I know Cal‘s a school where I’d really have to apply myself but I just I just have the impression that, not only am I going to be happier and more satisfied there, also I know I’d be able to concentrate more and be able to take care of my work more reliably there.
It’s a great vibe for me up there. I love it.
Running back Trajuan Briggs's (Birmingham High in Van Nuys) comments on his commitment to Cal. Briggs decommitted from USC earlier this morning and gave his commitment to be a Golden Bear. (HT MinerNiner and AERose for the updates!)

Suck $C
If Carroll spent more time on campus and less time with that grad student in Malibu, he wouldn’t be losing recruits.

To be fair
Briggs was not a high priority for the Trojans. They’ve already gotten commits from Dillon Baxter and D.J. Morgan, and are still pursuing Seastrunk.

love that name, Seastrunk
What did i tell you...didn't I say they would win? Yeah that's right I did didn't ? Wait.. what? They LOST?!?!?
Charlie Weis also said that Notre Dame would have a decided schematic advantage.
Just saying that you might want to consider the reliability of the source.
yeah, but it's got good potential meme/joke-ness.

Okay, we get it. We're stacked at RB.
Are we recruiting some good future WRs? I fully understand that we’re aiming to be the next “Running Back U” (or at least the West Coast version of it with Miami still holding that title) but we gotta be a little more fleshed out on offense outside of QB and RB.

I am! It's just most news about recruits on offense lately has been future RBs or QBs.
I am ecstatic with all of today’s news, especially the fact that we nabbed these guys away from some rather prestigious programs.
All I’m wondering about is whether we’ll have another DJax coming our way in the future or not.

DJax is probably one of a kind
But Starvin Marvin Jones was tagged as the next DeSean when he signed w/ Cal. He’ll probably never get to DeSean-like levels of awesomeness, but I’ve been very happy with his performance this year. If Lagemann can continue to develop and if Calvin can beat his case of the drops we’re going to be better than OK for the next 2-3 years

Lagemann can at least already catch the ball – he just has the most non-existent YAC evair.
CGB: Wasting Your Potential, Your Time, & Your Life Since 2006.
Lagemann always played slot receiver and slant routes or in routes. Since he was always a possession receiver he’d always get hit as soon as he got the ball…cuz there was always a LB in the middle. He never ran deep routes and often times he had to dive to catch the balls Riley through.
He never got a chance to showcase YAC bc of his role in the offense. Just my 2 cents (aka i’m not ready to say Lagemann can’t get YAC)
It does always seem like he’s always off of his feet when he’s catching the ball. With that said, he IS catching the ball. This cannot be under-valued these days. I would rather have a guy diving and catching balls with no YAC than some guy standing and dropping balls.
Wes Welker catches balls from Tom Brady. And also is Wes Welker.

I know – obviously expecting Lagemann to be like Welker is saying he should be the best slot receiever in CFB, so it’s a little unrealistic, I’m just trying to point out that slot guys should be getting at least some YAC. To become a legitimately good receiever (for CFB) Lagemann is going to have to do that better than he has so far.

The only one 5 star left on the board considering is Stills
Right now we do have Carter, Harper and Dunn locked up, so we’ll see. Guess it depends on how you feel about those guys.

I haven’t looked at the entire recruiting list yet, only what has been posted on here.

I don't know why I said locked up
But we have three wide receiver commits from much earlier this year.

No, you are correct. Tedford keeps most of his recruits locked in Memorial Stadium where he breaks them down and turns them into robots.

USC’s recruiting dominance is crazy. When I saw that Briggs was a 3 star recruit my first thought was “USC offered a 3 star? That seems low for them.”
The #1 greatest threat to America: BEARS
yeah, 3 stars for Briggs seems kind of low. Maybe i’m just looking through blue colored glasses, but he makes people miss.
hopefully more recruits to commit this week
apparently we had a big weekend recruiting-wise, as JT had emphasized beforehand that this past weekend would be devoted to recruiting
What did i tell you...didn't I say they would win? Yeah that's right I did didn't ? Wait.. what? They LOST?!?!?
Don’t worry about the stars. Look at their production at the high school level. I wonder how many stars Chris Manderino was? Or Pain Train? I think Mike Mohamed was a two star…
Living down here in LA, I do know that Trajuan is a very good player.

