Is this a video or audio only stream?

If audio only, I think I’ll jump in the car. If video, save the gas and the drive and frame the tickets.

It should be a video stream

It was pretty low quality last time I watched, but it’s certainly better than nothing. I’d go to the game =D

Thanks for the feed.

Apparently I’ll need some kind of feed for the Oregon game on Saturday. Although I pay for the college sports package on my cable, that only gets me the FSN Northwest and Arizona games for the most part.

Also nice to stay at home cause UCLA's Dragovich has found his stroke in a serious way

6 of 7 3-pointers in the first half vs WSU. Somebody get a hand in that guy’s face! Interesting b/c Dragovich took over Keefe’s starting spot at the 4 a couple weeks ago. Now we see why. What another dimension. Still, UCLA, like us, is lacking an intimidating (Aboya) inside game. I thought Ben Braun was supposed to be able to close the deal on the backup inside presence for UCLA – Drew Gordon. Oh, yeah. He got fired.

BOYKIN

Happy to see Mr. enthusiasm doing so well. It was a bit comical when he was ineligible the first half of last season – he’d be running all over the court slapping fannies, dressed in street clothes. I said – this guy better be good or else he’s really going to look out of place. Now he’s getting his due. GOOD FOR BOYKIN!

I’ve always felt that when players who are a little uncontrolled (Jorge, Jerome) don’t tend to get calls because they drive so quickly and chaotically.

Cal is not doing well attacking this trapping defense.

Pretty disgusting to see the slow movement back and forth across the top. It’s like they are playing keep away from the defender at the top who runs back and forth between two guards. The object is to break the trap and advance toward the basket, fellas.

I get scared when Randle gets too excited

B/C he loses his head and makes errors. Cases in point:
Isaiah Thomas got in his head – he played like crap.
We started losing to Stanford, so he started forcing drives and committed unnecessary turnovers.
Just now, he sinks 2 long 3’s, so he fires a 3/4 court lob off the backboard.

It’s best if he can learn to play in control of his emotions. Doing a MUCH better job of that this year. Harness the beast.

Interesting call by the refs in the USC Wash game

borderline charge/block call. Baseline ref calls block, backcourt ref calls charge. Refs huddle and decide….

still way too early

in my predictions, I predicted an upset versus the Oregon schools. We can easily beat this team on the road if Monty coaches them up

Put a fork in this team

They were lucky to be at the head of the pac 10, but now the are going to sink to their rightful spot. Wait until the expected losses come. They’ve lost the 1 or 2 game edge they had. Too bad. Back to the middle of the pack after losses in LA.

by concordtom on Jan 22, 2009 9:25 PM PST up reply actions

pac 10

they’re a 3rd to 4th place team at best, and that’s if they play to their potential…not having any big man presence (harper kamp is at best a bench role player on most teams) is a huge liability…if they don’t lose these types of games at home anymore, hopefully they can become a 12th seed in the tourney

by jorgesucks on Jan 22, 2009 9:28 PM PST up reply actions

it's not like the other Pac-10 teams have any post presence

you guys are way too quick to pull the trigger. we’re better than this, and especially Montgomery, he’s much better than this.

I don’t understand. They ran the same defense the ENTIRE GAME and we looked even more lost the last five minutes? Were they trapping or playing more aggressively at any time? I can’t think they were just running the same scheme and Cal couldn’t figure it out; the Bears were throwing some of the worst passes I’ve ever seen down the stretch.

Define 'devouring it'

If it’s just hitting wide open 3s, that’s not enough.

look at Boykin's line

every shot of it was in the first half

jorge and randle

jorge and randle don’t know how to run around screen’s near the top of the key…any team with guards (stanford, ucla) will pick em apart until they learn how to get under the screens or have someone double

I think we really missed Theo making plays in this game too

he hit only 1 three in the first half and went 1-7

I'm glad we're getting this loss in mid conference play.

