Print...for highlighting what a truly awesome place CGB has turned out to be. Thanks Avinash, CBKWit, Hydro, Rags, Twist, Fever, Berkelium, Danzig, and everyone else for making this a great place for an open, fun, lighthearted, argument-filled, hilarious way to discuss Cal sports. It makes the workdays go quickly, makes me question my assumptions about football and I have learned more about the game from CGB than I could read in any other source.
I'm glad you all value free speech and contrasting viewpoints as much as you do, because we've all seen what the opposite is like. Thank fuck I chose Cal.

Agreed
I’ve really enjoyed spending time on CGB and contributing what I can. Seeing BN and other similar “serious” blogs and forums really highlights the difference in attitude; sports are meant to be fun and enjoyable for the fans. While serious facts and analysis have their place, ultimately, you want to have fun when you’re discussing your favorite team with fellow fans, and I feel like CGB is a great place for that.

In Wednesday’s DBD Bruin Nation’s extreme over-reaction to the LA Time’s photo choices was discussed. In today’s DBD a fanpost on Bruin Nation praising Nestor and full of the most delicious irony and self delusion was discussed.
Just another normal two days, really.

a poster called “bruintarheel” said some very mild things about expecting a win and not expecting much of a dropoff against Kansas State. He was then berated by Nestor for “talking smack” and “taking an opponent lightly.” He was then asked about his handle, and made a very reasonable explanation (went to UCLA for undergrad, UNC for post-grad) and proceeded to talk about what he saw of some of the similarities between the schools. He said that both schools were “basketball first, football second” oriented and had had some history of success in both sports. BN posters (mostly Nestor) then proceeded to berate him for saying that UCLA doesn’t care about football, and were outraged that he would EVER compare the success of UNC football to that of UCLA. Basically, it was a ridiculously self-righteous overreaction to a very reasonable sounding poster.

This is pretty obvious by the fact that we have so many guys from other team blogs routinely come here to leave comments – even if some of them are pretty useless. (But then again, if CGB banned all the useless commenters the only one who could play in our sandbox would be Leon Powe).
Of course, the nice thing is also that so many of us can go to other team blogs (ATQ, Coug Center, BtD, and even CC) and do the same.
I know there’s a point here, but I can’t remember it. Oh well. I guess I’m banned.

/b/ is from 4chan, which is sort of the lowest level of hell. Its a very popular message board, which is almost completey unregulated. A lot of the memes which you see floating around the internet come from there. For example, I Can Haz Cheeseburgers thing came from there.
But due to its laizzez-faire views on moderation, it has a lot of readers make jokes that might make people blush. Yknow, like Rihanna-Chris Brown stuff or Michael Jackson death stuff. So, when people say it’s like /b/, they are generally talking about the hilariousness that takes place in the DBD.
To be fair, I do not think we are ANYWHERE near as bad as /b/ when it comes to off-color jokes.

In my opinion, saying ANYTHING positive about UCLA basketball should be the 2nd worst offense on this blog. The worst is posting a picture or video of the 2007 season after the Oregon game.

Because I will do those things (actually, no fucking way I will ever say anything nice about UCLA basketball, unless it is something like: Hey, Drew Gordon is looking like less of an idiot this game. he’s arguably the best coach in the NCAA. it’s just funny how they spin everything into a slight towards ‘CBH’ and the ‘Ben Ball Warriors’.
Totally agree. I love (hate) how they sincerely use the term “True Bruin” all the time. Which, if you guys aren’t familiar, is some stupid crap they put in the propaganda you get at orientation. Most Bruins will use it in a sarcastic manner, the BN guys actually use it as a holier-than-thou badge of honor.
I am a horrible bruin-bear crossbreed.
So Rags is the dolphin man, Avi is the guy at the front of the dock, Fever is just behind Avi, Twist is running away, Hydro is that shady object that looks like a water cooler to the right of the dock, and CBKWit is in a pair of cement shoes just in front of the dock. Did I miss anyone?
