College Football Morning Open Thread, Week 7
via lastrow.files.wordpress.com
Saturday Morning Bears. Time to awake from your slumbers and get back to business chowing on salmon.
Morning games
9 AM PST/noon EST
Oklahoma vs Texas, ABC HD
Iowa at Wisconsin, ESPN HD
Northwestern at Michigan State, ESPN2 HD
Georgia at Vanderbilt, CSN Bay Area/SEC Network
Ohio State at Purdue, Big Ten HD
9:30 AM PST/12:30 PM EST
Princeton at Brown, Versus HD
Biggest game of the day is of course the Red River Shootout, which will hand the winner the inside track to the Big 12 title game (do you see Oklahoma or Texas losing two more while the other wins out? There's no Texas Tech to spoil the party with that wacko tiebreaker unless you think Oklahoma State's for real). For Texas, this is the first real test of the season--a rout and we can probably say they're heading for a rendezvous with Florida/Alabama in Pasadena.
That'll only the second most important game that'll be played in the Rose Bowl--behind ours, of course! Pregame/first quarter open thread is 11:30 AM/8:30 AM--go there to discuss Cal! Try and keep discussion of the early games here. Thanks fellas, see you then.

Texas sucks. They need to recruit nationally instead of only in-state early commits. They miss out on the best Texan national recruits so often too (Shepard last year… Seastrunk this year… Adrian Peterson) and only get overhyped Texas prospects. Feeling good about my large Oklahoma +3.5 bet — even if Bradford’s out.

Two Early Notes
1) Oklahoma has been dominating, but needs to a touchdown soon or else their first half effort will be wasted.
2) If Texas continues to play like this, will this game knock McCoy out of the heisman race?

Somethings along the lines of:
if he suffers a career-ending or disabling injury, his insurance coverage will provide him with x amount of dollars. I’d guess at least $100,000, but probably way more.
Basically, you don’t need to feel too bad for him.
Also, he prolly doesn’t need to do all that much to get his mule chugged. He could wander the streets of wherever the fuck Oklahoma is screaming “MY DICK IS DRY! MY DICK IS DRY!” and a stream of attractive college girls would wander out to help him with his emergency situation.

ESPN Gamecast just told me Texas had a 65 yard false start penalty. Dear god, how bad of a false start must it have been to be punished 65 yards.
Gamecast drives me insane. Half the time when you try to look at drive charts they have touchdown drives ending at the 25 yard line and twice as many turnovers registered than actually happened.

I hate betting their games. They can run up 60 or totally crap on you.

Purdue gives, Purdue takes
Another field goal makes it 26-10. Real smartie, that Tressel is.

So, after watching this, should undefeated Texas get in the NCG over a one loss-SEC team or USC or Virginia Tech?
Yes. Undefeated is undefeated.

Unfortunately.
I don’t think they’ll go undefeated though. Even if the conference is weaker this year.

It could be interesting, though, Texas’ may not play a ranked team all year.
by Tedfordisgod on Oct 17, 2009 12:07 PM PDT up reply actions
They’ll probably play the Huskers in the Big 12 title game.

by Avinash Kunnath on Oct 17, 2009 12:08 PM PDT up reply actions
That is true, but they won’t be ranked high enough that a loss to Texas in that game would keep them in the rankings.
I don’t think it has ever happen that a NCG team would not have faced a single team in the pre-bowl game final Top 25.

OK State and Kansas may be ranked— as ‘meh’ as they may be
