DBD 7.14. 08 ESPN Team Preview articleeeeeeeeeeeee
Let's just reuse this bad boy. We are big on recycling here. My protestations below might seem inane right now. But with the way readership is now, when the season starts, I fear that the FanPosts might move at a much faster pace. And certainly we don't want the old "Longshore is GOD" posts to be knocked off the front page quickly by newer "I HEART LONGSHORE" posts.
A Q+A with Cal soccer star, Alex Morgan:
CalBears.com: Was the experience representing the United States a lot different from competing for Cal?
Morgan: "This experience is not very different than competing for Cal. One difference is that I am not around these girls as much as my teammates at Cal, so it takes much more effort to become friends, especially in shorter periods of time. The camps help us all connect with each other and become a close team, but then we have a month away from each other. Playing for Cal and playing for the national team is really not much different. I put all my effort into my teams, and I take pride in wearing any jersey, Cal or the U.S."

He is, as you might have guessed from the photos, doing a camp for children. The camp is titled "Family First," a slogan Lynch and cousins Rob Jordan and Virdell Larkins adopted when they were teammates at Cal and extended with the saying, "Forever; Ambitious; Motivation; 1st place; Solid; Together." That family has now extended to other Cal and NFL players who have no East Bay links but found their way to the camp. "It takes a world to raise a child," Delisa Lynch said. "We used to say a village, but these days, we need the world to come together for these children." The message is hope. When one child asked Jordan if he played in the NFL, and he said, "I'm in the 49ers camp," the child didn't miss a beat. "I'll be there, too," he said. "This brings hope to little people," Jordan said. "This is the way to show them that there is more to do than get in trouble."
Here's another article on it. After what happened yesterday at the Marshawn signing (story in the process of being written up), this makes me so happy!
Rumor is DeSean will be signed soon.
Alex Mack is an author. I wonder what his nom de plume will be. Any guesses? I'd go with either Marvin Phillip or TwistNHook. Nobody will figure those out! They are impenetrable.
ESPN Team PreviewNothing new.
QB is a competition. Inexperience at WR. RBs look good with Best back. Props to the linebackers. 3-4 for the obvious reasons.
If the excitement of the Riley/Longshore QB competition is just too exciting to end, there's a chance both of them play.
7-5 overall and 5-4 in the conference with a bowl game at season's end. Gee, it's nice that they see us winning one more game than last year.
There are a few solid links. So, now, then, dump away! Go Bears!
The opinions expressed in a FanPost are, in every way, reflective of the opinions of every California Golden Blogs Marshawnthusiast. Moreover, they are reflective of every employee of SBNation, including Tyler "Blez" Bleszinski.

Ok, new amendment to this Daily Bear Dump-onology:
If you have a link to post up and there really isn’t a way to start a new DBD dump (i.e. a Sunday afternoon), dutifully remember to check the FanShots first. You never know when somebody might have already posted it there, first.
Moreover, the FanShots even have a setting for “Link” to share merely a link with all of us, if there isn’t a readily available DBD or you aren’t in a good position to start your own (and even though I have been doing them recently, I, by no means, demand a monopoly on them). So, they might be the best way to share this link with all of us in the sort of Sunday afternoon scenario!
This is not to insult you, We are new to this, too, afterall. Either way, I feel this is a reasonable amendment and will hopefully avoid double posting.

Stupid Suggestion
So, FanPosts should be blog entries by non CGB writers plus the daily link dump. And, FanShots seem to be a place for photos and videos taken by CGB visitors. Perhaps there should be a FanLinks section as well where not only the daily link dump could be located but CGB readers could post links as well.
Another thought is that this whole separation between FanPosts and FanShots is stupid. This is a criticism of SBN, not CGB.

I appreciate your open and honest views. I would like to note that FanShots have a section for “Links” similar to “Photos” or “Videos.”

Domain Web has this listing in the Register Of Actions now:
07/11/08 Objections of California Oak Foundation Filed
Nothing is scanned in yet, though. So, despite their protestations of “being on vacation,” they were able to successfully file an objection.

