Golden Nuggets: Weekend Edition
All is right in the universe again: Best is back in practice taking hits, Guarnero has returned to practice, and Cameron Jordan is back on first team defense. Cal made its debut in the AP rankings this weekend and we've also got a story on how the receivers are looking to prove their critics wrong this year.
- Cal made its debut at 12th in the AP poll.
- Day 15 of camp was largely uneventful, but it looks like the depth chart is coming into place for the offensive line and linebackers. Brian Anger had his best day at camp so far. I'm guessing this means his punts were landing somewhere in Hayward.
- Day 16 was an important day of camp as center Chris Guarnero made his return and Jahvid was back taking hits from the defense and looking good while doing so. According to Jonathan Okanes Best's toe injury was a by-product of offeason surgery. Tedford also said Sofele is "farther along than any young guy who's been here." Bad news for Yarnway, though, as he may need surgery on his foot. Recently demoted Cameron Jordan had a "fire lit under him" according to Tedford and worked his way back up to the first team defense. These developments are especially important because camp effectively ends Monday as players will then turn their attention towards preparations for Maryland.
- Cal's receivers have been running and training throughout the Bay Area to improve upon last year's disappointing performances. The linebackers, however, are simply looking to match last year's performances by moving players around until they get a versatile, effective lineup.

Also, you can score some major gigantic marriage points if you do skip a game at her behest.

Not if he were married to me
I’m going to all games regardless of what my husband does/says – LOL
How can you not love a team that does this?
I'll probably post this in the DBD tomorrow also
but a few new things from Memorial:
New permanent light standards next to the pressbox

New…something on the Alumni side. I don’t know what the purpose of these railings and such is, but as you can see, they removed some seats to add it. It’s so low in the section, however, that I doubt many people sit in this area anyway:

Alright, fine, I admit it! "Hydration Technician" really DOES just mean "water boy!"

???
How did they finally get an OK for permanent lighting? This has always been a huge issue with the Panoramic Hill Society. Those pretentious jerks would see us play with candles. This is pretty big. How did this happen?

OIC, the permanent lighting is minimal and relegated only near the press box. Still, a big victory none the less. Perhaps the Nimby’s finally realize that given the utterly bleak economy, Cal Football is good for the city? Beats me…

Lighting related to SAHPC construction?
I suspect this lighting might only be allowed during the SAHPC construction process. There’s now a big hole where the portable lights would usually be positioned.
Perhaps you are right. That would certainly make sense.
