Sigh. I don’t want to second guess the team-doctors or anything but this is one of those things that just NEED to be studied more carefully. Jahvid is a gamer and the problem with gamers (and most athletes) is that they always claim that they’re fine. We seriously need more objective, dependent, measures of recovery post-concussion.
Damn it.
by Mister Pie on Nov 7, 2009 6:00 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Just speculation
But there are objective measures of concussions developed, Jahvid may have passed all of them. But that doesn’t mean the criteria are any good.

JO's updates are probably the most reliable ones
I am turning off all other sources now.
The preliminary report on Jahvid Best is that he has movement in all his extremities and has been diagnosed with a concussion. Cal hopes to have more information on his condition by the end of the game.
by coolingfan on Nov 7, 2009 6:00 PM PST reply actions 0 recs
In all, I’m glad that it’s “just” another concussion. Some of the things I saw on TV were reminding me of some super scary things I’ve just been learning about in medical school.
Get well soon, Jahvid.

It’s a crappy place to rely on news and I don’t believe we can confirm this (because we won’t know until they further assess the severity of the concussion), but a comment on Miller’s blog says Tedford said he was moving his limbs, concussed, and will be missing the rest of the season.

To back up what Mr. Pie was saying earlier
I am also a med student, thus the name, and I looked up concussions. The “Second impact syndrome” is something that can happen to someone who suffers a concussion so soon after his first. Its the same reason they take people with concussions out of the game, and for the same reason that boxers are most likely to have this occur to them. It is serious and often fatal but rare.
The are guidelines against taking players out for the season after multiple concussions and i think the current guidelines suggest 3. However it is still up to the discretion of the team and doctors I suppose.
All prayers for Best right now and I hope everything comes out okay.

Man feels like the refs are really helping oregon st today with reviews.
Or maybe I’m still pissed/saddened by what happened to Best and it’s affecting my perception of the game.

Damn
Our defense makes every opponent quarterback look so good, including WSU’s freshman QB whose name I forget.

Canfield is really good, though. He’s something like 6th in the nation in PER

If you like this game...
You’ll love the game against Arizona. That guys Foles has a 70 percent completion average.

Definitely Looks Like They Gameplanned For Rodgers' Plays
by KikiRevenge on Nov 7, 2009 6:44 PM PST reply actions 0 recs
We seem to have done a pretty good job on the Rodgers
But the Beavs are still in total control of this game. Canfield is good.
Praise be to Tedford!
