Cal vs. Maryland 9.13.08 Third Quarter Thread
Wow. Talk about a bad call.
The non-safety call was worse than the Locker play last week.
It wasn't even a judgment call. It was an obvious call. What a horrible non-call on the safety. It wasn't even close to not being a safety. The ball didn't get even close to 2 yards within the endzone line.
HORRIBLE CALLS:
Holding on Teofilo; No safety call; Facemask on Rulon Davis... what else?
Are these ACC refs?

So guys
This is why you wanted Riley! Big comeback time right?
by BearsNecessity on Sep 13, 2008 10:39 AM PDT reply actions
Everyone think positive thoughts. WE can’t panic! Right now Tedford is chewing their collective ass’s out! We are going to come out strong!
To be honest
I felt much, much worse than this during the Armed Forces Bowl and things turned out pretty good there.
by Berkelium97 on Sep 13, 2008 10:42 AM PDT up reply actions
It should be 21-8
So if we lose by 1, we can definitely gripe.
by BearsNecessity on Sep 13, 2008 10:41 AM PDT reply actions
In order to come back
We need to throw the long ball… regardless of the risk… whenever Terps get the ball they’re bleeding the clock big time… like OrSt did against us last year. If we assume we cannot stop their run and their TEs, then we need to strike FAST… like we did against AF.
I guess the question is, “Can our receivers catch the deep ball?”
by BleedinBlue on Sep 13, 2008 10:43 AM PDT up reply actions
It's not even striking
Riley has to be sharper than ever running routes today.
by BearsNecessity on Sep 13, 2008 10:44 AM PDT up reply actions
*not a risk
Maryland’s stacking seven in the box and daring Cal to throw. So far they’ve done little.
by BearsNecessity on Sep 13, 2008 10:44 AM PDT up reply actions
Let's go D
Holding them on the first drive is going to be essential. A long drive by the terps will be soul crushing.
The Bear Will Not Quit

This looks like the same team that played the second half of last season.

seriously? the humidity? we’re blaming the humidity?
by Spazzy Mcgee on Sep 13, 2008 10:48 AM PDT up reply actions
humidity, time, lackluster tackling, lackluster blocking, terrible ref calling
In other words, Go Bears!
I need a little help with something...
Morning, Bear fans!
Despite my best efforts to wake up early, I totally missed the 1st quarter and part of the second. Did our boys look that bad in the 1st quarter too? What the heck is going on?!
I’m not throwing in the towel yet, because the game’s still relatively close, but holy cow, they need to get it together! Make some tackles! TRY, for crying out loud!
Oh, I’m gonna start the heavy drinking early this morning…Ugh.
GO BEARS!!
I’d just go back to sleep. That sounds like way more fun.

Anyone else feel like getting up and doing something else instead of watching this game?
I can stand watching losses if I’m at the stadium. Not when I’m at home in front of a TV

you may feel like it, but don't
I’ve seen some amazing NFL and college comebacks by watching what appeared to be blowouts.
www.californiagoldenblogs.com
Defense definitely needs a stop on this first MD drive. And our special teams can’t let them return the kick to the 45-50.
by Berkelium97 on Sep 13, 2008 10:52 AM PDT up reply actions
all right compromise. I'm gonna try doing some laundry and sneaking in a peek or two there
In other words, Go Bears!
I kinda feel like making breakfast instead…
Scrambled eggs, black beans, corn tortillas, sharp cheddar cheese, hot salsa…and a screwdriver. You know, to take the edge off…
Anyone listening to KGO interview with follett?
apparently they were happy they didn’t play down to their opponent last wk .. if only he knew that in a couple hrs this would happen …
more like MD playing up to us
what the fuck. I thought our Run D was excellent?
In other words, Go Bears!
Da’rel looks like a big back; Ringer was a speedster like Best, right? Maybe that’s the crucial difference?
Ringer was a lot like Forsett. Da'rel is a little faster, but he's no Best/Vereen

Just looked up his weight; he’s 185 lbs. Definitely not that big.

Cal keeps on running against seven in the box
Shouldn’t we try passing on 1st and down instead of 1 yard stuffs?
by BearsNecessity on Sep 13, 2008 10:59 AM PDT reply actions
I feel like we can’t throw it well. Too inconsistent, and we’re not going to open up the running game if we don’t throw it.
by BleedinBlue on Sep 13, 2008 11:01 AM PDT up reply actions
The radio team is saying the OL had broken downfield for the screen and a pass at that point would have drawn a flag.
Go Sox!
ok, this is even worse now ... listening to the radio
and it’s behind you guys :P
I give up
I’m drinking myself into a stupor. Also, possibly doing my laundry.
I'm still wondering why the Nets didn't draft Leon Powe.
Apparently our offense is capable of two things
1) runs up the middle
2) screen passes

Once again Cal comes off looking like total pussies on national television
I expect to see that hit on Best and the subsequent vomiting played over and over…
The Bear Will Not Quit
The Bear Will Not Die
These Maryland guys keep going down after plays.
And finding temporary replacements who still advance against our defense.
WTF!!
Just got back from my daughter’s soccer game. I cant’ believe the score, is it right?

how bad must washington state be?
most of our scores, especially early, last week were on big, broken plays. i dont think we had a sustained drive until longshore came in.
maryland is not good. i only hope we wil be over .500 in the pac10 this year.
every fucking year our defense underperforms. is that important you ask? ucla has managed to float above pure mediocrity because of their D. our D (and in the case the “offense” as well) always loses our games for us.
I've hated Gregory every year now
How many chances can the guy get?

Gee ...
I guess my concerns about our guys not being able to engineer any sort of prolonged offenensive drive last week, or our very very poor defensive play from the first week were justified.
Ah well.
Go Bears!
In an attempt to be optimistic, this keeps the team from getting too big of a head and a little humility to keep them motivated the rest of the season?
Are they still talking about weather/start time?
That doesn’t put you down 28-6 against a crappy ACC team.
