Cal @ ucla Recap
Cal lost. Ucla won. Ucla is better than us at theater and men's basketball. We are better than ucla at almost everything else. There's your recap. Happy? Me neither. Drunk? Me too.
Go Bears.

I don't know what game you were watching
The Cal/UCLA game I went to kicked ass. There was drama, there was intrigue, there was a win that kept us undefeated in Pac-10 play.

Some random play in the first half (Check out how awesome my seat is btw)

Natasha Vital hits a free throw

Coach Boyle rallies the troops. Kevin Morrison isn’t into being photographed

Lauren Greif rains down the… grief on fUCLA

Natasha hit this girl so hard lightning struck inside Haas
In the end, good times had by ALL.

Well THAT sucked
Okay, I’m not sure if I’m referring to this post or the game last night. Probably the game because those turnovers do look kinda yummy. Of course, Ucla was probably saying the same thing last night.
Ah well, we have a chace at redemption on Saturday. A split in LA would be nice.
Mmmm … banana split with fudge and nuts and cherries. Yeah, that sounds about right.
Yeah, well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

admittedly, it was one of my shorter posts
but we just got killed. I didn’t think there was much more to say than that, and I didn’t particularly want to relive all of the messy details. We got rocked, it sucked, move on. As Kittwin put it to me last night, that game didn’t deserve more than 4 sentences.

I don’t know if the people keeping the stats were watching the same game, but being there in person I swear I counted twice the number of turnovers as what were recorded (21). Everytime a Cal player got a pass (if it wasn’t already picked off by UCLA), he immediately had 3 UCLA guys trapping him, causing him to make a bad decision.
Not to mention I swear we made less than half our free throws (even though the stats say like 60) compared to the 90+ that UCLA shot from the line.
It was like watching a junior high school team play against a high school team…….really sloppy. I will not be watching another game this season, either on tv or in person. It was really pathetic.
I left my heart at the Durant Food Court
I agree with you until the last sentence
We hit a high percentage of our free throws at the end of the game; for the first half, I’m pretty sure I counted 4-9, and I think that’s what the stats show. We also had 16 of our 21 turnovers in the first half, almost 1 per minute! In the second half we switched away from the “hand them the ball and watch them lay it in” strategy to the “jack up bad shots and then play no defense” strategy.
It was a horrible game, but I don’t think this team deserves to be written off just yet. Even if they lose today (seems likely), the would finish the first half of Pac-10 play at 5-4. Given the schedule (5 road games, home game against ASU), 5 wins seemed liked the absolute best case scenario before the season began. Sure, 5-4 would be a bit disappointing after a 4-0 start with Stanford and the Oregon schools coming up, but let’s not lose sight of the big picture. This was a team picked to finish 8th, and with a win today they’re in a tie for second halfway home.

What?
We’re 13 minutes away from the Cal women tipping off and there is not yet an open thread posted? I am disappointed. I am glad the game is on television.

Thanks for pointing out that it was on tv. I was just now able to catch the last couple of seconds of the game (literally). Cal barely held on for a 73-71 win. I’m hoping the men’s basketball game will also be televised.
