I think we might have been overlooking Washington a little bit. I think a lot of us were more worried about the bowl game than Washington, and it bit us in the butt.
...
I was pissed. It was a frustrating game.
...
We got beat in all phases of the game. You have to give Washington credit. They were ready to play and we weren't.
Shane Vereen, Kevin Riley and Jeff Tedford (respectively) on the Washington game.
Lesson to be learned: Always finish the season with The Big Game. ALWAYS.

So much for all that talk about how the last visit to Washington was a motivator for them. After reading all those quotes about how they weren’t going to let Washington 2007 happen again, I am really disappointed in this team.
Whose domicile? OUR DOMICILE!
In a way they didn’t…the 2007 team was marginally in the game. Last night’s game seemed to be getting away from the team even before D’Amato’s first field goal miss.
BTW, I had to switch between the regular TV and my computer all night…what the hell happened to the short passing game over the middle with Lagemann? Was he hurt (like Syd) too? It’s was like walking into a time warp back into the Oregon game. :oP

From what I saw there was only one pass over the middle to Lags and it was too short at the defenders heels.
There were a couple to Miller, one of which he uncharacteristcally dropped.
Riley was just off in his timing and started overthrowing. This was the Riley from the USC game (though not THAT bad).
The defense? UGH
In other words, Go Bears!
Vereen obvi didn’t read carp’s DBD Don’t look past the Fuskies.
Cal Football: I loved them once and they broke my heart. Let that be a lesson to you. Never love anything.
I only missed the OSU game (didn’t fly down for that one and after Best’s injury I left the TV on and just posted on CGB).
From what I could see at Autzen the Bears gave up, plain and simple. Even Syd. The last time I saw that was Stanfurd 07 where it seemed only the Hawk and Forsett cared.
Against USC it looked like they were trying but the offense just lacked the intensity and couldn’t get ANYTHING done because the O-line spent 99.99999% of the game on their asses.
Against UW it was a mix of both. By the middle of the 3rd Q they gave up.
In other words, Go Bears!
False.

No. Last game in 2007 regular season was the Big Game.
Only in 2008 and 2009 did we finish with UW.
In other words, Go Bears!
Oh, I could have sworn Washington was the end that year (because they had completely given up by that point). My apologies YWC.

Aw, I thought you were just pretending the 2007 season never happened.

Then he would’ve said that the season ended in September with the Oregon game
In other words, Go Bears!
Nice Wins versus Nasty Losses...
It just occurred to me that this year reminded me of our ‘82 season…going 7-4, with the 4 losses being less than close calls: A 15-0 loss to ASU, 50-7 blowout by U-Dub, a 47-31 loss to ucla, and U$c’s 42-0 blowout.
Funny that at the time, those losses seemed about right. We won what we should have, and lost what didn’t seem possible at the time. I guess the 1980 and 1981 seasons would do that to a Cal fan.
I wonder what J Torchio’s been up to of late? And on the positive side, isn’t Gale Gilbert’s boy and somewhat regarded recruit in Texas?

So, when are we going to realize that moving the Washington game from mid-season to after the Big Game is a terrible idea?
Two years ago in Seattle – horrible loss. Last year – as I recall a terribly attended home game. This year – horrible loss. Its not like we got healthy over thanksgiving weekend.
I agree on ending with the Big Game, but UW was coming off the Apple Cup, so no excuses.
GOLD OUT MOZAMBIQUE!
as soon as they announced the 5-Dec game in Seattle, I thought it was a bit odd. I think I would have rather not had a bye week.

Because playing on 12 consecutive weeks couldn’t end in disaster.

We ended the season with Stanford two years ago. Next year we play Stanford in December. Playing Washington last these two years has basically been a hangover from the transition to the 12 game season. Nobody in either athletic department is sitting thinking “you know what would be a great idea? Ending our season against someone other than our rival!”

I know Tedford called for the Washington changes for an extra bye week. I wonder if we’d played them after USC how we would’ve performed…

I wonder how poorly we would be playing in a 12 week run.

Any chance of a comeback...
evaporated when Cal cut the score to 28-10. What happens next? Short and low kickoff to the 15 that gets returned to the 50. To mount any kind of comeback you have to at least start by at least start by not yielding field position.
This game spiraled into the toilet:
Out of position defense → struggling offense —> piss poor special teams —>———————————————————————————————————————————————————|

For me watching Udub crap all over us was only “bearable” knowing that just before us another team that we spanked pissed on anther team that added us to their 2009 joke book. The only two consistent things about our Bears this year was the perfectly streaming TIGER boos at the furd and of course our sweet cheerleaders.
All 4 losses... we got shelled and looked like crap
And then in the wins, we often looked fantastic. What gives?
Either on or off? I don’t get it.
Strange season.
