It was posted on the 3rd Q post

Tedford says Best is moving his “moving parts” and that it might be a concussion

another? when was 1st?

by YleeXOtee on Nov 7, 2009 5:56 PM PST up reply actions

Sigh. I don’t want to second guess the team-doctors or anything but this is one of those things that just NEED to be studied more carefully. Jahvid is a gamer and the problem with gamers (and most athletes) is that they always claim that they’re fine. We seriously need more objective, dependent, measures of recovery post-concussion.

Damn it.

by Mister Pie on Nov 7, 2009 6:00 PM PST up reply actions

Just speculation

But there are objective measures of concussions developed, Jahvid may have passed all of them. But that doesn’t mean the criteria are any good.

MCCLESKEY!!

It Didn't Really Hit Me

Until I saw Jahvid’s mom on the field. I can’t imagine what she’s going through.

She wasn’t on the ground crying, but she looked very very :(

If its only a concussion

Thank God for that. I pray for him from Oregon.

JO's updates are probably the most reliable ones

I am turning off all other sources now.

The preliminary report on Jahvid Best is that he has movement in all his extremities and has been diagnosed with a concussion. Cal hopes to have more information on his condition by the end of the game.

by coolingfan on Nov 7, 2009 6:00 PM PST reply actions

In all, I’m glad that it’s “just” another concussion. Some of the things I saw on TV were reminding me of some super scary things I’ve just been learning about in medical school.

Get well soon, Jahvid.

by Mister Pie on Nov 7, 2009 6:02 PM PST up reply actions

What aer these super scary things?

by Shadwhand on Nov 7, 2009 6:02 PM PST up reply actions

Although this is only Wikipedia, the info here is pretty accurate:

by Mister Pie on Nov 7, 2009 6:04 PM PST up reply actions

It’s a crappy place to rely on news and I don’t believe we can confirm this (because we won’t know until they further assess the severity of the concussion), but a comment on Miller’s blog says Tedford said he was moving his limbs, concussed, and will be missing the rest of the season.

Whose domicile? OUR DOMICILE!

by Berkelium97 on Nov 7, 2009 6:04 PM PST reply actions

All that is true except for the “missing the rest of the season” part. That is a safe bet, but Tedford didn’t say anything.

by Tedfordisgod on Nov 7, 2009 6:05 PM PST up reply actions

Right. I’m thinking the last part is all speculation for now, if Tedford even said it.

Whose domicile? OUR DOMICILE!

by Berkelium97 on Nov 7, 2009 6:06 PM PST up reply actions

To back up what Mr. Pie was saying earlier

I am also a med student, thus the name, and I looked up concussions. The “Second impact syndrome” is something that can happen to someone who suffers a concussion so soon after his first. Its the same reason they take people with concussions out of the game, and for the same reason that boxers are most likely to have this occur to them. It is serious and often fatal but rare.

The are guidelines against taking players out for the season after multiple concussions and i think the current guidelines suggest 3. However it is still up to the discretion of the team and doctors I suppose.

All prayers for Best right now and I hope everything comes out okay.