Michael Silver checks in with Rodgers
"My road to where I am now has been very fulfilling," Rodgers said shortly before entering the clubhouse at Edgewood-Tahoe, where he’d just completed Saturday’s second round. "I put in a lot of hard work in high school just to get noticed, and when I got to Cal I waited in the wings behind a really good quarterback (Reggie Robertson) before I got my turn.”
If I recall correctly, he only had to wait about four games. But I guess that still counts.
I'm still wondering why the Nets didn't draft Leon Powe.

Rodgers has handled this situation amazingly well
Aaron hasn’t said much to the press in the past couple weeks, and even the biggest Favre fans would be be hard pressed to criticize Rodgers’ statements and demeanor during this saga. He hasn’t once said an unkind word about Favre or the Packers, never expressed frustration, and even when he’s doing things that Favre didn’t (like mentor his new backups) he hasn’t drawn attention to them. It sounds like he has all the qualities you would want from a QB and a team leader. Green Bay fans should count their blessings that Rodgers is on their team.

it's called sensibility
the Man is making millions by keeping his body in top shape, but he rarely has to put it in position to be slammed to the ground. Who here wouldn’t want to be in his shoes before the start of preseason?

ESPN article about a Farve interview on Fox News.
Interesting excerpt:
Thompson and McCarthy gave AP a detailed description of their dealings with Favre throughout the offseason, including an episode a few weeks after Favre’s retirement where the two were prepared to fly to Mississippi to seal the deal on a Favre comeback—only to have the quarterback change his mind again.
So, this is like the 18th time he’s tried to come back just this off-season. sigh

Rodgers was on tv...
...at a celebrity golf tournament in Tahoe this weekend with lots of pro and ex-pro quarterbacks and the commentators mentioned that they were all very supportive and sympathetic to the strange position he’s in. I’d agree that he’s handling it very well. The team is too, actually. Favre is the oddball. At some point they will release him if he persists, but to do it now for nothing is just bad business.

How does Tedford hold power? He still claims to not know what happened last year. As AD and the person, who Tedford has to answer (sorry big donors), Sandy has the power, and we all know that Twist gets wet dreams from the thought of it every night. GO BEARS!

Berkeley City Council member Dona Spring passed away yesterday night at the hospital where I was born, Alta Bates. What unfortunate news, the loss of such an important person in Berkeley’s recent history. I didn’t always agree with her, but she definitely was a woman of conviction.
I wonder how this affects the Memorial Stadium project. She was one of the fiercest opponents to the project,.
Most recently she demonstrated her environmental activism—and her fierce opposition to what she saw as UC Berkeley’s negative impact on the city—by supporting the people who are sitting in the oak trees in Memorial Grove.

Donna Spring is not our enemy.
I can almost see the headline now on the Save the Oaks website.
“UC Assassinates Key Opponent of Stadium Project”
“UC Uses Mafia Tactics to Finish Stadium Project”
“UC Murders Disabled Woman. Overthrow the Government!”
It’s a tragedy that she had to die and I hope the protesters don’t tarnish her legacy by spinning a conspiracy theory out of it. I know that sounds immature and lame to us, but would it really surprise anyone if they did?
She’s done many great things for the environment, disabled citizens, lower income residents and has tried to preserve the character of Berkeley. She should be celebrated appropriately and not exploited.
She was also a Cal alum so we shouldn’t trash her just because she fought the UC on the Stadium project. Her agenda for many years has been to keep living costs low for the residents of Berkeley and the presence of the University certainly didn’t help. Therefore we should understand her opposition to our agenda because it – unlike the tree-sitter motivations – were based on logic.
Donna Spring, you were not our enemy…just an opponent and you fought well. I hope the tree sitters will not tarnish your legacy.

Wait, wait, wait
She opposed the SAHPC, but she isn’t the “enemy”. Perhaps, someone has lost the sense that the use of this term is for comic relief. It ain’t personal, and we aren’t sending out the snipers, even though the alternate world folks will think so.

Somebody might have linked to this already, because its not super new, but Tyson Ross is injured.
Tyson Ross, the A’s second round pick in last month’s draft, is also dealing with injury issues. He was put on the DL July 1 because of his shoulder, but also was given the go-ahead for rehab after a clean MRI. The 21-year-old righty had only made two professional appearances so far, but was impressive, giving up just two hits and one earned run, walking none and striking out five in five innings. Ross was a Pac 10 All-Star at California last year when he went 6-6, 2.49 with 120 strikeouts and just 39 walks in 115 2/3 IP.
