Oregon up on Utah

Punt return for a touchdown after Utah was stopped on its opening possession…

Oregon is going to be a major challenge.

The Ducks’ uniforms are ugly, as usual, but in a different way – with grayish pants.

Fortunately, our coaches tend to do a really nice job scheme-wise prepping for Oregon. I think we’re better in the trenches on both sides. I just hope the oline/dline advantage is enough to overcome our huge weakness on special teams.

IMHO

We’re not an established enough program to be in for the National Championship. The rose bowl is def our ceiling. We don’t have “conference championship” games or a tough enough schedule the last 2-3 weeks. Even if we run the O, USC, and UCLA table, it will be forgotten by the time final ballots are in to choose who plays in the NC game. We played when Barkley was hurt, O didn’t have their star running back, etc. . .

We kill it this year, next year we’ll be set up for the run because we’ll have “earned” the right to be considered for it next year.

For WilltheThrill, this is Jon Miller saying goodnight. . . .

The #1 greatest threat to America: BEARS

by norcalnick on Sep 19, 2009 4:23 PM PDT up reply actions

Testudo Times:

The start of the game was encouraging – MTSU garnered only 46 yards in the first quarter, and Maryland took a 7 point lead off a 48 yard Da’Rel Scott TD scamper into the second quarter. And that’s when everything went wrong.

The next two quarters saw only two Maryland touchdowns, but four Maryland turnovers, plus a blocked FG. MTSU, on the other hand, put up 23 points in those quarters, and took a two point lead into the final stanza. Maryland would respond with ten points in the fourth quarter, seven from a 63 yard Torrey Smith touchdown pass and three from the foot of Nick Ferrara on a clutch 43 yard FG.

Unfortunately, it wouldn’t be enough: MTSU scored off of a 40 yard TD pass and a send a 20 yard field goal through the uprights as the clock struck zero, marking the second time in as many seasons Middle Tennessee State upset Maryland.

Stats to consider: Pac-10 QB play

Jeremiah Masoli: 4 for 16, 95 yards, 0 TDs, 1 INT
Aaron Corp: 13-22, 110 yards, 0 TDs, 1 INT
3 Arizona QBs collectively: 10-26, 105 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT

For the sake of being complete

21-35 for 237 yards, 0 TDs and INTs for Locker, which is probably the best Pac-10 QB performance on the day, although in the same range as Riley’s day.

Oregon has two problems: 1) Masoli can’t hit the broad side of a barn with a football. 2) Their O-line is very inconsistent and mistake-prone. Add these up and Oregon has a decent, but inconsistent offense. Their D is okay, though. I thought their secondary would get torched by Cain, but he was terrible today.
