The CGB Preseason Top-25 Results!
- Florida (26)
- Oklahoma (1)
- Southern California (1)
- Alabama
- Texas
- Ohio State
- Penn State
- Virginia Tech
- California (4)
- LSU
- Mississippi
- Oklahoma State
- Georgia
- Oregon
- Georgia Tech
- Boise State
- TCU
- Utah
- Florida State
- North Carolina
- Iowa
- Oregon State
- Nebraska
- Brigham Young
- Notre Dame
Others receiving votes:
Texas Tech, Michigan State, Kansas, Wake Forest, Miami (Fla.), Cincinnati, Arizona, Illinois, Missouri, West Virginia, North Carolina State, Tennessee, UCLA, Pittsburgh, Houston, Syracuse, Arizona State
Does it really surprise anyone that Cal received 4 #1 votes? No, I didn't think so. And I find it funny to see that Texas has seen the biggest drop from what the coaches poll and AP Poll put it as (#2). This clearly shows a Pro-Cal bias. But other than that I'm stunned at Notre Dame at #25. Sure it's not #23 as the coaches put them, but based on all the comments in the DBDs I thought ND would've dropped out. Guess not. Interesting to see that UCLA, Tennessee and Syracuse (!) got votes. WTF at Syracuse. I blame Missing Barry. Seeing as this is just the pre-season there's not much more to make of this.
The Biggest Homer Award goes to...
... CruzinBears, CaliforniaCMB, Missing Barry, and omnizzle, all of whom voted for Cal as #1!
This award was presented to the user(s) who loved Cal the most out of everyone who voted this week
A surprisingly low amount. I was thinking that it would be more users, but guess not.
The OMG Cal Sux Award goes to...
... ragnarok who voted for Cal as #18!
This award was presented to the user(s) who held a glass half-empty look at Cal
So now we know why ragnarok likes Longshore.
The Five Most Confusing Teams Were...
- Notre Dame
- Brigham Young
- Nebraska
- North Carolina
- Utah
Most people had the most trouble figuring out where these five teams belonged. This list is limited to teams that are in the top-25 only.
No surprises here.
The Five Least Confusing Teams Were...
- Florida
- Texas
- Oklahoma
- Southern California
- Florida State
Most people were generally on the same page when it came to these teams. This list is limited to teams that are in the top-25 only otherwise all the crappy teams would top this list.
I find seeing Texas on this list funny. Because this shows that everyone who voted on this poll voted Texas a lot further down than anyone else in the country. We really don't like Texas it seems. And even on CGB Tebow-fever exists.
The Five Most Divergent Voters Were...
- ragnarok
- CaliforniaCMB
- Missing Barry
- Nashville
- CruzinBears
This avard was given to the five voters whose poll differed most from the overall Top 25.
I had expected to see Missing Barry at #1 here with his vote for Syracuse and putting Cal at #1 but it looks like ragnarok wins out with his inexplicable vote for Utah at #2, TCU at #7 and other such oddities.
The Five Least Divergent Voters Were...
- calbear1017
- jshufelt
- royrules22
- RollOnYouBears667
- Davis Bear
This avard was given to the five voters whose poll differed the least from the overall Top 25.
Most of the voters on this list pretty much voted exactly as the poll turned out to be. Even with Cal at #9.
So this is our very first poll results. Please give me suggestion on how to improve it! Next week, the poll will have teams that dropped out, and indicators on how far up or down a team moved week to week. Also, the voting for week 1 will begin Sunday night or Monday morning.

Inexplicabale?
My vote wasn’t inexplicable…I explained it already! I submitted the very same ballot I did at the end of last season.
So, basically, you gotta Go Bears!

Could you explain that?

That seems fairly explicable to me.

As far as I’m aware, I didn’t vote for Syracuse?
by Missing Barry on Aug 30, 2009 9:45 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
Well it might have been an accident then. Because it definitely recorded you as voting for Syracuse
It’s only preseason :p

Well let’s chalk that up to preseason mishaps. It was not intentional. This is what training camp is for, but don’t worry, I’ll be ready to go when the season starts.

After much deliberation I’m going to plead not guilty. I am not convinced I voted for Syracuse.

Not sure if this is a case for the CGB Supreme Court. Is there a lower court of appeal?

This is so weak, we need a CGB Small Claims Court. Or, in the alternative, some sort of CGB Judge Judy. I nominate CaliforniaCMB.

I present the defense’s evidence: I do not recall voting for Syracuse. I’m being framed!

Ah, the OJ Defense. Maybe you should try typing at the keyboard to see if its possible using thta keyboard to vote for Syracuse. But youll have to wear bulky gloves while doing it to keep the keyboard clean.

I am not admitting that. In fact, similar to the real Barry defense, I have yet to see any substantial evidence I did vote for Syracuse.

That is why we need your computer, keyboard, mouse, fingers and now we’re going to

loved cal the most?
“This award was presented to the user(s) who loved Cal the most out of everyone who voted this week”
i beg to differ on this statement..
as a true cal fan, i know putting them #1 would only cause trouble and it would get to the heads many of our young players..i want to give them a something to shoot for.. set realistic expectations and together experience us leapfrogging the competition.. hopefully.
#1.. possible, but not out of the gate.

The evil four #1 voters should be banned from voting. They are clearly CAL haters who are trying to jinx us out of one of our Rosebowl opportunities. I say boo on them.

That’s all I hear from cleancut and Ylee…
Am I really getting into the heads of Cal Football players? Doubtful
Like Adam Durst says… “Be True, Wear Blue, and vote for Cal to be #1 on the CGB preseason poll”

I thought every fan was required to think they are in complete control of the outcome of the game through their actions? I know that’s how I think. If I so much as wear the wrong clothes that day, I just lost the game for our team…

Fight the Power!!!
I’m glad I got mentioned as most divergent, I hate pre-season polls because they inherently screw over the non-Top25 teams that rightfully deserve to be ranked at the end of the season (Cal 2008 cough cough) Fight the coaches and AP powers that be!!!
Homer maybe… True Cal fan is the way I like to look at it! And these are pre-season, therefore meaningless in terms of final standings…
Why not put Cal as #1, that’s where I think they have potential to finish and want them to finish… It’s pre-season… None of us have seen them play yet against a real opponent yet… My voting may change following the first week, and it may not… But I will stay divergent from the Coaches/AP norm and NEVER NEVER NEVER vote for Texas to be in the Top 25 (no matter how much the rightfully deserve to be there), if Mack Brown can do it, so can I!!!
That’s it, I’m taking a stand, now that we have permanent lights I’m climbing to the top and camping out until my rights are heard… It worked for Dumpster Muffin right?
