Put your CGB tax dollars to work and vote in royrules22's top-25 ballot.
Last night was the annual Cal football banquet, where a variety of awards were handed out to members of the football team. Go here for the complete list of winners. Here are some of the highlights:

Offense - T.J. Emery and Ryan Wertenberger
Defense - Steven Fanua and Keni Kaufusi
Special Teams - Tyre Ellison and Spencer Hagan
The scout team PotY awards caught me by surprise, as I didn't know Wertenberger was a QB until just a couple weeks ago. Remember the name Steve Fanua in the coming years, as he is certain to become a vocal leader on defense.
After the jump we have more awards as the All-Pac-10 team was announced, reactions from to the Poinsettia bowl from Cal/Utah players and coaches, a lolwut quote of the week as Wilner calls the BCS "fair and open," post-game quotes from women's bball's loss to Texas A&M, and more.
Cal Football
- The All-Pac-10 team was announced this morning. Tepper, Alualu, Syd, Mohamed, and Anger all made the first team. Jahvid Best was the lone Cal player on the second team.
- Ted Miller provides a brief preview of the Poinsettia Bowl. With its struggles at quarterback, Utah sounds like it won't have an easy time lighting up the Bears' defense like Locker did.
- Utah looks forward to playing Cal in the Poinsettia Bowl. Utah's coach Kyle Wittingham says it will be an interesting matchup, as Ludwig knows Utah's defense very well while Wittingham is very familiar with Ludwig's. JO has quotes from Tedford, Wittingham, Vereen, and Tepper, as they react to the bowl announcement.
- After getting blown out in their last game, many players want to redeem the season with a win over Utah.
- Cal drops to seventh in Ted Miller's Pac-10 power rankings.
- In the lolwut statement of the week, Wilner says "Texas’ game-winning field goal was the most important kick in BCS history because of what it did to the BCS: It made the flawed, oft-criticized but incredibly successful system appear fair and open."
- Boyle was pleased with the effort, aggressiveness, and rebounding in the loss against Texas A & M, but she was disappointed with all the missed free throws.
- Monty's team fell out of both rankings after splitting last week's games. They received 5 points in the AP poll and 10 in the coaches' poll.

Anyone else SHOCKED that Tepper made first team?
Have to say I’m pretty surprised at Anger. He’s had fewer “WOW” punts than last year and he’s had some pretty bad shanks too. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still happy to have him, but it surprises me to have the guy with the 4th yards per punt average in the Pac-10 making first team.
I was surprised that both Tepper and Anger made the first team. While Tepper is a great leader and had an important role in the locker room this season, his results on the field weren’t spectacular. In fact, I was a bit disappointed with Tepper (particularly with the number of penalties he committed).
While I believe Anger is the best punter in the Pac-10, he didn’t necessarily show it this season. I thought that Reid Forrest of WSU and Jeff Locke of UCLA had solid seasons. I was surprised Locke didn’t end up with the award.
Whose domicile? OUR DOMICILE!
Tepper has no business being on first team. The guy was a complete shadow of his former self out on the field this season.
i'm here to clean your pool but i don't have a pool *bowchica bowow*
Most coaches don’t put much thought into the selections.
2009 All Pac10 First Team Offense:
Mike Tepper
2009 All Pac10 HM:
Mitchell Schwartz
2009 Cal Football Team Awards:
Brick Muller Award – Most Valuable Offensive Lineman
Offense – Mitchell Schwartz
I would tend to trust our coaches who see these guys play practice and play all the time to make the proper assessment.
Meh, I’m glad for him. I don’t care if other coaches are misinformed about our players. GO BEARS!

Was he ever that amazing? Seemed like he was too hurt for anybody to get a read on his abilities til this year, really. I think Cal fans were just thinking 6 year guy = pancake blocks for everybody!!!
The #1 greatest threat to America: BEARS
He started every game in 2007, though that was at right tackle.
"Let me tell you a story. I was a political prisoner for two years. The instant I was released I ran to McDonald's. I had a Big Mac and a Coke.
It was fantastic."

He was pretty decent in 07 in a line that gave up the fewest sacks in the nation.
Then again the line had people like Mack, Malele and others.
In other words, Go Bears!
Well, in all honesty, the reason why the 2007 OL gave up the fewest sacks in the nation was because Longshore was the QB.

Oh noes!

True but come on you have to give some credit to the O-line who was outright dominant. Except the redzone I guess.
In other words, Go Bears!
Roy – the 2007 OL was far from “outright dominant.” They had their moments but there was a lot of inconsistency throughout the season. I mentioned on the blog a few weeks back while discussing our current OL relative to past OLs that Nate was really good at getting rid of the ball fast to avoid the sack, but the problem was that he would force it too much resulting in INTs.
Alualu had a pretty strong case for team MVP.
All aboard the Jahvid Best rickshaw!

In the 2nd year of new uniforms, I’m starting to like them. I wish they had a few more straight lines to look more “firm.” The curves seem like they would fit a spread team better.
Thank god we don’t have adidas though. ucla, michigan, notre dame, louisville, kansas all have adidas and have had disappointing seasons.

Is that even a contest? We all know who wins that one year in year out.

Bowl selections following the 2010 season
I couldn’t find this anywhere else, so I went to the various bowls’ websites to compile it. Feel free to correct and repost if you think others will find it useful. The bowls are listed in the order that they will pick teams from the Pac-10 (i.e. Rose gets 1st pick; Emerald gets 6th):
Rose (or NCG) vs. Big 10 #1
Alamo vs. Big 12 #3
Holiday vs. Big 12 #5
Sun vs. ACC #5
Vegas vs. MWC #1
Emerald vs. WAC #1/2/3 in 2010 and 2013; vs. Army in 2011; vs. Navy in 2012
And it looks like Cal is the last Pac-10 team to play in the Poinsettia Bowl for the foreseeable future. I ignored the situation where we have a NCG team and an at-large BCS team, since that would never happen (see 2004).
