Cal v. OSU Post-Game Thread
Well, that sucked. Use this thread to discuss the post-game loss against the OSU Beavers by the score of 69-65. I'm so upset, I'm going to go back in time just to vote McCain! Stupid hope and progress!

MVP of this game: President Obama
Clearly he inspired his brother in law to new heights this week. Oregon State to the Final Four!
Honestly, we've been badly outcoached two weeks in a row
and for some reason, Boykin just disappeared.

Do you think Obama made him promise not to mess up the perfect week?
This is my last game, I don't care about my body.

I’m sure Obama was watching that crappy jumbotron feed right along with the rest of us as he was writing up his bailout plan. This might make him feel great!
In the long run this loss will be good for the country as a whole! That’s how I’m rationalizing this one away.

Cal winning was like letting the terrorists win. Thats how Im rationalizing this one.

Quick threadpoll
Where do you guys rank Cal in the Pac-10 now?
Just from the looks of it..
1) UCLA
2) ASU
3) Washington
4) USC
5) Cal (barely; in a 7 game series Cal would probably beat the ’Furd)
6) Stanford
7) Wazzu
8) Arizona
9) Oregon St.
10) Oregon
Not sold on USC, even though they match up so well against us. They are just as erratic as we are in that they can look great on one night and horrible the next (see win vs. ASU and loss vs. Oregon State).

If they go down in Seattle that might drop them below us, but 3-4-5-6 are pretty close together.

Pac-10
Record-wise, I expect to be fourth after tonight.

Epic fail
The game, not your post. After staying up late to watch that, I felt like stabbing myself, too. I refrained from that, but then felt cheated out of a couple of hours of sleep. And then I couldn’t sleep after the game, something that usually happens only after football losses. But this one was that freaking bad — we lost to Oregon State AT HOME for cryin’ out loud.
Epic fail. Epic, epic, epic.
Realizing just how much Aaron Rodgers spoiled us.
Again
I still think we can go 11-7 in conference. I said 3-1 vs Oregon schools. Maybe 2-2 is more feasible at this point, but not really. I expect some adjustments for our trip to Corvallis. I don’t think they’ll shoot so well next time (although our D really helped tonight).
ADVERSITY: WORK THROUGH IT. NO CAL-LAPSE.

Um
Teams that go 2-2 vs the Oregon schools finish 7-11 in the Pac-10, not 11-7.
Certainly Cal SHOULD win all three remaining games, but then again they were 49:1 favorites to win this game and they didn’t, so…eh?

Well
Vegas lines are always just reflections of public opinion, not insider information. There is no way any team in the Pac-10 should be 50:1 favorites against another team. Maybe UCLA vs. OSU, but that’s about it.
I made predictions earlier, and I’ll stick to them. This team has talent and just really needs to be coached properly. The last two games have not reflected that.

Remember too that
the worst we can do is split against Arizona and Washington schools. In my predictions, I had 3-1 Oregon, 3-1 Washington, 2-2 LA, 1-1 Furd, 2-2 Zona
What of that doesn’t seem feasible at all?

That ratio was from kenpom.com, not Vegas
I don’t know or, especially, care about what the Vegas line is. Pomeroy knows what he’s doing though.
I’d say the team still projects to win 11 games in-league, but this really mauled Cal’s chances of landing a protected seed.

I can agree with that.

I never thought we were as good as our record showed before the Stanford game, but I was starting to doubt myself and believe.
Now I am back, though still higher than my preseason expectations. I still think they can win all 3 remaining Oregon games. But I no longer have hope that they can pull off any more upsets. Maybe Monty is glad we lost. You know he always wants to be with the whip instead of running with the reins open. This will allow him to crack that whip.
OK this is just dumb
Why would losing to a worse team mean you can’t beat a better team? Cal shoots tons of threes. That makes it almost by definition a team that has highly variable play.
Knee-jerk pessimism is as annoying as knee-jerk optimism.

No. I'll defend the statement, and agree with you.
Good point. Cal is a highly variable team. And just because we lost to OSU doesn’t mean we can’t pull it back together and win lots more games.
However, to my point, as the season has worn on, opposing coaches have been shown the way how to beat Cal. They now see our strengths and weaknesses clearly. I believe we snuck up and surprised some people earlier. But I’m very concerned about our interior, as much as I like Boykin, Kamp, and Wilkes. Really nice guys who give a solid effort. It pains me to be critical.
And I know that the rest of the Pac doesn’t have extremely dominant interior players. But I think now it’s clear who you have to stop, and how you can attack Cal, in order to win.
HEY BOYS
At least I hit my Parlay tonight… Twist’s wife is getting something nice!

Parlays
I lost one parlay each because of one game.

“Twist’s wife is getting something nice”.
Oh, so you mean I’m going to show up for her in a leopard print speedo. Ok, I guess I’m willing to do that for her…
(just kidding, too many pun opportunities.)
oh you children.....
the true cal fan does not believe in teh simple things…..
like if we play well we win, or if our players and coaches are better we win more…..
it is the capricious will of the gods that gives us wins and loses, nothing else.

We forgot to sacrifice our 5 virgins to the Gods Of Basketball, didn’t we? But where will we find virgins?

What about your wife – I heard she was going to get something nice… With a name like Twist N Hook, I’m assuming she still qualifies.
(Sorry, not wanting to make enemies here – just laughing to myself)
I was at the game
And I remember we had a pretty good lead (10+) when the student section decided to heckle #22 Haynes. It got pretty loud and REALLY FUNNY. But Haynes just got fired up played some D, got the ball score a 3 got pumped up and led the comeback to an eventual victory.
That asshole.
Also I hate #10. He reminds me of an ex-roommate that I hated. I wanted to punch his face
In other words, Go Bears!
You know, I think we were all a bit seduced by the 15-2 start and the wins against both Zona and ASU, but the truth is, this is a team that can play well or poorly. Beyond the starting 5, there is not a lot of talent.
So, before you put on your black nikes and board the mothership, just keep in mind that this is a team with very little margin for error. Yes, we should have beaten OSU, but this year we’ll win some we probably shouldn’t, and lose some we probably shouldn’t.
Come on, guys. Don’t be bruins.
Yeah, well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
