Bowl Game Blowout! Open Thread for BCS Games on 1/1/10
The Rose Bowl Game Presented by Citi

Most Awesome Player: Jeremiah Masoli, Oregon QB (168/285 for 2,066 yards, 15 touchdowns and 5 interceptions; 115 rushes for 659 yards and 12 touchdowns). You could also make a case for a number of other players as well though, including LaMichael James and maybe Terrelle Pryor. Maybe.
Most Awesome Sponsor: Citi? I can't find any other sponsors.
The Line: Oregon -3.5
Over/Under: 51
Chad Millman's blog says: Will Oregon's offense outlast Ohio State's defense? Certainly the money is coming n on Oregon as well. The public would much rather have a team that can put points on the board, rather than a good defense. It's a relatively high total, especially for Ohio State, which had totals about 10 points lower all season. If Oregon gets a lead, Tressel will have to open it up. At 51 all the money is over. This is one of the games with the most interest, probably in the top five of getting the most attention.
Accuscore says: Oregon 26.4, Ohio State 21.7
ESPN says: Oregon 31, Ohio State 20
Who you should be rooting for: Let's go CGB North!
The Allstate Sugar Bowl

Most Awesome Player: Yeah, you know, I don't think there's any way you can't give this to Tim Tebow, Florida QB (182/279 for 2,413 yards, 18 touchdowns, 5 interceptions; 203 rushes for 859 yards and 13 touchdowns)
Most Awesome Sponsor: Man, what is the deal? Do BCS games only have one sponsor? There's nothing on their website. Allstate, by default.
Over/Under: 57
Chad Millman's blog says: Cincy is the Cinderella here and it would have been difficult to make them less than a double-digit underdog. Who will be more prepared -- an Urban Meyer team or a team that hasn't had a head coach that was with them all season? That's a huge factor.

Who are we suppose to root for? I really don’t want to root for Oregon, but I guess I have to because they play in the Pac-10.

End read for Oregon offense
Doesn’t it seem like it would be easy to defeat the Oregon offense. It’s based on Masoli reading the DE, right? If the end goes in, he holds – if he goes out, he hands off. Why doesn’t the end just hold to see the play every time. They will throw more, but the pay off seems worth it.
This is starting to remind me of the last time CGB had a big open thread for an Oregon out of conference game…

True, I just see parallels. A big OOC game where most Cal fans were rooting for Oregon and expecting a big win, and then Oregon craps the bed while we laugh. Hopefully the Ducks can turn it around. Their offense can heat up quicker than just about any offense in the country.

1. Effective defensive and offensive adjustments. (I think!)
2. I think this is a major credit to coaches. My sense this is the most important area where Cal needs to improve. It was particularly a problem this year.

My only good experience with U$C was in 2004.
After that game I was outside the bus (in my Cal Band uniform) and some older Trojan fans came up to us and said stuff like “great game” and “you guys should have won—we didn’t deserve that”. Very classy.

white helmets
if i’ve learned one thing from this bowl season (i’m looking at you, arizona, oregon, and cincinnati), it’s that you don’t want to break out the uncharacteristically white helmets for your bowl game.
did anyone hear what billick just said about tebow.
he said you gotta make sure you dont miss on a first round pick especially if its a qb or your gonna end up on fox calling college football bowl games… direct reference to Boller haha
