Golden Nuggets: All Part of the Plan...
Pete Carroll is as surprised that Cal lost like that as we are. In fact, the LATimes says he's a bit confused about how to plan for Cal. Does this mean the Autzen Massacre was merely a front to confuse the Trojans into playing poorly and losing Saturday? We will see...
"It was so far out of character and out of line with that they'd done up until this point," Carroll said Sunday.
..."They looked great on film, throwing it well, running it well, playing good defense," Carroll said of the pre-Oregon Golden Bears. "And all of a sudden: 42-3. It's kind of hard to figure that one out to tell you the truth. I'm sure they're thinking the same thing."
After the jump Tedford, Gregory, and their players respond to the loss, Wilner (half-jokingly, or maybe not) prepares to hop on the Stanford Rose Bowl bandwagon, and more.
- Tedford recognizes that every opponent is going to stack the box on Cal. They just have to figure out how to get the passing game going to open up the running lanes for Best. Farudo has quotes from Tedford after Sunday's film session. It's a good read to get a sense of how the Bears are feeling now. JO has quotes from Tedford, Tucker, Riley, Best, Tepper, Mohamed, and Gregory.

From the JO article, Mike Mohamed
On Oregon’s efficiency in the passing game:
They definitely threw the ball a lot more, and they threw it pretty well. That was a big surprise for us. We didn’t anticipate that up until that point. They really hadn’tt thrown the ball at all. That kind of shocked us and we had a hard time adjusting.
On Oregon tight end Ed Dickson:
They really got the tight end into it and we really had a hard time accounting for him. That got us in trouble.
I always thought Tedford was good at making those halftime adjustments; maybe the adjustment of accounting for Masoli acting like a QB was too much to do at halftime?
Wow, having read all of Wilner’s stuff over the years I thought he was unusually gentle. I expected a scathing report, but he was really easy on us and made some good points along the way. Unlike Imman (sp) who basically thinks we should all shut up and just expect to lose. I still can’t believe he went after Best for making the RB comment. The guy is a freaking kid who just watched his Heisman chances go down the drain. He was clearly trying to be a leader and voice that all was not necessarily lost. Leave him the fuck alone you sleaze bag! Fuck that guy!

I’ve always thought Wilner was a fairly rational guy, despite what a lot of Cal fans have thought about him. He presents a pretty respectable viewpoint on what outsiders probably think about the Golden Bears without being mean-spirited.

Yeah. Wilner takes a lot of shit for negative press about Cal, but he’s nowhere near as stupid as Ratto. His statements can be outlandish but he backs them up with numbers and sense, not BS.
