Favre un-retiring?
An ESPN artilce suggests Brett might not be done after all.
With his family "tugging" on him to play, Brett Favre has an "itch" to come out of retirement and report to training camp with the Green Bay Packers later this month, according to sources close to the team and player.
I guess he felt like he hadn't jerked Aaron Rodgers around enough. Favre was a great player, a great competitor, and on the field he's as likeable as any guy in the league, but he's been one huge dick of a mentor.
The opinions expressed in a FanPost are, in every way, reflective of the opinions of every California Golden Blogs Marshawnthusiast. Moreover, they are reflective of every employee of SBNation, including Tyler "Blez" Bleszinski.

i just lost all respect for him.
I used to think he was badass, but now I see he’s just an asshole.

What's weird about this
Is how the media is totally siding with Favre on this one. Rodgers is totally being dicked around and at this rate, he’ll never get a chance in the NFL. It’s what it is, but it is really too bad. Of late, the media has been bashing Rodgers for wanting to get out of Favre’s shadow, for saying that fans should let him be himself and not criticize him for not being Brett Favre. Totally reasonable, I think. But it’s almost like ESPN wants Rodgers to fail before he’s had a snap as starter, so that it gives them more chances to talk about Brett Favre. They love that he’s likely coming back, nevermind how stupid they’ll look for having thrown him a virtual retirement party after he supposedly retired.

hell, Green Bay is retiring Favre's jersey at the first game!
won’t it be awkward if Favre is playing in that game…?

I think in honor of that, we should retire Longshore’s jersey in the first game, just to point out the ridiculousness of him being considered to start. Who’s with me?

I'm not
It’s a new season and what is past, is past. We should start supporting our players.
I’m not saying we can’t write criticism that is constructive, I’m just saying that I’m personally going to stop the Nate jokes.
btw: i have nothing against you Maharagi, you’re cool. I’m just saying that since Tedford said that he reads our blogs and told us all to stop bashing Nate because it wasn’t helping the team… I realized he was totally right.

ow
Now I feel like a jerk. It is my personal opinion that after watching the Armed Forces Bowl that Riley should start, but I am not privy to practice or anything like that, so maybe there is a huge difference. Also, I feel terrible if Tedford reads all our comments, there’s so much else that could help Cal football more than our inane conversations and Dumpster Muffin jokes.

that wasn't my intention
sorry maharg, that’s not the way i meant it. I was just acknowleging the stuff Tedford said during the Coaches Tour.
a-la hydro @ SF Coaches tour this year:
=Tedford emphasized that no player on the team should ever get booed. The players are giving their best and have enough to deal with between school, practices, and the games, than to deal with negative, malicious, and non-supportive fan behavior.
=Tedford acknowledged that the media, fan chat boards, and bloggers must remain positive because it does and has had an effect on recruiting.
Hydro, did Tedford really say these things?

Tedford on his own blog
From the man himself on his own blog:
Fans are so important to any football program and I can’t say enough about what it was like last year on September 1 to come into Memorial Stadium and see all that blue and gold for the Tennessee game. I know that last season did not go the way everybody was hoping – believe me, I know! We need to erase those thoughts and play with a new vision and supreme confidence, and you, the fan, can help by providing a positive environment. Over the last four years we are 20-4 in Memorial Stadium – and every one of our fans played a significant role in those wins. We need to come out on Aug. 30 and see 72,000 fans waving their blue and gold and being fired up for our team. Nothing gives our Bears a better lift than our home fans rooting us on. Michigan State is going to be a very tough opponent – you know they will be looking for revenge for 2002 when we went out there and were victorious – but we’ll be ready to go and we want all the fans ready to go as well.
Can one fan make a difference? Can fans, in general, make a difference? Of course they can, its been scientifically proven (home vs away W/L records) and Tedford and the players constantly tell us our attitudes make a difference.
For self interest alone we should tone down our Nate commentary.

Tedford’s blog. Anyone want to give odds on who will post their next blog entry first, Tedford or Longshore? Tedford’s entry was June 5, 2008 and and Longshore’s was Sept 12, 2007.

BTW, much love for Tedford but I’d rather he didn’t blog. Just stick to the X’s and O’s and the occasional summer speech at the alumni clubs.

No No, you're right
I completely agree with what you said, I just realized that what I said outside of context (of me, and people I know joking about our not necessarily warranted desire for Riley to be the QB of the future) what I said can be very inflammatory and insulting. Regardless of whether Tedford actually said those things, they are true, and we should make an effort to be more positive. That said, I think Riley is the clear choice, he’s got more of a winner’s spirit and brings more energy to the offense (with the exception of the Washington game last year when Longshore tried to convince a ref that Forsett being a yard out was a touchdown). It’s a brief moment of conscience, I’ll try not to make a habit of it.

Yes
Danzig, Tedford really did say those things. I know for a fact that recruits read the Rivals.com Cal chatboard (as well as recruit’s parents). It is a reasonable assumption that they probably read BearInsider.com as well as Cal fan blogs.
Thus, because recruits really do read our blogs, and chatboards, I think all Cal fans really do have to be especially careful to not be negative. Careful criticism is fine (“X player needs to improve his technique/skills/speed/etc.”) but flat out bashing, like what Longshore received last year (“Nate, you suck!” “I hope you get injured” “Fuck you, Longshore”) was completely completely out of line. Nothing is gained from such comments but much can be lost including recruits, fan reputation, and school reputation.

Can one of the Marshawnthusiasts write something about this topic?
...or we can post something on why we hate Chadron State or something.

This really
sucks for Aaron. Standing and holding a clipboard on the sideline and watching a 38 playing football must be boring.
i hope we win a championship soon
