Dumpster Muffin, Dumpster Muffin, La Ma Sabach Thani

Just thought I'd make this a bit more pronounced. Our dear Saint Dumpster Muffin has apparently left the trees. According to the Daily Cal:

About an hour ago the most vocal of the tree-sitters who goes by the name "Dumpster Muffin" came down from the trees after indicating that she might be suffering from an undetermined medical condition, according to Mogulof.

Our hearts go out to our most consistent source of joy and happiness. May she entertain us as much on the ground as in her Godpod.

A little more info...

I believe this is a press release from the university, but I could be wrong. Rec’d as an e-mail from Berkeleyans for Cal.

In the last 24 hours four of the remaining seven tree sitters have decided to end their participation in the protest.

On Tuesday night at approximately 11:00pm, UCPD reports that three individuals were sighted coming down from the trees. One of them, Drew Beres, age 19, was immediately apprehended on the ground, as the other two ascended a nearby tree. This morning those two individuals-—-Pamela ‘Olive" Zigo, age 19, and Travis "Bird" Richey, age 19—indicated they were interested in ending their participation in the protest and, after two hours of conversation with UCPD Assistant Chief Mitch Celaya, both peacefully came down shortly after noon. Mr. Beres was charged with a probation violation, violation of the court order and trespassing, and was later released from Santa Rita jail. Ms. Zigo and Mr. Richey were both charged with trespassing and violation of the court order and later released from Berkeley city jail.

A short time later, Amanda "Dumpster Muffin" Tierney, age 21, also came down peacefully from her perch. She had previously told police officers that she was suffering from an unspecified medical problem and, after assurances that she would receive immediate medical care, Ms. Tierney descended at 1:45 this afternoon. Once on the ground she appeared to be in distress; the Berkeley Fire department was immediately called and a physician affiliated with the protest was allowed in to the grove to provide medical care until fire department EMT’s arrived a short time later. Ms. Tierney was transported to Highland Hospital where, as of this writing, she remains. Once she is able to be processed, Tierney will be charged with trespassing and violating the court order and could be released pending a UCPD review of other possible charges and/or outstanding warrants.

"We are pleased that our approach seems to be working as we move a few steps closer to a safe but certain end to this situation", said university spokesman, Dan Mogulof. "Assistant Chief Celaya and his officers did an incredible job today, handling a delicate situation with the highest degree of professionalism."

Yesterday Judge Barbara Miller scheduled a July 17th hearing to evaluate the university’s request that her injunction be modified so that construction of the new athletic facility can begin. Pending the outcome of that hearing, the University will continue to communicate with the three individuals who still illegally occupy University property, and will continue to supply them with essential daily supplies of food and water.

19 and 19… so young…i wonder if these kids are trust-fund hippies or if they are more of the militant homeless kind of kid who saw sitting in the tree as an opportunity for… well something different.

Dumpster Muffin is a troll on Wikipedia

Whoa, I just found out that Muffin is a troll on the Tree Protest page on Wikipedia. This means she’s been editing the Protest page with biased comments and she’s started an edit war.

Plus she’s defending her biased edits by calling those that undo her edits trolls! What a bitch.

For those of you who edit wiki articles, check out her edits:
page history

Because of all the flames, she deleted the comments on her talk page:

they've got wi-fi up there

you need a calnet ID to get airbears, so i’m not quite sure how it works, but they are getting internet access

So, basically, you gotta Go Bears!

airbears actually works up there?

Maybe I can liveblog a game from the seats or even tightwad hill

The top of a tree seems like it’s too far from a router to work.

A far likelier scenario

Someone by the forum name of Dumpster Muffin has joined Amy as an annoying presense on Scouts.com. This was posted, while the real Ms. Muffin is laying in a hospital bed. Highly unlikely, it is her due to the humor, so could the wiki Ms. Muffin be someone else who is taking advantage of her fame? I know they have a small solar panel in the redwood tree that could supply enough energy for a laptop, but I just don’t think they’re smart enough to do that. Afterall, they did request cell phones from the UC during last week’s negotiations.

