Bowl Game Blowout! Open Thread for 12/27/09
Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl
Initial Thoughts: Ah, the Music City Bowl. Nashville's Holiday Tradition. Right up there with my holiday tradition of not even realizing it's on.
Most Awesome Player: C.J. Spiller (201 rushes for 1,145 yards and 11 touchdowns; 33 receptions for 445 yards and 4 touchdowns; 13 punt returns for 210 yards and 1 touchdown; 21 kick returns for 708 yards and 4 touchdowns)
Most Awesome Sponsor: O'Charley's!

Accuscore says: Clemson 29, Kentucky 21
ESPN says: Clemson 34, Kentucky 16
Who you should be rooting for: Clemson - because who doesn't enjoy a good SEC beatdown?

Bailey was on him all game. Hard to get it to Desean (prolly the reason Oakland beat them—Asomugha locked him down).

Man, Colts fans are going CRAZY that Caldwell threw away an undefeated season
That was a really strange decision. But they’re acting as if they lost the Super Bowl.

Is that what they call Stampede Blue now?
Everyone’s super pissed off. Fire Polian, Fire Caldwell. Hilarious.

I'll take Clemson
The SEC isn’t likely as overrated as some believe, but against Kentucky, I’d say the ACC should prevail.
I dunno. Spiller has been getting so much pub that he’s due for a letdown.

He let down pretty hard in the South Carolina game, so he might have gotten it out of the way. This could be a Best-in-Emerald-Bowl type performance.

So how 'bout Urban Meyer
I think Spencer Hall started drinking with two fists when he heard that Meyer is turning over the team to Addazio until the beginning of next season. This sounds like a fantastically terrible idea.

I don’t understand how a story can go from “I’m stopping coaching so that I can live to see my grandchildren” to “I’m probably going to be on the sidelines to start 2010” in 24 hours. WTF?

“Must be the money!”
Here’s what I think: Meyer probably won’t do much, if any game-to-game coaching, and turn into the face of Florida football for recruiting purposes. In return, Florida hands him a fat paycheck and hauls in top 10 recruiting classes year-by-year. It’ll be similar to the Bowden situation the past half-decade, except successful instead of full of fail.

What could go wrong? (Steve Addazio could be head coach.)

Here are his words from his Twitter
Addazio? Is Urban Meyer going to California w/o telling Sterling Cooper?

Didn’t know where to post this, so I’ll just say it here: the BI board is saying that Alamar has officially been canned.
i'm here to clean your pool but i don't have a pool *bowchica bowow*
Aside from its angry fans, is BI known to be a good source of information?
In any case, if this is true: Yay!

A handful of posters have all independently asserted that he is now, in fact, gone. So I’d say this is most likely legit.

My source is solid. I created a thread about it before this, but I guess that my thread isn’t cool enough for people to comment there.
Some of us don’t want to reveal our sources to a bunch of people that we don’t know, or else we won’t have those sources anymore.

I wish I were cool enough to have sources =(

Even if that’s true, I’ll bet you that Alamar leaves the door open on his way out, allowing a tree sitter to come in and steal Cal football equipment.

Ordinarily, I’d feel bad for any coach getting fired. This, however, would be worthy of the grandest of grand celebrations.
Whose domicile? OUR DOMICILE!
Hell, I felt bad for Tom Holmoe when he was fired. Firing people sucks. I had to do it once, and I never wish to do it again.
That said, it’s pretty clear that Tedford needs to make some changes, and improving special teams, which (sans a couple special talents, like DeSean and Jahvid) has been a decided disappointment for years now, is an obvious place to start.
So, basically, you gotta Go Bears!
Another perspective
Firing people sucks a lot less than keeping bad people….I’ve had to fire many folks over the years and have never lost any sleep, but with the caveat that I knew in my heart that I was doing the right thing for the enterprise…when its right its right, and not to fret over…I only pray that the “sources” on Alamar are right, cause in this it is most certainly the right thing to do…sleep like a baby Ted!

Alamar was never going to succed in the minds of Cal folks anyways – too much baggage. It might be good for him to get somewhere else too.

Technically, when CGB broke the news of Ben Braun’s firing, we were “some dudes with a source”. I guess it all comes down to how much a person reporting via an anonymous source has to lose by being wrong. In the case of posters on message boards with anonymous handles, I’d say “not much”.
So, basically, you gotta Go Bears!
Where’s our source???

If it’s true it will take away one of the arguments of the ‘crazy fire Tedford’ people: That Tedford is loyal to a fault and refuses to let go ineffective coaches.

Doubtful
They’ll just say he should’ve been fired years ago. I’m guessing they want Gregory’s head too.

Oh God ESPN’s brought back that terrible (country singer who I can’t be assed to remember) song.

Looks like the BCS Black Caucus will expand by another member, since Rich Brooks is likely to retire and has already named offensive coordinator Joker Phillips as successor.
