Haiti Earthquake (And How You Can Help)
via media.nj.com
This isn't relevant to football, nor did I necessarily put most of these links in together, but the Haiti situation is pretty grave. 5% of the population is believed to have been wiped out, a lot of people are hurting, and the people of the country haven't been able to get a break for most of the country's history.

Thanks for the info
My heart goes out to all the victims.
If I might, I am going to put in a personal plea in for doctorswithoutborders – one of my best friends from Cal is a former employee and works in the ngo field and she has nothing but praise for MSF/DWB and how much of the money eventually gets to where it is needed.
Thanks, putting in a donation for them. Deciding to donate seems like it’s the easy part, figuring out who to donate to is a lot harder b/c of the crazy world we live in.
Admin/Mods/OP: Can someone fix the hyperlinks to the websites or organize them a bit. For a community that’s pretty high tech with all our sports vids and multimedia, we should be able to manipulate a bit of html or whatever to organize those links (the hyperlinks are a bit organized).
Good sign
I currently cannot donate because the sites are experiencing too much traffic. I’m glad to see people are donating, even in a relatively down economy.

Just had the same result.
Looked at the site earlier, it was fine. Got a chance to try to donate, too much traffic.
An easy way to donate is through texting
Text “Yele” to 501501 to donate $5 to disaster relief (this is Wyclef Jean’s Charity doing earthquake relief). Phone bill will be charged.
Text "Haiti: to 90999 to donate $10 to the American Red Cross – this will also bill directly to your bill.
For each text you will get a confirmation text asking you to reply yes to confirm donation. You will then get a confirmation of your donation. These are legit sites and are up on each web site if you want the peace of mind that this isn’t a fraud.
It took a few hours to get confirmation but eventually the donations went through when i did it. Easy, quick, and no credit card info involved.

I did the Haiti text and a Mercy Corps donation. Got a few co-workers to text for Red Cross as well.
Beavers are also raising funds to support former Beaver running back Yvenson Bernard’s relief efforts in his native Haiti.

My job is involved in disaster response, and I get automated e-mails from the USGS whenever there’s an earthquake anywhere in the world stronger than magnitude 5.0. Near the end of work last Tuesday, my screen flashed: “new-e-mail: (Mw 7.0) HAITI REGION.” I clicked on the e-mail with fingers crossed, hoping that the quake would be miles out to sea. My heart sank as I read: “16 km (10 miles) SW (227 degrees) of PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti.”
Having been exposed to some Haitian history at Berkeley I knew this meant that thousands would probably die. It’s a disturbing feeling to get an automated e-mail matter-of-factly informing you of a horrible natural disaster – little did I know that my initial guesstimates were much too optimistic and that the scale of the damage would dwarf my fears as I read the e-mail.
Thanks for the links, Shadwhand.

If you decide to donate
I highly advise to check internally (at your company). It seems a lot of firms are matching donations (meaning a $20 donation magically turns into a $40 donation). Also, if you can get a tax write-off for your donation, that means you can afford to donate more.
