Beaver with Sour Cream

I don't know about you guys, but I often enjoy beaver on the weekends.
This is your open thread for Cal-Chico State. After the jump, some details on tonight's exhibition matchup.
Farudo helps us out with how to see the game.
Tonight’s exhibition game is not being carried over KFRC-1550 AM. But fans can pick it up through CBS online, with Roxy Bernstein and Tom McKim calling the action, as usual. You can find the link at the bottom of this Cal news release.
Here's the All-Access video link, although I think you have to pay for Cal All-Access, $8 or something a month. You can cancel it at your lesiure; there are a few more non-televised games on Cal hoops the rest of the season though. You can also listen to the game on Chico State radio.
For people who want something free, there might be a link to the scoreboard feed later on sans play-by-play. If it's available, we'll post it in the comments close to tipoff, look out for it.
As for Chico State, here's a quick look at their team. A direct contrast to Cal with four returning senior starters, Chico State has a bunch of hoopsters who'll be playing together for the first time.
Flores is one of many new faces on the Chico State team that has been picked to finish eighth in the 12-team California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Coaches’ Poll. The Wildcats were 8-19 last season, but only three players from that team will be in uniform against Cal – Zach Graves, Roderick Hawkins, and Nick Lonnegren. Chris Sharp will miss the game and may miss the entire year with a broken foot, and Joshua Jackson is redshirting this season.
Flores, a sophomore transfer from Sonoma State, and freshmen Ethan Stone, Spencer Moyer, Damario Sims, Jake Lovisolo, Powell Lee, and Cameron Fenley each joined the program last season and redshirted. Brian Seals, Darren Nye, Jason Conrad, and Terence Pellum transferred in this year. Jon Baird returns after a two-year hiatus for his senior season.
Here's some video of them in practice.
As for the university itself, I'm sure they have fine institutions...but, well...
Come on, you didn't think I was going to end this without displaying the kicking Chico night life?
Secondary focus to the game: Relate your Chico State anecdotes.

My one Chico St. story would take a long time to type out, but parts of the story involve people yelling at me to wake up at 2:00 a.m. because “you don’t fucking sleep in Chico on a Saturday night!”, people getting peed at, and trying to sleep on a lawn when the sprinklers are going off before relocating to the hardest hardwood floor known to man. And I didn’t drink a drop of liquor that night either.
The #1 greatest threat to America: BEARS
Faculty votes to hate on every Cal sports except for men’s basketball and football. I don’t know why these athletes hate women’s soccer and volleyball, but I guess they must.
The campus Academic Senate on Thursday voted 91-68 in favor of a nonbinding resolution calling for an end to campus support of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and requiring a plan for paying back loans already made.
Berkeley officials say the department generates about 89 percent of its budget through ticket sales, corporate sponsorships, television rights fees, fundraising and endowment income.
Although the resolution is symbolic, Chancellor Robert Birgeneau said after the meeting he will work on developing a plan to reduce costs and get the department on a self-supporting basis.
He said he could not give a timeline on when that might happen.

I'll Support this
When they also cut the money for all the other things they use student fees for that I don’t personally use such as keeping the library open until 2am, opening the gym at 6am, funding for the hundreds of student groups that I don’t participate in, etc, etc.
Bottom line is that the argument that student fees shouldn’t be used to fund athletics because not all students benefit is bunk unless they are consistent about it. Somehow I doubt the faculty supports cutting student fee money from the library because not all students use them though.

I bought the all-access last year, used it once, and then upgraded my browser and it no longer worked, because the software was too stupid to check to see that my version was greater than that required, only that it was not equal to that required. I was sorely disappointed.
Canceling was quite easy, however, so there’s that.
So, basically, you gotta Go Bears!
I need a beer.
But I’m working until 11 tonight, so a soda will have to suffice.
Damn.

Avi, just to let you know for future recruit posts: Tevin Carter was just offered by USC, but he remains committed to Cal and isn’t sure exactly what position wants him at either. He loves a lot of things about Cal. But a USC offer is always a big thing, you know.

Thanks for the heads up, shall add it into the recruiting thread.

Harper Kamp was in street clothes at the game last night. He had Sanders-Frison’s ear the whole time, though, so Kamp was having some impact on the game.

Absolutely useless foul by Max
C’mon Max. If you’re going to get a foul on the offensive rebound, at least make it because you’re crashing the boards!
Praise be to Tedford!
I’m still so split whether or not to get student tickets.
It’ll be a good season, no doubt, but I also enjoy delicious food.
18 to Cheeseboard
I can’t emphasize how much if you’re able to purchase student tickets, you should buy them.
I just found the money today to buy Young Alumni Season Tickets.

after so many years of the braun era, it’s a weird feeling to feel excited about cal basketball again.
i'm here to clean your pool but i don't have a pool *bowchica bowow*
You know, I think it was only the last few years where I was no longer excited. Powe’s final year definitely had its moments (they did go into the final weekend with a chance to win the conference by sweeping the LA schools), and the Shipp/Whethers teams at the beginning of the decade were sooo much better than the football teams that Tom Holmoe was fielding.
So, basically, you gotta Go Bears!
agreed
I should’ve clarified that. Braun had his moments earlier on, and yes the Powe years were interesting too. But by and large I’d label Braun’s tenure as “average,” or “middling.”
i'm here to clean your pool but i don't have a pool *bowchica bowow*
Relentless rebounding, too. Granted, the competition isn’t very good (and they seem to be intimidated by Cal), but it’s still nice to see.
Praise be to Tedford!
Chico can rebound pretty well.

Shit.. and a huge recruit (who transferred from Indiana, I believe) is on the Detroit team we play in our 2nd game. Some definite speed bumps in those first two opponents.

Damn, all three of our first mid-low major opponents are dangerous teams — third on the list is Jacksonvile — saw them play last year. Scary close to beating FSU, Georgia Tech, and Baylor

Ah excellent. It’s good to have tough opponents to start. Gets the team ready for the conference grind.

But you gotta play tough teams early, right? Seems like during the Braun era, we’d rack up 10 wins over lesser teams and be behind the curve when conference play began.

So, 1 guy versus Randle, PC, and Theo. We’re all Cal fans, so we’re all a little pessimistic. But, if you believe Cal is a Pac-10 contender, you shouldn’t worry about these two.
It'll be just you, me, and Peter Nincompoop.
Man do I miss college. That’s all I can think about when I see the student section.

Sanders-Frison kind of reminds me of Kendrick Perkins.
At least offensively. Not sure about his defense.

It’s been my dream to wear 3-5 red shirts on top of a blue Cal jersey to any Cal sporting event and incite a billion ‘take off that red shirts’ until i finally get to the bottom layer
Has this been done?

Got back from the game a little while ago
I was about 5 feet away from Jahvid Best! I was at the left end of The Bench, where apparently a bunch of athletes were sitting. There were other football players (I didn’t recognize any others), and some female students who were friends with the football players (I presume they were other athletes). Jahvid was on his iPhone texting most of the time and left at halftime, and I didn’t get to talk to him… I wanted to ask him how his head was feeling, lol.
Giorgio Tavecchio yesterday, Jahvid today… Who will I see tomorrow, Kevin Riley?
