Cal v. CSU 9.27.08 Pre-Game Open Thread
Since it is unclear whether any CGB Marshawnthusiast will be at a computer for the game today, we've decided to put up all these threads ahead of time. Use this one to discuss all the action of the earlier games as we careen helplessly towards the CSU game today at 3 PM. I, for one, am excited to see the new stadium view without the trees and tree-sitter circus.
If you missed anything this week, don't forget to check out our discussion of interesting rules, including Ragnarok's favs. We also discussed the national football rankings and the Pac10 football rankings. And regarding today's opponent, CSU, we had a Q+A with another blog, looked at some game film, and took a shallow look at their O and D.
So, comment away!

i just want our bears to look good
TD Michigan State…but oh, it’s a QB sneak. Ringer gets nothing.
So, basically, you gotta Go Bears!
eh, no one expects them to be good
except at tailgating. and hot coeds. i hear they’re good at those things.
So, basically, you gotta Go Bears!
I expect them to be good! Houston Nutt a gamer!

Sparty machine is rolling
20-7, turning into a rout with Kellen Lewis out.
Clemson 10, Maryland 6.

Fantastic start by Indiana’s receivers (dropped balls) and Indiana’s d-backs (dropped picks). They keep on throwing the ball too, so that leaves plenty of time for Ringer to destroy them later on.

MSU should really work on that punt-blocking stuff.

"officials will universally give the benefit of the doubt to not calling a safety"
I think we’ve seen that.
I'm still wondering why the Nets didn't draft Leon Powe.
At least the holding forced a safety.
I will not be denied more safeties.

98 yard TD reversed because of a holding in the end zone
Safety for the Spartans. Figures.

Ole Miss 24 Florida 17, near the end of 3rd.
Lots of bad tackling by the Gators on that last touchdown.

Maryland upsets #20 Clemson
Great comeback by Maryland on the road. Our loss to them stings a little less now.

WOW
Miami throws the game winning TD, but he can’t hold on and it goes into the North Carolina D-back’s hands for an INT and touchback. This after NC scored the game winning TD with under 50 seconds left.

Wow
I’m disappointed I missed that. I saw the final NC touchdown and that was a very nice catch.

I'm fairly confident that the announcer for this Indiana/Michigan State game loves Matt Canada
I'm still wondering why the Nets didn't draft Leon Powe.
Terrible secondary coverage by the Gators
Ole Miss does a simple route from the side.

UCLA runs the opening kickoff in for a TD
and then has it called back to their own 13 yard line for a holding penalty.
ಠ_ಠ
UCLA then goes three-and-out
and allows Fresno St to return the punt for a TD.
It’s going to be a long day in Pasadena.

If by long you mean many points
Tied at 7.

Ticket sales had been so poor that UCLA had to make a large ad in the Fresno Bee asking people to come to the game.

Going for the field goal?
I’m getting audio but it’s only refreshing at about one frame per two or three second period.

The special teams in this game is beyond retarded
78 yard kickoff return. UCLA scores immediately to make it 16-13. And both teams missed their conversion points (Fresno a 2 pointer, UCLA an extra point)

Nice job by Arian Foster
fumbles it at his goalline with Crompton. Turns a close game into 14-6 Auburn and pretty much death for the Vols.
That was Crompton's fault

Wisconsin 6, Michigan 0
And really the Wolverines have been killing themselves. Although they got hosed with that last penalty.
And that fumble recovery was clearly out of bounds. Great work refs.

The family and I were hanging out at the dog park on Hearst Ave. about an hour ago when a police caravan drove by. Two police motorcycles, a couple cars, and in between them two well-maintained buses. Presuming this was CSU coming to the stadium, I quickly gave them a “thumbs down” salute.
My wife, less interested in decorum, gave them the double bird.
All I can say is that I hope Tedford does not put up the team at a hotel the night before the game and then drive them to the game.
by markdash on Sep 27, 2008 1:45 PM PDT reply actions 2 recs
That’d be pretty awesome. Tedford’s drives a huge pimpmobile into the stadium as hippies and environmentalists look on in horror. Then everyone starts jumping out of the bus.

i'm guessing if he didn't want to fly the players out a day early

If true, I wonder where they were staying, in SF?
Had an epic pre-game taunting experience at the Claremont for the Minn game in 2006. We happened to bump into the Gophers filing through the hotel to get into their bus. We were loaded and laid into them. They were fucking huge, but luckily they mostly ignored us! I still take credit for rocking their fragile psyche and allowing Cal to kick their asses.
