Putting Jahvid Best's Injury into Perspective You Can't Question his Heart
When an injury occurs to a player fans get curious to see just how brutal the injury actually was. You can almost find any clip of a player being injured on Yahoo. In fact Yahoo Sports just had an article titled " The 10 Most Brutal Injuries of the Last Decade" written by Greg Wyshynski.
In the article you'll find the injury to Richard Zednik who was inadvertently cut in the carotid artery by a teammates skate and you will also find the clip of Trent McCleary being hit in the throat with a puck as he attempted to block a shot.
So, it's easy too see that fans of the game are curious to see what actually happened when there's a breaking news in regards to a player whether it's college or professional. In this case it happened to be in college football.
You will find on the front page Yahoo Sports the article titled "Cal RB Best Taken to Emergency Room." That title alone is an attention grabber so you'll read about the event or at least try to find the clip on Youtube.
Which you can find the clip here of Jahvid Best's horrific injury. It's one of the more scarier injuries you'll see in a game. You heard from the clip that I don't know who it was for ESPN who stated this "when you see his arms extended like that the medical term is called posturing and it means that the brain has lost contact with the body."
Now, the question becomes did Best really have to jump to get into the end zone because if you look at some of the comments being made either on Youtube or on the article on the front page, you will find that question.
I think it's incredibly hard to pass judgement on Best for jumping to score the touchdown. At that moment the Bears were already trailing 14-0 and needed to score a touchdown.
Best was doing all that he could to get the Bears the six points. It's not Best hasn't jumped and dived for a touchdown before this year either. I don't see anyone complaining about it. Here's an example from the game in Minnesota. Best dives into the end zone for the touchdown.
Questioning the play made by Best isn't going to help anyone. The most important thing is the health of Best. He made a great play with great effort, but the end result was catastrophic.
Best wasn't trying to show off on the play, he was just trying to get the Bears on the scoreboard and he felt that if he jumped he was going to score no matter what. If he didn't maybe he felt like the Oregon State defense could stop him just short.
It also didn't help that the Beaver defender pushed him, which helped propel him even higher in the air and because of this he was off balance so he couldn't really land on his feet.
Also, hindsight is usally 20-20 and I think no matter how you look at the play there's no doubt that Best is going to give his all out effort and he was just doing what he felt was best for the team.
I don't think it's right to question the motives of Best on the play. In my mind Best was clearly trying to score that touchdown anyway possible. I guarantee you if it meant diving instead of jumping, he would have been diving to the end zone.
You saw Best diving earlier in the game when he was stopped in the backfield, but before he went down he dove forward to get the Bears a first down.
Second guessing Best isn't going to help. The only thing that really matters is that Best recovers from the concussion and gets to 100 percent.
The opinions expressed in a FanPost are, in every way, reflective of the opinions of every California Golden Blogs Marshawnthusiast. Moreover, they are reflective of every employee of SBNation, including Tyler "Blez" Bleszinski.

Honestly, it bothers me to see the vitriol directed Rocky’s way. For two main reasons:
1. It always bothers me to see things that could lead to potential flame wars and certainly telling somebody to “get the fuck out” could lead that way. It’s my mod hat talking.
2. It lacks creativity. Get the fuck out? Did I just move to New Jersey or something? C’mon people, give me something good to work with. A well-placed sarcastic quip can really get the job done.
I think, though, the reason that people are so upset is because they do not believe Rocky is arguing in good faith. They believe he has what I like to call Colin Cowherd Syndrome. Pick a controversial position. Proclaim it over and over and over again for attention. So, them, it is less about the message and more and about the messenger. Anything Rocky writes is instantly devalued and discredited.
Also, posting a rant against the Defensive Coordinator something like 40 minutes after a player was nearly paralyzed on the field has won him few recruits.

This post really is just plain awful. I propose after this comment, no one else comments, so it will fall off the page and not be as bothersome.

Posts don’t jump to the top of the page based on recent comments. The only way this will fall off the page is if 10 more fanposts are made.

Hey guys
If you want to see less fanposts like this, POST YOUR OWN. We’re not going to start deleting fanposts, even badly written ones with questionable opinions. This is a place for public expression. Drown out the noise.

