Breaking News : Christopher To Return To Cal
We're not known as the CNN of the Cal Blogosphere (for nothing). Last April, we were the first organization to break the removal of Ben Braun as the Cal Men's Basketball Coach. This year, we are the first organization (to my knowledge) to break this year's news: Patrick Christopher will return for his senior season. Sources VERY close to Christopher confirm that he will be back in blue and gold next year. While this may have been expected, stranger things have happened and it's great to get confirmation that one of our big guns is coming back. Christopher and Randle are Cal's best and most important players and will give Cal a chance to improve on this year's surprisingly good showing. I for one am excited to see what they can do next year.

This seems early to me, actually
I always expected P-Chris to come back, but I would hope that he got plenty of valuable evaluation out of the process.
So, basically, you gotta Go Bears!

Interesting... BUT
what does Patrick Christopher like about Dasarte Yarnway’s skillset or Jarred Price’s motor?
Welcome back, South Beach LeBron. I look forward to your continued use of Hops™ and Skillz™ to aid our Final Four ’10 run.

So does this mean he won’t be going through any of the pre-draft stuff? That’s bad news – playing basketball against other good players often would help his game, and the evaluation from scouts on what he needs to work on, and seeing how much farther he has to go to be a first round pick may have really helped him.
That said, it’s understandable not to participate in this stuff. From a personal standpoint, it’d be a huge commitment, and he does still have to attend classes and such as a student since he’d be coming back next year. I also believe he would have had to pay his way to everything to keep his NCAA eligibility.

on that I cannot comment
I am unsure if he will continue to go through the pre-draft camps. I only know that he will be returning to Cal.

He should be playing in the pro-am summer leagues. Jason Kidd was playing in the San Francisco Summer ProAm before he went to Cal against the likes of Gary Payton. Christopher has done the Nike Big Man Skills Camp and the LeBron camps in the past.
Also, he’ll get evaluated by scouts but he probably won’t see those evaluations. The NBA teams own that proprietary information.

I don’t think he’d get a chance to read those evaluations word for word, but I have a feeling how he performs will be dissected over and over on the Internet. Not that what you read is always going to be 100% true, but it should be enough for him to see what the consensus opinion is anyway.
Still happy over the fact that the Nets signed Ryan Anderson. Now if only they can sign Leon Powe after this year...

Scouts
Will also let him know what he needs to work on to make it to the next level.

Teams are gaming the players and scouts work for the teams. They’ll tell a player he looks awesome but then pick someone else. As they say, it’s a business.

A guy like Christopher will get a lot of feedback from scouts. There’s nothing special about him that needs to be hidden, and if there was, other people will discover it in private workouts and on film, anyways. If you followed Hardin when he went through this process he got a lot of feedback.
http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/DeVon-Hardin-225/
In an interview on that site:
Why did you decide to enter the NBA Draft last season, after playing only 12 games?
Hardin: I entered the draft just to basically see where I was, and where I was in comparison the other premier players in the country. I wanted to get feedback from NBA scouts, NBA general managers…not just scouts, as to what I could work on for this upcoming season. It was a consideration at one point to keep my name in there because I was getting such good feedback, but I figured I’d go back to school for another year and if I get a solid year under my belt, I could really make some good things happen this year.
What seemed to be the feedback that you received from NBA GM‘s and scouts in regards of what you needed to improve upon most?
Hardin: Improve my shot. Be more consistent with my shot. Consistency on offense was the main point that I got from the coaches. Physically, they say that I am very dominating over most of the big men that I was playing against in the camps. Offensively, they said I just need to develop a little finesse, and a little more touch around the basket. That was the general feedback. You can’t dunk everything.
Teams will try to hide who they’re going to pick in an upcoming draft, but there’s no incentive for them not to give a player working out for them tips on what his biggest weaknesses and how to improve them. It can even be benefitial to the team if they tell the player what to work on and over the course of the workout process or the next season notice an improvement in those areas. They’ll discover how coachable the kid is, whereas other teams may not work with the player and find that out.