If by some miracle they do have a working computer, I bet the PHC (Panoramic Hill Commies) gave them access to the internet, since the tree-huggers aren’t affiliated with the UC as students or janitors. They could simple use a Cell phone to access the internet, but as just stated it is highly unlikely. Of course, this is all completely blind conjector, since none of us will ever seek a friendship with a tree-hugger after this experience. If you are, I’d suggest professional help with your addiction.

TIMBER!

I have never read one of those things before. Can you explain a little bit further what is going on? Esp. the revision history, who this Falcorian character is, and what a talk page is?

How trolls bias articles

Wikipedia allows anyone to edit the content of articles. You can literally write anything you want. But unofficial “moderators” and everybody else will monitor the content and undo bad edits. These edits can be found when you hit the “history” page and see who does what. Plus anyone can undo what anyone does.

When you hit the “discussion” tab you can see the active debates going on in the background.

The user “Talk” page is the user’s homepage where people can write messages to them. Typically its a no-no to delete messages people write to you, only trolls white out their own talk page.

Our dear Dumpster Muffin has been trying to bias the page, but good editors like Falcorian have been trying to keep her in check.

To help out, post a comment on the discussion page telling everyone to watch out for Dumpster and to undo any edits she makes. Now that she’s on the ground, I expect she’ll be editing like crazy again.

I understand better now. Although I’m not sure I understand all the intricacies here, here are some areas that caught my eye:

Goons

User:71.112.10.248, please stop changing arborist to goon. It is blatantly POV, unsupported, counter to every single citation in that section of the article (every news article on the subject calls them arborists), and frankly boarding on vandalism. While I appreciate your attempt to help clean up the POV, these edits make your above argument seem a little hypocritical. —Falcorian (talk) 22:01, 22 June 2008 (UTC)

i looked up the definition of arborist and these guys aren't it. arborists don't go and forcibly remove people from trees, that isn't part of their training or part of any description i've read of an arborist. these "arborists" cut the ropes one of the protestors was supporting herself with (they caught her with a bucket truck). i guess we could call them "security forces" or something like that if you insist. i'm just describing them in the best term i can find. i'm pretty sure the university calls them "arborists" and the citations are just parroting that. 71.112.10.248 (talk) 23:17, 22 June 2008 (UTC)

User:71.112.10.248 has reverted back to goons, apparently believing this word falls somewhere close to the meaning of NPOV. It has been removed and contractor inserted instead. Clearly the person contracted to perform this job by UC is a ‘contractor’ so hopefully nobody should be able to complain about this change. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.181.2.134 (talk) 03:25, 23 June 2008 (UTC)

By the way, User:71.112.10.248, there is a 3 revert rule. Your blatant POV changes keep popping up over and over. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.181.2.134 (talk) 07:07, 25 June 2008 (UTC)

Is the new “center”, if built, going to be used by anyone other than football? AFAIK only football players train at memorial and the “center” is supposed to house those endangered souls now training in memorial. 71.112.10.248 (talk) 14:28, 24 June 2008 (UTC) Q: Besides the football team, which Cal athletes will benefit from the center?
A. More than 400 student-athletes from 13 different teams — 7 women’s and 6 men’s — will use the new facility. While public attention has focused on football, the new center will be a tremendous improvement for other teams — like women’s field hockey and softball, and soccer — that train and play on fields adjacent to the stadium. Without locker rooms of their own, many of the women on these teams currently change clothes in their cars to prepare for games and practice. The student-athlete center will support gender equity and ensure that all Cal teams have safe, adequate facilities. —Falcorian (talk) 17:58, 24 June 2008 (UTC) hmmm, a pretty biased site there falcorian. i guess i’ll accept it, but we have to accept the pro-sitter sites too then. i happen to know that UCB site is false , the teams all have facilities already down at harmon. female athletes don’t have to change in their cars. their language is pretty slippery there—they lament the lack of girls locker rooms, but don’t come out and say the girls will have lockers at the new place… 71.112.10.248 (talk) 04:16, 25 June 2008 (UTC)

Regarding whether to put the names of the sitters in:

