Labor Day Live Blog Open Thread II (The Sarah Palin / Rick Neuheisal Era Thread)

Fresh off the success of his Labor Day Live Blog Open Thread I, Avinash is back.  But he's not alone!  Many of our finest readers (and Goldblooded) are in there, live-blogging away.  The first thread is a hilarious recap of the madcap antics that were Fresno State-Rutgers.  And if anything screams madcap antics, it is DEFINITELY the UCLA offense.  So, get in there and live-blog your ass off!

This got buried in the last post and some people may have missed it, but the torrent for Saturday’s Cal game is heavily seeded. Go here to download it. Start now and it should be done before the end of the UCLA-Tenn game.

Lou Holtz has looked at how UCLA wears their socks and has concluded they have discipline. Seriously. Perhaps he missed the Seattles Times five part expose on Neuheisel’s disciplined Washington squads.

Cal Ranking

Has anyone run the numbers yet? If Tennessee goes down tonight can we expect to be as high as 21 or 20?

the lower the better – the last thing we want is heightened expectations

by bearsglory on Sep 1, 2008 6:23 PM PDT up reply actions

Probably 24 or 23. Only 3 teams would fall out of the top 25.

by bearsglory on Sep 1, 2008 6:24 PM PDT up reply actions

I agree. Maybe 23 in the AP poll and 25 or unranked in the USA Today poll. I think we got really good press from the Mich. St. win so we could be slightly higher.

by The Hombre on Sep 1, 2008 6:25 PM PDT up reply actions

we certainly deserve to be higher up than Fresno state, after that stinker against a mediocre Rutgers earlier

i'd call that a stretch

no idea how far clemson or vatech fall, though i’m not including them in my next blogpoll. pitt falls out, but illinois might stay. also, we’re probably still behind fresno.

So, basically, you gotta Go Bears!

by ragnarok on Sep 1, 2008 6:25 PM PDT up reply actions

Utah might leapfrog us in the rankings for beating Michigan at Ann Arbor. They’re right behind us in the AP poll.

by Berkelium97 on Sep 1, 2008 6:27 PM PDT up reply actions

could be, though Michigan wasn’t ranked or expected to be particularly good this year.

Funny

You know, I was thinking two things:

1) I feel kind of sorry for that Craft kid – sort of like leaving a goaltender in a hockey game after he’s already given up 6 goals before the 2nd is done.

2) If Dorrell had made some of the choices the Fucla coaches have on offense, wouldn’t the babybruins nation folks be apoplectic with rage? Instead, I guess they’re just making every excuse possible for “CRN” since he is the fair-haired child. Funny how one guy can be a moron for choosing a pass with less than a minute with a QB who is shaken, but the other guy is given every benefit of every doubt.

Yeeee-Haaaaaw, Rockytop!

by The Hombre on Sep 1, 2008 6:51 PM PDT reply actions

Jeez.

I can’t believe that UT isn’t winning by 3 touchdowns after 3 INTs. You’d think Craft would learn not to throw the ball into triple coverage after the 2nd INT, and that Neuheisel wouldn’t ask him to throw the ball at the end of the half instead of just going into halftime with a tie. Awful coaching on those last 30 seconds of the half.

Go Bears!

Expanding the Pac-10

I always see on sites like Deadspin and The Big Lead people complaining about how the Pac-10 should expand to 12 teams and add Boise St., Fresno St or maybe Hawaii. It’s completely ridiculous because none of those schools have the academic requirements to enter the conference. With the exception of I think Oregon St., the 9 other Pac-10 teams are all ranked in the US News top 100 universities.

by The Hombre on Sep 1, 2008 6:57 PM PDT reply actions

What, the commenters or the writers?

The commenters complain about everything. Except the NFL. They LOVE the NFL.
