If you're going to run Wildcat again,
then give it some variation! Either give it to Solefe or make a throw. What’s the point of doing all the play action, if Vereen’s going to keep it all the time?
Shit’s dumb. They need another year or two of running it to put in enough wrinkles

Something that might be interesting to look at is what percentage of our TDs happen inside the red zone, and how many from outside.
For some reason I have the image that we suck inside the red zone. Maybe it’s just from the past few games though…
Should be easily researched, but now’s obviously not the time.

Thing about Vereen...
He’s not faster than Best in open space. A Jaguar isn’t faster than Best in open space. (Cat or car.) But I think that hitting the line, running inside, Vereen is the more effective runner. And in a game like this, with lots of keep-away and run-the-clock, Shane may just be the guy we need.

2nd half
riley needs to not overthrow it, and when he doesn’t overthrow, our receivers need to catch the ball.
I think it’s more of the last point than on Riley. He’s made a few bad throws, but the receivers really aren’t helping.

by yellow fever on Nov 21, 2009 5:53 PM PST up reply actions
I’ve counted three drops so far (drops being when a ball hits your hands). Riley hasn’t been totally accurate, but if we keep hitting Miller and Lagerman and looking for the big play from Jones… all we need is for Vereen to do his thing and we’ll be in this.
I find that option routes with a RB matched up on a LB almost always work.
Proud to hold season tickets to the only NBA team soon to be owned by a Russian oligarch.
by yellow fever on Nov 21, 2009 5:56 PM PST up reply actions
They’re showing us a ton of zone so I’m really looking for crossing routes from Lagerman and hitting Miller when Riley has protection. I have no complaints with what Vereen has done thus far.
Riley can really thread the ball in those slants and in the middle of the field
I’m impressed

Furd’s scores pretty came from Cal’s one sloppy play and the blocked punt. Overall, we dominated them. As long as we stay disciplined, we will keep the axe.
