Joe Shipp Vs Josh Shipp Vs Jerren Shipp
There was an interesting question brought forth tonight in regards to who was the better player Joe Shipp or Josh Shipp. I guess to be nice I decided to add one more Shipp to the table so to speak in Jerren.
Jerren unfortunately didn't find a role at Arizona State and therefore his numbers were less than stellar as a Sun Devil. The only notable year for Jerren was his freshman year when he averaged 7.6 points per game, 3.3 rebounds, 1.5 assists per game, on just 39.4 percent shooting, 33.6 percent from three, and 61.7 percent from the free throw line. During the year he averaged 30 minutes per game.
His sophomore campaign was the second best season for him when he average 5.9 points per game, 3.3 rebounds per game, .9 assists per game, on 43.4 percent shooting, 35.2 percent from three, and 81.7 percent from the free throw line. During his sophomore campaign he averaged 26.3 minutes per contest.
For Jerren though he became a bench player in his junior and now his senior season so far. He's only averaging about 13 minutes per game over the past one plus seasons. Therefore his numbers have significantly declined, although it's hard to say they declined drastically when in his sophomore year he averaged only six points per game.
Now it's onto Josh Shipp and what he did in his four year career at UCLA. In his freshman year he averaged 9.3 points per game, 5.2 rebounds, 1.8 assists, on 46.1 percent shooting, 28.1 percent from beyond the arc, and 61.4 percent from the free throw line.
Sophomore year Josh's scoring improved while other numbers declined so he went to 11.3 points per game, 4.8 rebounds per game, 1 assist, on 41 percent shooting, 46.2 percent from the three, and 87.5 percent from the free throw line, but he only played in four games due to an injury he suffered.
Junior year much like his sophomore year some numbers went up where other numbers declined. Josh went to 13.3 points per game, 3.9 rebounds per game, 2.6 assists per game, on 46.9 percent shooting, 31.6 percent from three, and 78.2 percent from the free throw line.
Senior season again you will find some numbers went up and others went down. Josh averaged 12.2 points per game, 3.2 rebounds per game, 2.1 assists per game, on 43.4 percent shooting, 32.4 percent from three, and 77 percent from the free throw line.
Shipp played in parts of five seasons for UCLA thanks to a medical redshirt so he compiled stats in all five years he played at UCLA. His final season was much of the same as the rest. Numbers that went up and numbers that went down.
For his final year at UCLA he averaged 14.5 points per game, 3.1 rebounds per game, 1.5 assists per game, on 50.4 percent shooting, 43.3 percent from three, and 80.2 percent from the free throw line.
As for Joe his freshman year he averaged 9.1 points per game, 2.9 rebounds, .9 assists per game, on 46.4 percent shooting, 33.1 percent from three, and 76.8 percent from the free throw line.
Sophomore year actuality was too spectacular for him he averaged only 8.4 points per game, 2.8 rebounds per game, 1.2 assists per game, on 44 percent shooting, 31.5 percent from three, and 70 percent from the free throw line.
Junior year though Shipp began to take off as an effective scorer he averaged 14.8 points per game, 4.7 rebounds per game, 1.7 assists per game, on 48.6 percent shooting, 35.2 percent from beyond the arc, and 78.1 percent from the free throw line.
Senior season is where it all came together for Joe he averaged 20.2 points per game, 6.1 rebounds per game, 2.3 assists per game, on 50.2 percent shooting, 35.4 percent from three, and 75.9 percent from the free throw line.
It's not really hard to compare who was the better player from the Shipp family. Specifically after the junior and senior seasons by Joe. Josh had some decent numbers, but none were as impressive as the senior season of Joe.
Also, Joe was better known as a scorer because he could do so in a variety of ways. He could drive to the hoop, he could shoot threes, and he could post up. Josh was only really known for his ability to shoot and it shows why he never became as good of a scorer as Joe.
Winner overall: Joe

I guess having thought about it and read the stats, I agree = Joe. But I always thought Josh had more quickness and wiggle-ability than Joe and have to say your comment about Josh being known for his ability to shoot… he went thru a horrible slump shooting his senior year. Joe was more outside pure shooter and Josh more slasher. Joe could use his body pretty darn well down low, however.
I bet Josh could outleap Joe.
Someone mentioned a 4th bro is committed to OSU. Interesting.
I guess in the end
It’s consistency and getting it all together. Joe did that and Josh well he was consistent at getting near 10-12 points per night, whereas Joe jumped from nearly double digit, to nearly 15 point scorer, to 20 point scorer.
I would give the edge to Joe just because he was able to put it all together. I remember his senior season he was either draining threes or he was in the post punishing smaller players.
If I remember correctly, Joe was the most built of all of them, and better able to post up or power his way to the hoop. So you might expect less explosiveness (quickness/jumping)…but he easily made up for that with his strength. A little like Tony Gonzalez as a basketball player, in style at least. Both had that PF build but not the height you really want in a PF….

According to what I looked at...
Both Josh and Joe are 6’5 220, Jerren is shorter at 6’3 and is 210 pounds. But, if you looked at each one Joe is definitely got the most meat on his bones then his other brothers.
ConcordTom, when I wrote that Reginald Von Shipp had made a soft verbal to OSU, that was, is, and will always be a joke. There is no Reginald Von Shipp.

Reginald didn't fit anyways
It would have to be a name that started with J like Javon or something like that.
Joe
On account of he obviously had the most intelligence, sense, and taste of the three.

This is really no contest. As a Dodger fan, I gotta say it’s nice to finally have had the best brother for a change on a team I root for.
I have no opinion on the topic itself but... this is the first decent/good Rocky fanpost
In other words, Go Bears!
It’s difficult to compare them when they played against different competition and on different teams (with totally different philosophies, coaches, and supporting talent). Nonetheless, the impression from the eye-test is that Joe is better overall, but Josh is a little more skilled and might have surpassed Joe if not for double hip surgery.
Flagged for posting something that places Josh Shipp in anything but an entirely non-negative light.

I just realized this doesn’t make sense. Basically, don’t say anything even remotely nice about him. Unless it is a vicious backhand.

First you get angry at Rocky for being negative and annoying. Rocky finally writes something rational and you want him to go back to writing bile? WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS TO US???
