” stopped working in what, second grade? Just because other people should perhaps ALSO show some decency doesn’t let big firms off the hook.
2. Sure the firms repaid the TARP funds. There are many reasons they did this and “out of the kindness of their hearts” and their “sense of fair play” are not among them. The reason that they are even around to pay the funds back is because they got the loans in the first place so to say that they bear no obligation to the Federal Govenment or society in general for getting bailed out beyond paying back the money is an arugable point at best.
3. I’ll believe this is True. Nothing to argue against here.
4. I get a bonus and pay a huge portion of it in taxes so I know this is true from personal experience. However a lot of people get bonuses regardless of whether they increase the profitability of a company or not. And I think these are why the majority of people get irked.
I do not hate people who make more money than I do. I purposely chose what I do and if I wanted to make as much money as I could I would have chosen something else. But is sounds like you’re saying “Hey guys, come on, we paid the money back so we’re good right?” That seems a little callous. Not that I think you did say that or that I think you personally caused the housing meltdown (cause it would be really incredible if only one person were completely responsible.) But I am saying that there are legitimate reasons for mistrust. A lot of the demagoguery against Wall St. is silly and I won’t subscribe to it but still, there are some valid reasons to be upset aren’t there?
1. My point is more along with “why single out Wall St firms?”
2. It was a loan and they repaid it. Of course, they have societal duties, but to act like employees should never get bonuses because the government lent them money at some point is ludicrous
3. So, even if tax reasons are a driving force, aren’t the Wall St firms doing the right thing here?
4. Sure, but the bonuses account for their actual “salary”. And, realistically, an executive wouldn’t even have a job if he didn’t contribute to the company at that point, much less getting huge bonuses. I suppose my issue is with the demonization of Wall Street firms in general.
7
BTW
I read the article and think this guy’s sentiment is better than his solution. I don’t think that we should make people do whatever we want just because we don’t like what they did. Haiti eathrquake today but, what would we require them to “donate” to tomorrow? Forced donations in this case would merely be a poilte form of extortion.
Oh and of course we are not better than this. demagoguery has been around for a long time and will continue to be around so long as people are willing to believe that complex problems always have simple solutions.

i don’t want to go on a second date in that it makes things so formal. it’s more like we met, we’re cool, lets get to know each other as friends and hang before we decide to be together. that’s always been my approach.
Umm. I think you’re stuck; sounds to me like you really want the date (and the guy) but don’t want risk showing much emotion “and keep it casual”.
Risk looking desperate and ask him out, say I
Am I known as Cugel the Clever for nothing?
Dating is such a crock. Why the hell can’t people be straightforward anymore instead of playing games ane sending signals and all that nonsense?
7
woah
so he’s just not that into you IS right. if i act like my normal self, i’ll come off looking desperate. thanks for the legit guy insight.
Asking a dude out isn’t being desperate, it’s being yourself. That’s the best approach, always.
Today's the day the teddy bears have their picnic.
Except I don’t think I’m asking him out which is the problem. My point was all guys I date need to be friend zone first. Be able to hang with my crew, etc.
Srs question
What if, upon this happening, he likes you, but doesn’t want to just be friends with you, abandons Project Since1997, and pursues other girls?
7
Realistically, how many marriages have you been to where the couple met through a mutual friend or at a party?
