Report: USC coach Floyd submits resignation
Wow, USC basketball went down the drain real quick. That program looked to be on the rise after Nick Young and Pruitt to OJ Mayo to DeRozan and then to Renardo Sidney. In a matter of a month or 2, the whole program has really fallen apart...

This make me sad.
Wait, no that’s wrong. What’s the opposite of sad?

Does this mean Cal is now the odds-on favorite to win the Pac?

Cal is
never the odds on favorite to win anything. Except the rugby.

I don’t think USC was a favorite to win the conference before this. UW and UCLA (if Holliday returns) were probably going to get some votes. ’Zona getting Nic Wise back helps them, too.

What if, in fact, he was innocent but he only resigned because he doesn’t have the energy to deal with proving himself?
Not that I believe it, but makes you think…

Am I the only person who is disappointed?
Tim Floyd was clearly a lame duck with all of the scandals and defections. I would have preferred that he stuck around as long as possible with no hope of real contention. Now USC is just going to start the rebuilding process a year earlier.

yeah, but at this point, they’re going to have a very tough time finding a quality coach. they may be better off appointing an interim coach and going after a big name next year.

For all his faults
Floyd is a really good basketball coach. So anytime the conference loses someone who knows his hoops at a rival school, I can’t say I’m really that upset over it.

What's up with all the Monty talk?
Some people are saying that he’d consider the SC job….seriously? Why would he?

I honestly have no idea. I guess he has some ties to Southern California, though he was a Long Beach State alum, and has no ties to USC that I know of. I can only guess that it’s wishful thinking; it seems preposterous to me.

a little disappointing
despite the disdain that most of us have for USC athletics, i am a little disappointed by this. because when it comes down to it, i am a fan of the pac 10. in the ncaa tournament, i admit i root for USC. floyd was someone who helped put pac 10 basketball on the map with his recruiting ‘ability’. being able to land oj mayo (however it may have happened) really gave the pac 10 a lot of national coverage. getting derozan last year and sidney for a few minutes (even though the had LA ties) was still big time for a pac 10 program.
for awhile, pac 10 basketball was kind of weak—just arizona was a tourney lock and UCLA/UW/oregon/stanford/cal would fight for a few extra tournament bids. however, over the past few years, the depth of the conference has improved a bit in my opinion. a lot of that has to do with floyd at USC. despite what he may have done in regards to recruiting OJ mayo, he did a lot to help put the pac 10 conference back on the national map…

Sidney irony
So they wouldn’t take Sidney because of red flags in his recruiting? I guess paying $1000 to OJ, allowing an agent to get a house for Reggie’s parents, and putting Lil’ Romeo on your bench so you can get his best friend, Derozan aren’t red flags.
Double Irony – If Floyd would have just taken the scorched earth carpetbagging move to Arizona which is the MO of this type of “great recruiter” coach, he’d be clear like Calipari with his fake SAT takers and Sampson (well before he f’ed up again.)
At least Al Davis isn't running my team's drafts.

also i like how he said he no longer has "full enthusiasm" for his job
how much of a buzzkill is looming ncaa sanctions and USC administrators forcing him out? i guess that would make someone lose enthusiasm.
and how long until floyd is enthusiastic about coaching another team again? it will be strange and ironic when he decides to take a lower level coaching job in the south (close to his mississippi home) and then claims he suddenly has enthusiasm for coaching again…

the real final straw
SC turned down his latest request for a cash advance for “travel” expenses and moved his reserved parking space to the far end of the lot.

What? They moved his reserved parking space to the end of the lot? Talk about cold blooded.
