Harper Kamp likely to redshirt, Theo out for New Mexico
This is potentially devastating news for the Bears and especially for Kamp, who has never recovered fully from knee surgery. It almost certainly means a heavier workload for the starters, especially Boykin, and more minutes for Max and Amoke.
MSF, Jorge and Omondi all have been suffering from the flu, but are expected to play Wednesday.

Very unfortunate news. At least the basketball non-conference schedule is less important than football

It annoyed me during the games at MSG to hear the play by play guy (Dan Shulman?) keep calling us “the favorite to win the Pac-10” without qualification. This is SO not the team that was picked as the Pac-10 favorite. Without Theo and Kamp, we can still be good, but certainly not to the level we could be with those guys.
Losing Kamp for the season will be a big loss. But if we can really get Theo back before Pac-10 play begins, and get everybody healthy again otherwise, we can still have a really good team.
Praise be to Tedford!

Yeah, Kamp being out for a time was going to let Max and MSF get valuable minutes and experience… I don’t know how much they are gonna be able to develop in order to carry the load for the rest of this year though if Kamp redshirts.

If we get Theo back for Iowa State, that’s a win. Randle and PChris will just have to carry us in the scoring department in New Mexico.

I have to say I kind of saw Kamp’s redshirt coming. He was at the game Sunday, but he seemed very disengaged. When the team would huddle up, he stayed much further back than he would usually. And his body language told the same story. I thought it was because of the holiday…but it looks like he already knew he wouldn’t be playing on this team.

That must be so demoralizing – thinking all offseason that you’re going to be a key rotation member of a potentially special team and just never being able to get healthy. I feel for the guy.

I think this lowers our ceiling a good deal nationally.

All about the Pac-10 baby. At least, that’ll be my focus. Anything in March is a glorious bonus.

Drew Gordon left UCLA? That helps. Was it a bad fit or was it character issues?

Probably a combo. I don’t get the sense that Gordon’s some sort of serious cancer. Probably just too strong willed to play with a coach who seems like a bit of a control-freak-my-way-or-the-highway type (and I mean that in the best possible way cause Howland clearly knows what he’s doing).

Saw it coming
Kamp could barely jump last year— that he was able to play basketball at all, much less on a high level, is a testament to his court IQ. As soon as I heard he was out to start the year, I lost much hope of him contributing this season.
Not sure there’s much hope for winning tomorrow, either. New Mexico is almost unbeatable at home at the best of times— that’s why big conference teams normally (not sure what Monty was thinking scheduling this one) don’t go there… with Robertson I’d say it was 50-50, without him the odds are far worse.