Calm down with the hating, please.
I’m with Twist on this one If you were just trolls who logged in to complain, fine, it happens(though it would still need to be stemmed). You guys are around here every day, you know how it is, why all the hate? Someone posts something you don’t like, you deal with it in a civilized manner.
This post wasn’t particularly mean or spiteful, no one got called out or anything like that – it’s just someone voicing an opinion, and that’s what fanposts are for. No, I didn’t read the previous posts that he wrote, apparently something about after Best was hurt, but let’s try to rise above, ok? If you don’t like it, feel free to speak your mind in a conversational manner, but this kind of vitriol has no place here.
I didn’t real everything, I know, I don’t have all the details, but my point stands. Let’s try to rise above.

The real problem with this fanpost is he wrote it for somewhere else and copied and pasted it here. It is clearly just an attempt to get more people to read his poorly-written articles. If you’re going to do that, at least remove the parts explaining to CAL FANS what happened in a game they all watched.

Agreed. His name is Steve and I’m not going to link to his site b/c that’s what he wants. I always thought he was a cool guy, but I don’t know this Steve. He’s becoming an attention whore and actually enjoying it. The more attention he gets, whether negative or positive, is all good for him. I don’t know who he is anymore. Plus posting that Gregory rant shortly after Jahvid’s injury was a dick move, period. I want the old Steve back.

Great, we’re getting this dreck reposted from somewhere else? I mean, it was easy to find where on the internet Rocky63215 came from, but now I will just regard these posts as spam.
by paleodan on Nov 9, 2009 10:15 AM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Yeah, I guess you’re right. This is spam. If he just came out and said, “Hey this is an article I wrote for XXXX, hope you enjoy my site,” then fine. It’s all good. However, he’s using a false identity like Rocky651465 or whatever and posting rants (and not his analysis) to get maximum attention. Sure,it’s negative attention, but attention, nonetheless. That’s pretty sleazy.
by danzig on Nov 9, 2009 10:22 AM PST up reply actions 0 recs
It’s not a “false identity” – most of the people on CGB, including you and I, don’t post under their real names. Yeah this guy is a hack, but I don’t think people should be trying to “out” him.

It’s more like hypocritical identification. If I all of a sudden start posting under some other name with the same opinions as my main character, aren’t I posing a charade across the internet?
The fact of the matter is, he’s posted his opinions under what’s presumably his real identity. And then he’s posted it here under something else. When you do that on the internet, somebody is going to put the pieces together. And if you truly don’t want to be “outed”, you can’t rely on the politeness of internet society to do so.
That being said, if he hadn’t pissed everybody off, none of this would even come up. Though the topic of internet identies and the ethics behind all of this seems like a very interesting OT topic on its own.

If CGB were to delete this FanPost, we would be hypocrites. Yes, the author also posted his thoughts somewhere else, but he is not unique in this regard. The fact is, BerkeleySportsBlog has been doing the same thing with his interviews of former Cal soccer players for several months now (posting on both his own blog and here), and not only has no one complained, but people have generally rec’d his thoughts, and CGB mods have worked with the author so that he could get his posts up on our front page. CGB has become fairly well-read within the online Cal community, and we recognize that it’s often easier to write FanPosts here rather than build credibility and readership slowly over on an independent blog. That the author is posting his thoughts in more than one location is not, in and of itself, a problem, and I have no problem with people who take the time to write out their thoughts regarding Cal Football wanting to reach a wider audience.
Beyond that, there are reasons we might delete a FanPost. Copyright violation is a big one, as is spamming. There are a few other guidelines explained in our Community Guidelines and FAQ posts. However, just because you disagree with a post or think it is poorly-written is not a reason for us to delete it. Instead, argue with the author or ignore him as you choose.
So, basically, you gotta Go Bears!

But he didn’t cite his sources! Neither a link to the original post nor any admission that it’s a post which was written for another blog that is being shared over here (what BSB does). It’s not a horrible thing, but I feel like not doing either of those is misrepresenting the post. I don’t know if that’s a proper conclusion, though.

I’d rather this post stay up so people can become better acquainted with Rocky and have a better opinion (good or bad) of him than it go down, people miss it and we do this dance all over again. Especially since Im white, so I suck at dancing.
