Pac10 SBN Power Poll Week 4

Spc_top10_mainimg_440_medium

via a52.g.akamaitech.net

Well, Addicted To Quack never got back to us regarding the Roundtable.  If you are out there, ATQ, we are here to help whenever with that noble process.

So, instead we have CougCenter (remember those amazing 7 days?) with the Pac10 Power Poll. Those crazzy hatters over at CougCenter polled us SBN Pac10 sites (with one notable exception) to see what our rankings were for the Pac10 teams.  For many, it was difficult.  The difficulty in ranking the Pac10 teams was best phrased by CBKWit's ballot:

1) USC
2) Nobody
3) Nobody
4) Nobody
5) Cal/Oregon
6) who (arizona)
7) the (ASU)
8) fuck (Furd/OSU)
9) cares (UW)
10) UCLA/WSU

Ultimately, after all the points were tallied and the judges were recused, the final poll emerged:

1. USC - 70
2. Cal - 62
3. Oregon - 57
4. ASU - 44
5(t) Arizona - 41
5(t) OSU - 41
7. Stanford - 27
8. UCLA - 19
9. Washington - 14
10. WSU - 11

We're Number Two!  We're Number Two!  Inside the jump, find each blog's individual ballots.

House of Sparky (ASU)

1. USC,
2. Cal,
3. Oregon,
4. Arizona,
5. ASU,
6. Oregon State
7. Stanford
8. UCLA
9. Washington State
10. Washington

Addicted to Quack (Oregon)

  1. USC
  2. Cal
  3. Oregon
  4. ASU
  5. Arizona
  6. OSU
  7. Stanford
  8. UCLA
  9. Washington
  10. Washington State

Conquest Chronicles (USC)

1.USC
2.Oregon
3.Cal
4.Arizona
5.Ore. St.
6.ASU
7.Stanford
8.UCLA
9.UW
10.WSU

After looking at all the ballots, a few trends emerge.  The top 4 were almost universally USC, Cal, Oregon, ASU, in that order.  Only Building The Dam and Conquest Chronicles seemed to diverge from that.

And, the bottom 6 were almost universally crazzy.  Most had WSU at 10, but otherwise it's all over the map.  The perception right now is a clear #1 with USC, then Cal/Oregon/ASU at 2-3-4 in some order.  Arizona  and OSU knocking on the door to get up to that 2nd tier.  And then all the rest of the teams should be relegated Premier League style to Division 1-AA.

Of course, in Week 4 of a long and brutal season, this means nothing.  But what is there to love about college football if not long and brutal discussions of meaningless nothings?

What is your Pac10 ranking?

I have two ballots

1) Dirty Rotten Cheaters
2-10) People who don’t cheat.

It’s times like this I wish they’d never discovered CougCenterium.

And I must respectfully disagree with CBKWit, I think all of these changes are entirely with merit and contribute to a better understanding of Pac-10 football.

1) USC
2) Nobody
3) Somebody
4) Nobody
5) fuck
6) the
7) ????
8) cares
9) who
10) Stanfurd

Waiting for the next week of games

This is great. It’s always interesting to see how everyone’s personal bias.. i mean.. inside knowledge of their own teams influences their ballot.

- Love how OSU ballot places them ahead of Oregon. Gotta love the hate.
- I personally think Washington always gets bashed due to its tough schedule. Gotta respect the scheduling.

I was sad UCLA rose in the rankings after that Tennessee win. Everyone in the pac-10 knew the injury depleted UCLA was not going to be very good. The fact that they jumped was a sign none of those east coasters are actually know much about the pac10. I knew they would get beat down throughout the season and it would reflect poorly on the pac-10. Anyways, go pac-10, let’s redeem ourselves.

1) USC
2) Cal
3) Oregon
4) ASU
5) Arizona
6) Oregon State
7) Washington
8) Stanford
9) UCLA
10) WSU

I think you're missing a team

At least by my tally, the team currently atop the Pac-10 standings is … the Fightin’ Holmoes of BYU!

And I agree: the Pac-10, Mountain West, and WAC, should get together and form a soccer-style relegation system. Each year, the worst team in the Pac (Serie A) should get booted down to the Mountain West (Serie B), whose champion moves up to take their place, with similar promotion and relegation between the Mountain West and the WAC (Serie C). No doubt the coaches, ADs, and chancellors/presidents would love that system. Alas, if only fans were allowed to run sport.

Go Bears!

There is a lot of homerism among the bottom-feeders

1. USC

2. Cal
3. Oregon (I’d have them tied with Cal if they could keep their QBs from getting injured every week)

4. ASU
5. Arizona

6.7. Stanford/OSU
8.9.10. Washington/UCLA/WSU/Berkeley High

Speaking of rankings...

Are you guys going to revisit your ranking of sports writers during the season? Maybe a good bye-week post.

by CalBandGreat on Sep 24, 2008 12:47 PM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I thought nobody liked that post since it only got two comments. Perhaps we’ll revisit those rankings. Some writers have definitely been a disappointment.

If you judged popularity by comments, then Twist would be the most popular writer and CBKWit’s lack of material would mean that noone likes him.

Do the rankings necessarily need to involve the actual teams themselves?

10. Oregon trainers — this 10th place ranking is the only one truly well deserved
9. Bay Area Press — now that Dumpster Muffin, Loaf Owls, Stump, and Compost are out of the picture, will have to return to, you know, actually reporting.
8. Pete Carroll’s chance of a relaxing Pac 10 year — the rest of the Pac 10 sucking so much makes the threat of a loss all the more embarrassing.
7. Wazzu - despite the majority of their QBs being-technically—dead, kicked the crap out of a real, live football team.
6. Ty Willingham — Somehow, some way, still at UW.
5. OSU — they got their incredible suckitude out of the way early, as usual, and will only end up screwing the seasons of other Pac 10 teams grasping at success in November.
4. Pasadena Golfers — now that no one will be showing up to UCLA games the rest of the year, the golf course/parking lot will be free of cars, opening up a bank of tee times.
3. Jim Harbaugh — Pac 10 a mess? Doesn’t care, doesn’t have to. Welcome to his world, every year!
2. Stegosaurus.
1. SAHPC.

U gotta be freakin’ kidding me! The $C blog is actually called the “Conquest Chronicles”?! You’ll have to excuse me. I just threw up in my mouth a little bit. I thought that one could only find that kind of internet self-love on gay porn sites.
