Damn. I wish I saw your post before I stole it and put it on the Golden Nuggets thread.
I blame Alamar for this mistake. Him and Longshore.

Indeed. We won’t have Pete Alamar to kick around any more.

Why do you hate freedom?
And why do you love being wrong?

Good luck to Alamar, I hope USC hires him
No seriously, I do hope he lands on his feet. Being unemployed is never an easy or fun thing and I am sure he has a family to provide for and take of.
I would like to thank Alamar for all the hard work he put in, regardless of the results on the field I am certain he tried his best to fix the special teams and make each one of those kids a better player and person. In the end, it just didn’t work out and was time for both Cal and Alamar to move on in a different direction. No more hard feelings about that UCLA game back in 05.
Really Alamar wasn't the only reason for the failures this season
I don’t really expect anymore coaches getting fired. The three biggest heads that Cal fans would love to see roll, in no particular order: Marshall, Ludwig, and Gregory probably aren’t going anywhere.
Maybe another position coach or two, the LB’s (who is the LB coach, does Gregory double as both LB coach and DC?) and WR’s coach may get fired but beyond that I would not expect much more movement in the coaching ranks.
Jeff Tedford – Head Coach
Bob Gregory – Defensive Coordinator
Andy Ludwig – Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks
Kevin Daft – Wide Receivers
Ron Gould – Associate Head Coach/Running Backs
Tosh Lupoi – Defensive Line
Steve Marshall – Offensive Line
Al Simmons – Defensive Backs
Kenwick Thompson – Recruiting Coordinator/Linebackers
Matt Beck – Graduate Assistant, Offense
Taggart McCurdy – Graduate Assistant, Defense

I am not advocating his firing I am just saying if any heads are going to roll it will be
a position coach. The defense did struggle this year and the LB’s were one of the major reasons for that. The LB’s never really progressed (besides MM) throughout the season and often times they had poor tackling form/technique which resulted in missed tackles. Beyond that, most of the LB’s (besides MM) were terrible in coverage and often caught out of position.
I noticed that our former WR coach Dan Ferrigno is now ST coach at SDSU. I wonder if Ferrigno was helping out with ST during his time here and his departure a couple years back had left Alamar in charge of ST by himself, thereby further diminishing the special team’s performance.

This is pretty huge. In a sick, twisted way this season was not a waste if it’s what it took for Alamar and Cal Football to finally part ways.
Giving our opponents a green light to score each kickoff was something like, “hey, get 25 yds and i’ll let you in field goal range.” Instead, teams opted to score TD’s against us.
We need to replace him with a coach whose name is as easy to yell in agony.

yeah, but...
I think being a Cal fan is about expecting/hoping for the best, and then being able to deal with the almost inevitable disappointment that ensues. It’s not about giving into the disappointment from the start by having diminished expectations.
So… We’re going to get an awesome special teams coach. And, next year is our year. :)

Coach Michalczik was a special teams coordinator once
For Oregon State in the late 90s.
Praise be to Tedford!
