The rumor currently floating around is that oft-injured uber-OLinejokester Mike Tepper has been granted a 6th year of eligibility. This appears to stem solely from his Facebook status, which reads as follows:

"Mike Tepper
will be coming back to Berkeley for a 6th year! Fuck yes!!

Maybe he's just happy that he is going to finally get that triple major in astronomy that he always wanted, but it could also mean that he's referring to football eligibility. Just wanted to put that out there, because as blogs it's our jobs to report any and all rumor slash innuendo as rock hard fact. Go us!

also…is Tepper actually healthy? Does anyone know? Does JO still have a job? Does JO even work?

I would suggest sending him a Facebook message.

Just copying what I wrote since it'll be lost in the DBD

Tepper or Schwartz will probably battle it out for left tackle, with the loser taking right tackle;
Boskovich and Cheadle will most likely start at the guards, Guarnero at center; Edwards, Laird and Teofilo would be the backups there. That’s a not too shabby 8 olinemen. Also Galas and Rigsbee and Summers-Gavin might be in the mix for PT.

Add in Siddoway, Schwenke and Brazinski who will be all set for 2010 and ready to redshirt if need be. That is solid depth.

CBKWit and Hydro will probably have a better idea of how the pieces will fit together.

Tepper is the most out-of-shape college athlete I’ve ever laid eyes on. I hope he hasn’t been away too long. I don’t know if he’ll be one of our top 5 OL next year, and the top 5 start. He could be the quality back-up for either T… that’s for sure.

I sincerely hope he regains his form because he is a quality gentleman and will provide some nice leadership for our younger squad.

He does appear out of shape. But I’m ready to give the guy a break considering he threw himself in front of a car to protect some girl. He’s also a very nice guy from my history knowing him.

Medical Issues/Eligibility

Can someone explain with some rules/regulations behind the 6th (25th if your Al Grigsby) year of eligibility. If you don’t redshirt, can you get a 5th year of eligibility? Why did Tepper get it and not Schneider (hurt all of 07)? Is it because Tepper missed a large part chunk of time earlier in his career due to injuries?

This was posted on cyberbears from Gus Tepper:

"I can confirm that coach Tedford called him yesterday to give him the good news. He called me around 3:30 yesterday and let me know. He was at Disneyland at the time with his friends when the call came.

I couldn’t be happier!
Go Bears.

P.S. Also, he’s down to 312 and has been working out all season. He has been running between 5 and 9 miles a day. The injury healed well and he should be in great shape for next season."

Two things
1. Looks like Tepper getting a 6th yr. is more than pure speculation
2. So much for calling Tepper the most “out of shape” college athlete of this century

Thanks for the update!

Please disregard the above ramblings as those of a clearly delusional fan.
