I'll run through a few highlights:

First, Isi was rather popular.  Apparently fans on the interents know who he is:

I chatted with Coach Marshall for a bit while players were filtering out onto the field, cool guy.  He's pretty excited about what he's seen in practice, but made the point that they still need to transition it to live game time action, which makes sense.

While I was waiting, Hydro Technicians appeared!

Then they almost ran a kid over, needs more Beast Mode.

So players continued to come out onto the field:

Some even had their families out.  Here are the Alualu's:

Hill had his kid with him for a bit:

And of course the booths with the long lines:

Coach Tedford with some random guy:

I said this in the liveblog thread, but I’m glad I’m never going to have to work one of those as a HydroTech again. Like turkey said, the field was so choked with people it was nearly impossible to move the water coolers, valuable medical supplies, and injured players, and we did indeed almost run over several small children who seemed intent on sprinting out in front of the cart. Quite a few people gave us “How dare you drive a golf cart through a large crowd of people!” looks. Just a looong day.

On a lighter note, nice pictures! Some really good candid shots of different players in there. I also found it sort of amusing that hundreds of people were willing to wait in a line to spend 5 seconds or so with a guy I see at work every day. I hadn’t really appreciated my position that way before.

Alright, fine, I admit it! "Hydration Technician" really DOES just mean "water boy!"

So, you are the guy that nearly ran the kid over? haha

by turkey on Aug 30, 2009 1:42 AM PDT up reply actions

Yeah

The sheer number of small people made for a high probability that I would have a close call or two. Definitely not an experience to make me more excited about having kids of my own.

Poor organization on Fan Day

Man, was it HOT!!! Standing in line, or, in a crowd, waiting, is not one of my strong suits. Arriving early to stand before the gates of the North Tunnel was not a good idea. When the gates finally opened, we sat in a line on the left sideline, waiting for Jahvis. He arrived about 20 minutes later, and sat at the table at the front of the line….and, waited. Nothing happened. No movement, and it was getting hotter. About 15 minutes later, Syd Qu’an arrived, and, the line finally started moving. So, total time standing in that sun, untill I finally got Best’s signature??….a little less than 3 hours. Not fun. The line for JT was no where near as long, and, moving, at an incredibly SLOW rate. JT is a VERY Personal cat, and, writes more than his signature, talking to everyfan, and standing for various poses and pics, whatever u want. Nice guy, terribly slow and hot line. Wisest move would have been to forget Jahvis and Jeff, and just get sigs from all the Very accomodating Cal team members walking on the field. They all were extremely gracious and fun to chat with.

by Primo on Aug 30, 2009 12:28 AM PDT reply actions

Perhaps next time what they need to do is to put all the big-hitters in one line so people don’t have to stand in multiple extremely long lines to get autographs. In other words, this year for example, they should have put Thompson, Best, and Tedford all in one tent so there’d be one line. Then people get three autographs from probably the most sought after people and only have to wait in one line.

PS Never feel guilty for exploiting your spouse. Remember, if a cow had a chance, he’d eat you and everyone you loved. It’s the same concept in marriage.

I’m not sure what carnivorous transvestite cows have to do with marriage, but it doesn’t seem like a very flattering comparison.

I enjoyed going thru the whole set on Flickr. Even when we look at the depth chart and get excited, there are some other guys out there like DJ Holt and DeAndre Coleman who look like absolute beasts (albeit super nice guys too). It’ll be great to see them grow and mature into starters.

Thanks for sharing the pics. And go blow your nose, Twist, stop sulking. We’ll enjoy your pics too.
