DBD 1.13.10 The '89 Series Win is Clean!!

Yesterday, Mark "Big Mac" McGwire came clean.  Steroids.  He used 'em.  As a longtime McGwire fan, it was tough for me to hear, but 'fessing up was what he had to do, for himself and for the Cardinals.  Though all the details were difficult to bear, one little tidbit brought joy to my heart: McGwire started juicing during the '89-'90 offseason.  The offseason - that is to say, after the A's had alreaqdy won the World Series.  I was so happy - the '89 World Series victory was clean!!  Well... okay, clean for McGwire's part, which is a huge relief to me.  I'm sure Canseco was juicing, but that dude is a douchebag and a freak, so whatevs.  The point is, McGwire was clean for the '89 Series.  If you happen to disagree, I WILL FIGHT YOU.

Discussion topic for the DBD:  Whose side are you on, Conan's or Jay's?  This s*** has me puzzled.  I have no idea how NBC just manages to continually screw itself up - that network must be run by monkeys with brains on which CBKWit has already feasted.

For Conan's part, I don't think he ever got a fair shake.  You give him the Tonight Show, great.  But then you automatically screw him over by putting Jay at 10pm??  Many of the Jay fans who watched the Tonight Show will just watch him at 10 and go to bed earlier!!  You're killing Conan's audience!  They didn't do that to Jay Leno - when he started, he got a fair shot, with no other detractions/distractions.  Also, NBC gives Conan five months and they're already harping on him about ratings???  Jay Leno had years to build up a fan base before NBC started worrying about his ratings - because they supported him.  And I think that's what a big problem is - NBC is trying to support TWO big acts, and that was just a horrible decision. Not only are they getting on him, they tell him he's getting moved to midnight??  NBC is gonna mess with 60 years of Tonight Show tradition, again screwing Conan in the process?  Ridiculous.

For Jay's part - he wasn't ready to leave the Tonight Show, and that's totally understandable.  He loved his job, he was #1 in the ratings for over a decade - why would he want to leave?  So it looks like NBC forced him out.  Why - were they worried about Conan jumping ship?  Did they think Jay was washed up?  If ratings are what truly matters, why did they rock the boat back in 2004, when they announced Conan as the future host?  Makes no sense - seems like Jay got screwed.  So come 2009, NBC shows themselves to be spineless by giving Jay a show at 10pm.  Look, if you're gonna dump Jay, dump him - let him go somewhere else!  But Jay seems like he's on board and loyal to NBC (you know he could go somewhere else for more money!) so he goes to 10pm.  Ratings are low, but better than expected.  What does Jay get for his positive ratings?  Cancellation.  Jay gets screwed.  Again.

So NBC messed up their lineup, affiliates go monkey-poop, NBC caves.  Again, s-p-i-n-e-l-e-s-s.  So they come up with the most cockamamie fix EVAIR:  Jay gets screwed again by getting moved, and getting his show cut in half.  Conan gets royally boned because he gets bumped to midnight for no good reason, plus Jay takes his late-night comedy audience.  Did NBC even think this through at all??  They've managed to alienate BOTH of their stars and come out looking like the bad guy, all at the same time.  Ridiculous.

Edit: Clearly I did not read yesterday's DBD.  Well, openly discuss further or just take it as my daily rant, commenting as you see fit.