Awesome
I’m not worried about our class at all. Tedford’s a late closer and we always seem to get a kra-zee recruit out of nowhere at the last minute.
O-Line Recruits
I worked with O-Line again this weekend, so I saw some of the recruits. I didn’t recognize any, because I don’t follow recruiting that closely, but they all seemed to be having a good time. Our guys were joking around and having a lot of fun, and Coach Marshall was in fine form. One of the recruits asked me “Is it like this every day?” “Yup, it is.” We’ll see if we get more commitments from those guys.
I've been Honked...
We need you to step up your recruiting game. We need you to just promote Cal over and over and over. And don’t honk anymore. I cannot be clearer on that. Do not honk anybody!

I wonder when recruit will start looking at coaches more than the program
A vast majority of Tedford’s recruits have gotten significantly better as they go through the program (Riley and Longshore excluded) while many of Carroll’s recruits have regressed while at USC (especially offensive ones).
BTW: I believe Mr. Suh from Nebraska was rated three stars…he turned out pretty good.
Riley has gotten better. So did Longshore. It’s delusional to think otherwise.
www.californiagoldenblogs.com
I guess I was think about where they would end up...
I believe both Riley and Longshore were extremely highly touted. ..
I’m not entirely sure how touted Longshore was, per se, but I do remember that he was supposed to backup Ayoob. He was never supposed to start in 2006 ever.
President Emperor Warlord Of The Sun!
www.CaliforniaGoldenBlogs.com
Huh?
Longshore was a four-star recruit (according to both Rivals and Scout) and the heir apparent to Aaron Rodgers going into the 2005 season. The only reason he didn’t start in 2005 was a season-ending injury in the first game, which lead to Ayoob, who had only been on campus for weeks prior to the start of the season, being more or less thrown out to start in desperation.
Unless I’m missing something entirely?
Riley was a respectable recruit but his best offers were from Boise and Oregon State, so you can draw your own conclusions from that.

(By respectable recruit I mean a top 100 get according to Rivals. I guess Beaverton was too much of a backwater for many other big-school scouts to see him? Or he just committed to Cal early and in doing so scared off any other offers? I dunno. Scout had him considerably lower—the #16 quarterback as opposed to the #2.)

Firstly, I meant to write 2005, not 2006. My mistake.
Secondly, Ayoob was designed to start 2005, IIRC. Wasn’t he a 5 star coming in? Wikipedia shows how amazing he was at CCSF:
Ayoob helped lead the school to a 23-1 record over his two season, winning a national championship (12-0) in 2003. In 2004, he was named the state’s community college Offensive Player of the year by the JC Athletic Bureau/California Community College Football Coaches Association. He earned First-team JC Gridwire All-America after completing 61.3% (217-of-354) of his passes for 3,679 yards and 35 touchdowns in 2004. He ranked #1 in the state in passing efficiency (177.5) and led the most prolific junior-college offense in California (500.1 yards-per-game). SuperPrep rated him the #2 junior college player in the nation in its postseason JuCo 100. Rivals.com ranked him #15 on its national JC list. He helped lead his team to an 11-1 record, with the team’s only loss, a 39-32 loss to College of the Canyons in the California state championship game. He was named the Offensive Player of the Game in loss, as he threw for 386 yards and four touchdowns and also rushed for 62 yards on seven carries. In his two seasons at CCSF, he completed 352-of-571 pass attempts (61.6%) for 5,790 yards and 55 touchdowns while rushing for an additional nine touchdowns. He also won the MVP award in the state championship game in each of his two seasons.
My memory of the situation was that Ayoob was designed to start, but over the course of the 2005 summer, we kept hearing reports that Longshore wasn’t that far off. And that then they were even. And that Longshore had pulled ahead. Surprising at the time.

Designed to start might be putting it strong, but I’ll grant that Ayoob was most certainly not brought in to be Longshore’s backup.

Someone shoulda told Ayoob that, then:
“There’s a little frustration, because I was supposed to come in and be the starter,” said Ayoob, who will hold for placekicks.

I agree, someone should’ve told Ayoob that!
(Yeah, missed that part. Man, Tedford really whiffed on this one. I wonder why?)

It says in the article that Ayoob played well but lacked “consistency” and “work ethic.” The rumor was he became a stoner when he got to Cal. Not sure if thats the truth, but it certainly woulda explained a lack of consistency and work ethic!

You’d figure if a guy was going to become a stoner in college he’d start at CCSF, but hey anything’s possible!

Ayoob definitely was supposed to come in and be the starter. But it was very clear on his first day of practice that he wasn’t ready – he was awful that day.
