Condensed CAL vs MSU Highlights

Here it is. I would ask everyone to pay attention to the down and distance during most of these plays. A play in itself is cool to watch, but realizing how significant that play was to the game (eg 3rd&11) makes it that much cooler.

I’ll might have followups later this week with “3-4 Defense only” highlights… or the like. Any suggestions for vids or music are welcome.

Another great job, Danzig!!!! You can never make ENOUGH highlight videos!

I am worried. That Danzig will defect to Addicted To Quack or Bruins Nation before signing day!

Clearly, we have to send Danzig more free CGB t-shirts and hookers.

I guess they’re going to have to bring in a second CGB hooker, Twist doesn’t satisfy any of those things.

1 suggestion. Is it possible to get a video of that Jahvid play where he spin throws the MSU D player to the ground up on youtube or something? I predict that video will come in handy. Great use of slowdown, too!

BEST spin move ever

<ba dum ching!>

I'm still wondering why the Nets didn't draft Leon Powe.

Sure. Just that play right?

by danzig on Sep 2, 2008 12:59 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Like the Marshawn stiff arm, I have a feeling that that play will be one we’ll be talking about for a long time. Maybe Best will prove me wrong by making the “Spin Throwdown” a staple. Hopefully!

Concern about Best

It seemed like a lot of the runs he had were cut short because he ran into another Cal player. I feel like at least a couple of those runs could have been a little longer if he’d slowed a bit for blockers, or seen that they were slowed down in front of him.

I kissed Dumpster Muffin and I liked it. The taste of her hippie chapped lips.

BLOCK FASTER DAMMIT

I think we’re in pretty good shape if that’s our biggest concern about him. Still valid, though.

I'm still wondering why the Nets didn't draft Leon Powe.

CSU 07

Reminded me of the long run Best ripped off against CSU last year. Desean tried to throw a block, got in Best’s way, fell down and crumpled into fetal positon. If I remember correctly, Best promptly worked his way over him and kept chugging along for a total of 64 yards.

Desean: “OH GOD NOT THE HANDS, NOT THE HANDS!”

Great job Danzig!

But in line with your name, how about some Punk music to go along with the highlights. That way I don’t feel like I’m supposed to cry at the end of the reel. Anti-Flag has some catchy tunes; Die for the Government is one of my faves but the words don’t really match up too well with Cal football.

Trust me, if they were just for me they’d all have punk music. I’ve learned quite a few things since my first vid and I’ve done some research online on what songs people want in sports highlight reels (people actually debate the topic).

The general consensus is rap or hip-hop over rock… and the fast parts of the song must not be drastically different in beat to the slow parts of the song. Plus I learned you have to use ‘benign’ songs… or things that people can’t hate, but won’t really love either. The people over at NFL films can get away with using Goo-goo dolls because most of the reel is in slow motion. I judge the success of a song by how many times i’m asked for the name of the song by youtube users…. and hip-hop def rules so far.

But I’ll use some punk soon, just for you. Although I just listened to Die for the Gov and seems too slow paced.

Wind Blow

By Bone Thugs is an awesome song that is just begging to be used for a future collection of Best outrunning defenders or of Riley’s long balls that beautifully make it to receivers.

Ch-check it out.

Danzig, I watched each of your videos a dozen times in the weeks leading up to the season. They got me through some hard, football-free times. Great work and keep ’em coming.

Excellent!

I just listened to Wind Blow and it totally works. This is why I’m asking everyone to give me suggestions cuz I’m out of song ideas. I will include Wind Blow in a future vid.

Thanks cavedweller

Thanks for the good video, Danzig. Your choice of music was a nice change and a bit interesting.

Things i noticed: (1) Dantonio was pissed so many times throughout the game; (2) Tau’ufo’ou took out two defenders on Vereen’s TD run.

I *heart* Tau'ufo'ou

That guy was putting his hat on everyone. Glad he got a touchdown.

The worst thing about the Dunbar spread is that Marshawn had to run without a fullback – I love watching Will T. destory linebackers and safeties.

by LeonPowe on Sep 2, 2008 5:49 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

His complete awesomeness in Saturday’s game makes me sad that I didn’t wear my Ta’ufo’ou jersey. He was blocking like a beast out there.

by Berkelium97 on Sep 2, 2008 6:03 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I was taking a risk using that song… but it is a sports song.. and I felt so inspired after the game and that song matched my feelings perfectly.

Yeah, Tofu had a career night and it’s not surprising to me now that he’s a team captain. I was thrilled he got a TD in this game because your credibility goes through the roof as a leader when you actually produce… so he’ll be able to gel the young RB crew. Plus that seal block was sick.

by danzig on Sep 2, 2008 6:03 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Great vid once again

Not the first time this question has been asked, but why don’t we use Tofu more in short yardage? Too important as a blocker? It seemed particularly weird last year when we were struggling in the red zone. When he carries the ball he is good for 5 yds a shot.

Glad to see him get the TD though!

by OskiMonsta on Sep 3, 2008 7:41 AM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I've wondered that myself...

Especially during that Oregon State game on the goal line – there were four attempts to get into the end zone from the one-yard line. Why couldn’t one of those attempts have been a hand-off to Tau’faou? Or hell, direct snap to him.

by Rishi on Sep 3, 2008 9:41 AM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

So now I watched the video at home, where I can hear it…

Somehow, this music works really well. Except that it’s stuck in my head now…

Why is a song necessary at all?

Could you use just the audio from the game with fades in and out? For me, the music is such a distraction. Not that I’m not appreciative of the high quality highlight clip, I’m just curious.

by Rocktopus on Sep 2, 2008 8:36 PM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Good question

There’s a real answer: I can’t just post straight broadcast video because it’s illegal.

When the video is unaltered other than being cut up Youtube sends me the dreaded “copyright holder” email. It says that the copyright holder has been notified of my video but it won’t be taken down. However, usage statistics and metrics will be sent to the copyright holder and they may choose to show advertising over the video in the future. Even my Kevin Riley video triggered the email. Vimeo is less diplomatic, they just delete it and don’t even notify you.

This doesn’t happen when I add titles and music etc… because it becomes more of an original work while using the clips under ‘fair use.’

There’s a secondary but less important reason. I use a lot of slow-mo… and during the slow-mo sections I get the ‘darth vader’ warped voice effect… which takes time to split and mute out.