This would be seen much worse if we were to do it right before selection day. Now, we really need Monty to coach these players up and regroup

etc

this is a 2nd round ncaa team; a sweet 16 if they make an upset or two…hopefully bak bak will be the inside guy that gives them a chance next year to make a run; and if PC sticks around; the draft is too weak this year, so he’d be able to make it

by jorgesucks on Jan 22, 2009 9:31 PM PST up reply actions

Still, I want to recruit bigs so we have some variety to the O

Think about Braun – what’s he doing bringing in recruits like Nicola and Max? Cause he didn’t fill his picks and got them as late emergency additions. Now they are wasted scholarships. Nicola wasn’t good when he was playing.
Monty HAS to get recruits or we’ll see this again and again.
Wilkes was a big name who didn’t pan out. What other schools offered him? So we are left with undersized front court (or 7 footers who can’t play) and we are surprised to find ourselves living and dying by the 3? Gotta vary the O. Gotta get players to do that. What if our big 3 this year weren’t playing so wonderfully? Doormat.

The problem is OSU is seen as this horrible, horrible team, but they really have some nice outside players (one of which they got back against Nebraska, a game which they won)

OSU is a horrible, horrible team.

Last time I checked they were sub-200 in the Pomeroy rankings, and getting one fairly good player doesn’t change that much.

You can tell they’ve improved. They lost their first game to Howard. Then they beat Howard by 40 in their 2nd to last nonconference game. The Princeton offense has taken root, and on certain nights, they can beat teams like USC and Cal.

You can sell me that they ought to be like #120 or something

but that’s pushing it.

Good point. We sure made them look good tonight

But I watched them lose that game against (who was it? ASU?) just last week and said they looked like a high school team. They were 10x more pathetic trying to hold onto victory in that game than Cal was tonight. The offense was PATH-E-TIC in that game, so I am really bummed out to see us lose to them tonight. Maybe this is just the way it is with college hoops. Some nights you look great, others like shit. Check out GTown losing tonight… that was a surprise. Then there’s the games where referee Dave Libbey wins the game for you! (ASU over AU last night – joke!)

recruits

to his credit, braun did recruit pc, randle and anderson in the same class…if anderson had stayed, things would have been different…i think monty will bring the players…he’s always had big men…madsen, the collins twins, etc.

could you please change your login name.

I find it offensive to have that against a freshman who was a late addition to the team, and who has played quite admirably this early career of his, despite some errors.
Thanks.

All I can say is that at least they're better off with the loss here and the win @ Washington

than the other way around.

Unbelievably poor play the final 8 minutes, and I have to say unbelievably poor coaching as well. And I love Montgomery.

And just to elaborate on the last point

apart from the repeated inability to solve plays which OSU ran over and over again, not fouling when OSU has the ball, up 2, with 50 seconds left (and still all 3 1-and-1s to get through) is inexcusable. The defense wasn’t stopping OSU anyway— you can either let them run off 30 seconds or not, and their odds of scoring are about the same either way.

I even felt confident.

I didn’t watch the game, wasn’t all too worried about it. Mike Montgomery has lured me into a false sense of confidence. god dammit. this ruined my night. will probably ruin my friday.

As bad as the offense was, the defense wasn't much better

Oregon State kept the rock moving. Lots of easy shots by my account. Way too much trouble defensing simple pick and roll. Any reason why the defense was so bad?

by BearsNecessity on Jan 22, 2009 9:33 PM PST reply actions

Really looked off -- Randle just is not big enough to effectively defend anybody

THIS IS THE ADVERSITY THE BEARS WILL HAVE TO WORK THROUGH TO BECOME A GOOD TEAM.

This is when Monty will make his money

Robertson looked so off tonight, I wouldn’t be surprised if he was hurt. And he definitely couldn’t defend.

Not monty’s fault, but it seems the team has had a string of very meh performances. We were just able to turn some into wins.
