unsurprizing, really

he’s always had the chops. It’s purely a question of health/stamina. If he can take the physical abuse, he’ll have a fine career.

Thanks Avi & Danzig.

Great debut, I loved it!

He’s had the chops, but it’s always a whole ‘nother story when you get on that big stage. The game is so much faster, the nerves are jumping ’cause it’s his first NFL game, never mind that he’s starting!

He showed poise, skill, and just that little bit of attitude – loved it.

Go Bears!

Not a bad day for Marshawn, either

Cal Bears tearin’ it up!! Let’s see if Aaron can keep this train moving on Monday night.

Go Bears!

Rest assured he will, Pete. I know he will. Never have I felt so certain in my life, and that’s saying a lot.

Does it help Cal

when when Cal players go on to do well in the pros like DeSean and Marshawn (at least so far)? i figure it would be an enormous boost to the program…

by giantfan5 on Sep 7, 2008 11:34 PM PDT reply actions

Hey now!

You damn well better make one of these fancy videos for Aaron’s debut tomorrow! And it damn well better be put on the main page like all the Jackson coverage! As much as I love this blog, and all of its members and writers, I have been shocked by the utter lack of Rodgers coverage. As Tedford so eloquently stated at the half of the 03 SC game, “that’s a total lack of respect…” See footage here.

If I have to step up AGAIN and write a drunk post recounting the game and Rodgers exploits, I will, but I’ll be pissed! I suggest y’all make sure that doesn’t happen. Why is this blog ignoring Rodgers? He is after all, one of the most celebrated Cal players ever! Perhaps it is the elitists like Twist who look down on him because he was a Juco transfer? (-: Perhaps he hates Chico and Butte Community College? (-: Is it a conspiracy? What gives?

by CaliSeth on Sep 8, 2008 12:03 AM PDT reply actions

Wait a flucking minute damnit!

You intentionally miss the point. None of those posts were on the main page! And frankly, call me a drunk slacker, but I can’t remember seeing any of those posts. Where did you guys bury them?!? I want to see some pomp and spectacle for Rodgers tomorrow round here. This is finally going to be the Tedford QB that proves all of the naysayers wrong about him. I am shocked by your lack of enthusiasm BearsNecessity. Just shocked!

by CaliSeth on Sep 8, 2008 12:42 AM PDT up reply actions

Okay

Let’s list the things that happened this weekend:

Cal just crushed a Pac-10 team on the road by 63 points
We finally won a two-year case that’s been mired by delays and controversy and stupidity.
41 of 42 trees were cut down, leading half of Golden Bear nation (including you) to get raucously drunk and celebrate the new age of Cal football and the annihilation of the treesitter movement.
Then just for good measure, DeSean and Marshawn tore it up on Sunday, leading their teams to routs on their respective NFL teams.

Can you see why Rodgers’s debut might have slipped through the cracks?

I’ll be doing an open thread tomorrow. Calm yourself.

by BearsNecessity on Sep 8, 2008 3:02 AM PDT up reply actions

The YouTube Thursdsay was on the main page. And we will have, I believe, an open thread for people to comment on tonight. You going to be there, CaliSeth?

OBAMA + BIDEN 2008! Vote for real change! No more tyrannical bloggers!

You are not me! You lie, CBKWit! I too have followed the despicable actions of CBKWit. Week after week, I have grown more disturbed by his actions. If anything, his remarks have injured my candidacy. By not supporting both Riley and Rodgers with a genuine enthusiasm, Hillary has recalled her support. Conservatives are calling me unpatriotic! Should I lose this election, there will be no one to blame other than CBKWit!

I put my blood and sweat into my community. Vote for me if you care about Democracy!

Well alright...........

OK, so about one of those was on the main page. Perhaps I am oversensitive. I seem to have a thing about QB’s since I played one in High School for a small rural team. I obviously have nowhere near the talent of Riley, Longshore, or even Ayoob. Still, I am so thrilled to see the prospect of a Tedford QB finally breaking the mold. Perhaps I am slightly inebriated. I am not trying to rile anyone up, but I just think we should root for Rodgers all we can! If you do not, well then, I am saddened. Twist… You gonna watch the game tomorrow?

by CaliSeth on Sep 8, 2008 12:52 AM PDT reply actions

He has not broken the mold YET

He has to play a solid season first before we can say he broke the mold.

I expect Rodgers to perform fairly well this season; he has a great O-line and a full complement of weapons that are eerily similar to the historic 2004 Cal team. But he’s going to have his hiccups, so we need to be ready for them.

And this might as well be an announcement: OPEN THREAD TOMORROW for Monday Night Football. 7 PM EST, 4 PM PST.

by BearsNecessity on Sep 8, 2008 3:05 AM PDT up reply actions

I see CalSeth's point

There hasn’t been much coverage in terms of front page stories or videos. I myself have been dismayed over the lack of coverage during the Farve-fiasco.

However, CalSeth… I hope you don’t think that I have any control over this. I think you’ll agree that I’ve done my small bit… I’ve posted videos of all of Aaron’s pre-season games, did two CaptionContests about Farve and called Farve a “selfish f**** prick” on a DBD. Maybe I could have called him a “motherfu**n cocksucker” too but I was really busy that day.

I have no control over what videos get promoted to the front page… even when I ask nicely, I still get rejected. So I’m in the same boat as you man.

by danzig on Sep 8, 2008 6:17 AM PDT up reply actions

What did you want promoted, but were rejected? We tend to promote all of your highlight videos.

that’s not entirely true… I think everyone on this site has a bias towards our offense… defense videos don’t get much love…. the Zack vid… Hughes, the Wrecking Crew vids… no soup for them at all….and ironically they’re the hardest to make (well second hardest behind blocking vids).

Plus I asked this vid to be promoted:

I think what it is

Is that it’s hard for us to judge how much attention we should be giving to Cal alums. At least that’s the feeling on my part. I mean, no one could possibly have been more excited about DeSean’s play yesterday than I was, and while it was exciting, he no longer plays for Cal and probably doesn’t warrant quite the amount of excitement that Jahvid Best does at this point. I mean, should we continue to cover Tony Gonzalez with the same amount of gusto?

Not to mention if we started covering Jason Kidd as much as CaliSeth seems to adore Rodgers, I’d probably have to quit blogging.

I'm still wondering why the Nets didn't draft Leon Powe.

by yellow fever on Sep 8, 2008 11:24 AM PDT up reply actions

They’re all fresh in our minds, that’s why. We want Cal rookies to succeed. Ten years from now when Desean is the next Steve Smith (minus the punching), Rodgers is the next Steve Young, and Lynch is the next Walter Payton, then our focus won’t be too big on them – they’ll be superstars in the NFL. But in the first couple years out of college, it’s hard not to root for the same people we were recently rooting for at Memorial Stadium.

Don’t tell me how much I can root for Marshawn!