But mere mention of their presence in the trees is not reflective of them having some substantial effect on the controversy. Sure, these people participated in the tree-sit, but what did these people do to distinguish themselves from the others who partcipated as well. As an analogy, should we list the names of the cops acting as barriers between the grove and the protesters? They are participating just as much into the controversy as the above mentioned tree-sitters.
This to me sounds more like patting oneself on the back rather than any helpful information. It definitely strikes me as trying to ensure you get your ‘15 minutes.’
Given that, I’ll let it stay for now and ask others what they feel and maybe we can come to a consensus. I don’t think distinguishing yourself in such a small group is a requirement for mention. In the Kent State massacre article, all the victims were mentioned11. Not all the sitters are mentioned, just those written about in “reliable” sources. Listing is just a jumping off point. Details can be filled in from there. My namesake, Dumpster Muffin, had a very memorable standoff with the “contractors”. It has been compared to the man who stood in front of the tank at Tianenmen square. [12] Dumpster muffin (talk) 16:56, 27 June 2008 (UTC) I completely disagree with pseudo-dumpter muffin on this. First of all, the article you reference makes no mention of dumpster muffin and tiananmen square. Second, any such analogy is ridiculous. I saw the whole affair, and she was visibly shaking her own perch while screaming that the arborists were shaking her down. Third, don’t compare the tree-sitters to the Kent State massacre. None of the tree-sitters have been killed or even injured. It smacks of conceit and self-righteousness to make either comparison. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.181.2.134 (talk) 01:43, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

This is what i’m talking about… these trolls try to bias the articles hoping that the moderators don’t notice.

Note to Dumpster Muffin: don’t set your username as “Dumpster Muffin”!!... people will assume you’re biased and kill your edits. How stupid are you?

Kent state? ???

give me a frickn break. Before this is over, one of the tree-sitters will compare themselves to Rosa Parks and call the UC Nazis.

Even if it is not Saint Dumpster Muffin Of The Trees, it is clearly somebody so one sided for her that it might as well be SDMOTT.

I love the goons thing. It reminds me of that Simpsons episode where Burns hires goons tot take out Homer. “Goons? Hired goons?” Classic.

Daily Planet to the rescue:

A treesitter collapsed moments after climbing down from her perch at the UC Berkeley oak grove, and campus police initially refused to allow a doctor in to examine the ailing woman, known as Dumpster Muffin.

That was the account given by the physician, Dr. Larry Bedard, and treesit support coordinator Ayr following the dramatic events of Wednesday afternoon. Dumpster Muffin was one of three treesitters to come down at the grove on Wednesday.

I’m not sure I trust this Ayr character. And I’m against people named Bedard on principal after drafting Eric in so many of my fantasy baseball leagues.

Bedard faulted campus police for their conduct, stating that "any Boy Scout knows that for someone in her condition, the first thing you do is lie her down and elevate her feet."

Hey, dude, I’m a fucking Iggle Scout and I have no fucking clue how to treat somebody in her condition. So, stop trying to tell me what I do and do not know. Of course, I’m a terrible Iggle Scout, but still.

I like this quote, because it’s like the Daily Planet are trying to play “Gotcha” with UC giving the tree-sitters water. To try to make it seem bad that Cal gaves the tree-sitters supplies.

Bedard had appeared at a rally for the treesitters June 22, where he urged the university to send up food and fluids to the treesitters. Mogulof told a press conference later that day that police had determined the treesitters had ample water.

Campus police sent up water June 26.

Are they Holocaust victims, or Tiananmen square victims? Make up ur damn mind!

Wow, now Dumpster Muffin is trying to compare herself to Tiananmen square protesters, which they couldn’t even spell correctly. I really hope the UCPD makes sure none of these crazy people get back into the trees after loading up on drugs. I honestly believe they have finally started to come down because they no longer have drugs and cigarettes. I remember when I went there some months ago a hippie was doing keys of coke in front of everyone. No drugs, no will. How typical of the chemically dependent.

I doubt they know what they're really protesting about.

It’s like all of those free Tibet folks who can’t find Tibet on a map.

Apparently the tanks didn’t think about this one….

One guy can block only one tank.

You have more than one tank.

Tanks don’t need to drive in a line.

Go around him.

Maybe it was actually their weekly follow the leader practice, you know how important those practices can be.

I kissed Dumpster Muffin and I liked it. The taste of her hippie chapped lips.
