Weekend DBD: NOOOOOO!
No. NO. NOOOOOOOOO!
Just heard an article on KABC News in LA that Marshawn was arrested in Culver City for possession of a firearm. They had a copy of his booking photo. No more details, and I haven't found a link, yet.
The weird part is that there's been no coverage of this outside of that report, so maybe it isn't totally for sure that it was Beast Mode. But two Cal fans have seen it and verified it from BI, so the original report at least exists.
This is depressing. I'm not even ready to think about the basketball game. PLEASE MEDIA, BE WRONG AGAIN!
Update: Apparently if you want to confirm this info, you can check with the Culver City PD. Here's a link to their department.
Just got off the line with the Culver City PD Watch Commander. He read me what sounded like a formatted press release which stated that ML was among three men who were stopped on February 11 riding in a Mercedes Benz in that City. A hand gun was found concealed in the vehicle and follow up investigation confirmed that the gun belonged to Marshawn Lynch. Lynch was booked for possession of a concealed weapon and he was subsequently released on bail. The case will be presented early next week to the DA who will decide whether or not to prosecute. That is all that the WC had available. He referred me to their media Lieutenant who will be out for the next several days. It will be interesting to see whether the story goes any further over the next few days. If no one has run with it so far, it might get more play if and when the DA decides to prosecute.
EDIT: LA County Sheriff has information on a Marshawn Terrell Lynch, born 4/2/86, being arrested on a felony charge on 2/11/09 at 1800, being released on bail of 35K at 2045. You can do a search of his name here. Coverage or no coverage, it looks like it happened.
The opinions expressed in a FanPost are, in every way, reflective of the opinions of every California Golden Blogs Marshawnthusiast. Moreover, they are reflective of every employee of SBNation, including Tyler "Blez" Bleszinski.

when i get rich and famous, remind me to hire someone else to carry my illegal firearms for me.
So, basically, you gotta Go Bears!
I wish they’d arrest someone carrying a firearm with the intent to harm somebody, like, oh, a gillion people in the surrounding area. If I had money, I’d be strapped too near Inglewood and surrounding areas..

Another 2010 WR to look out for
Kearse, a 6-foot-2, 200-pound wideout, has maintained a top three of California, Oregon and Washington throughout the early stages of his recruitment, which hasn’t changed. Though he’s keeping things fairly open at this point.
“I wouldn’t say I have an early favorites, I’m just looking at all schools right now,” explained Kearse. "But if I had to pick a top three, it would be Cal, U-Dub and Oregon. But all of the colleges out there are pretty close.

BY NOW, you’d think something would’ve come out about this…. Starting to believe there was some sort of mix up. Keeping fingers crossed.
You ain't got it like Marshawn got it
Is it complete deluded homer naivete
to think that this really doesn’t seem like something Marshawn would do?
Some other guys were in the car, so maybe it was someone else’s gun in the car and not on Marshawn’s person?…. I don’t know about the letter of the law on this

Here is my guess, unless it was found on Marshawn, someone in the car will admit it was theirs and no one else knew. Tat said, still nothing after searching google news.

I think they love Alex Mack even more than Cal fans do… Unfortunately, they’re not in a good spot to get him at all

UCLA down by 20+ with about 10 min to go. BN is probably a fun place to be right now.

awesome
well, with the Bruins going down, UW is in control of the conference, though the winner of the Pac-10 may have 5 conference losses. Cal is still in this thing, but they pretty much have to run the table.
So, basically, you gotta Go Bears!
I think we can lose one as long as we beat UCLA

UCLA still controls their own destiny for a split title
as does ASU. Cal unfortunately does not.
I don’t see Washington beating UCLA on their home floor.

You can’t make a perfect joke every time. Even if you do, you can miss with perfect timing.
However, you can make an opponent cry from 1-2 feet further out, slow him down on his way to the witty reply by 1-2 seconds, get a hand in his face and alter his mood by 5-10 prozac.
That’s what SARCASM is.

what do you think about bandwagon fans who come here after games with their “analysis” and “opinions”?
Marshawn will wiggle his way out of it somehow.

I was thinking it might have been an illegal search and seizure. CGB lawyers will activate…Form of BEASTMODE
Im all about the Syd Pro Quo
So,all we know is the following:
The Culver City Police Department on Sunday afternoon released a brief statement with details of the arrest. The statement noted officers spotted three men in a 2006 Mercedes Benz and recognized Lynch as the Bills’ running back.
“A subsequent field investigation led to the discovery of a loaded firearm,” the report said. “The officers determined the gun belonged to Lynch and he was arrested for possession of a concealed firearm.”
Without question if that is the only reason they stopped the vehicle, the discovery of the firearm is going to be suppressed. Nothing there indicates a traffic violation, a warrant, etc. We also have no idea why the officers asked the men inside to step out of the vehicle. If they had a reason to stop the vehicle and in approaching the car they saw the firearm in plain view then fine. If they had a reason to stop the vehicle and when they approached they smelled marijuana, then they could perform a search. The key here is justifying the stop and justifying the search. I am also extremely unclear as to how they determined the firearm belonged to Marshawn. Presumably it was legally purchased and registered in his name. Barring that, unless there was some sort of confession, I have no clue how they determined it belong to him.

Seeing as this is the only charge against Marshawn, it is unlikely that the smell of drugs is going to be used as a specific articulable fact to support the officer’s reasonable suspicion to detain and search the vehicle.

Heh, I was a Bills fan before I was a Cal fan. This is serious biz for my pro team and it could influence our negotiations with Fred Jackson. You don’t want to lose him and then find out Lynch is suspended for so-and-so games in the regular season. That cripples another season and makes it easier for the NFL to start thinking of moving the team to Toronto.

Well that is up to Ralph Wilson really. He needs to sell it locally before he passes away. Otherwise, his estate administrator or trustee will likely have to sell it to the highest bidder. Unfortunately, unless Jeremy Jacobs and Tom Golisano want to join forces, that likely won’t come from a WNY buyer.

The Canadians are in prime position to bid for it considering the depressed state of Buffalo’s economy. We need to start making the playoffs soon and maybe that’ll help revive the city and get enough investors to keep it there. But this is all speculation; I really know nothing about who’s interested in the team.
by BearsNecessity on Feb 15, 2009 4:05 PM PST up reply actions
The city isn’t going to be magically revived by the Bills making the playoffs. The franchise, perhaps, the city, that is so much more difficult.
The Canadians were in a much stronger position a year or so ago when the Canadian Dollar peaked. In addition, the guy driving the Canadian interest was Ted Rogers who passed away in the fall.

Jim Kelly still lives near Orchard Park. Is he interested in finding a way to keep the Bills there?
by BearsNecessity on Feb 15, 2009 4:09 PM PST up reply actions
He is, as is Thurman Thomas who recently moved back to Buffalo. There have been rumors about Kelly forming a group to buy the team, but he could never buy the team outright or be the lead investor. Gotta love Jim’s commitment to the team and city.

Dude, Im watching Real Housewives Of Orange County. One of the moms (whose son plays for the As, actually) has a daughter at Berkeley. And they are moving her into what I believe is that Gaia building downtown. Then, they go to look at the tree-sitters by the stadium. And then she talks aobut how scared she is homeless people. Duurrrr, Berkeley has hippies and homeless people. I’m not interested in anything but the most superficial glance at anything in life!
She ends up dropping out of Berkeley for some lame reasons (I think she said she didn’t “fit in”). In reality, she was probably too stupid.
