Let me be the first to say those are pretty sick. I like that they got rid of the broad striped under the arms and down the sides. The whites look way better. The blue top, yellow pants combo look more like when I was in school, which was the style at the time. The V-shaped stripe on the helmet? mmm. I need to see it in person.
Why don’t we wear yellow pants with the white tops? Is that ridiculous?
The big Q: will we see an all yellow combo this year?
All gold combo
I think it would be quite fitting for Cal to break out the all gold combo for our night game against MSU. We’ve always worn the all golds for night games… and along with the GOLD OUT, it would look spectacular on TV.
True dat. Maybe our players would look invisible like predator to the spartan players with that combo.

But...
On the other hand, it would only seem appropriate to wear the regular all blue home combo to start off the season since those are our “regular” colors.
We started last season vs. Tenn in gold tops.

One more suggestion
Bring back the Joe Roth Uni’s for the memorial game vs. UCLA. Those are the best ever.
I do like the Joe Roth throwbacks
But I think those should only be brought back every 4 years or so (so every player on the team has a chance to wear them once). Those are extremely special and shouldn’t be diluted with yearly wear.
Bring back the Joe Roth Uniforms every 3 years
against whichever LA school we play. So, for example, 2010 vs UCLA and 2013 vs U$C. That way, every player only wears it once (the only ones that will play as freshmen will be gone by senior year anyway), we get to see it more often but it is still very special and rare.

New Uniforms on Eastbay

The above link leads you to the new uniform, on sale at Eastbay. (Kevin Riley!)
Sorry
Sorry, Wrong link. Here are the uniforms on eastbay:

Sorry again
The links don’t seem to work on the comment feature, so you’ll just have to paste this address into your browser:
Links?
Anybody know why my links won’t work? I did it correctly. Golden Blogs, could you work on that?
Go Bears. Beat SC.
Avoiding bad links
http://www.eastbay.com/catalog/productdetail.cfm?model_nbr=51680&sku=15300813
Davis, URLs can contain dangerous scripts so the website will filter anything fishy out. To avoid this clean up your URL. I’m not going to explain how CGI works, but here’s a few tips.
1) after the heart of the URL (...com/folder/folder/folder) you will see a question mark ”?” ... this tells the website to run a program such as a search program… in this case called “model_nbr=51680” . This part is needed.
2) after that variables the program needs can be denoted by a “&” sign, in this case, “&sku=15300813” ... this is also needed.
3) everything afterward including other URLs are usually extra details for them to track how you got there to begin with. This extra stuff is what the PHP engine at CGBs does not like and will filter out.
Take a look at a few DVDs on amazon and look at the URL. See if you can see CGI at work.
correction
the CGI “program” comes before the question mark ”?” (here called productdetail.cfm) and other arguments come after… these can be variables such as the model number or “model_nbr=51680” and a second variable, the sku number or, “&sku=15300813” ...
sorry Davis, not many shopping sites use this type of long scripting anymore so i haven’t thought about it in a while.
anyway, my point is to clean a URL…just identify the program and variables… then you can cut out the rest.
Or, alternatively, copy the text of the URL. Then, highlight some text in the comment. Go to the silver link lookie icon to the left of the green tree photo icon. Click on the linky icon, paste in the URL, hit the “open in another tab” box and voila!

Thank you
Thanks, guys.
On another note, has anyone else noticed the subtle “claw scratches” across the new uniforms’ shoulders? You can see them easiest on the gold uniforms.
throwbacks
I agree that the Joe Roth throwbacks should be used sparingly. I’d love to see the rugby striped jerseys and block C helmets for the Pappy game.
By the way, the new uniforms are a big step up from the “off the shelf” look. Hopefully, they’ll finally figure out how to make the numbers and stripes the same tone of yellow, but I’m just too picky.
Go Bears!
#13 on Eastbay
Does Nike know something about the QB situation that we don’t? Why else would they put a #13 jersey out there? This isn’t exactly like the year they sold #24 before people found out that Marshawn switched to #10. They could easily have gone with Best’s #4 in addition to Follett’s #56, which I will probably get. Now I have to decide on which color…

Good work on those
The only combos I like:
Anything w/blue pants
Blue jersey/gold pants
White/White
Maybe Blue/white
All gold is sorta nasty and too West Virginia-like. White/gold and gold/white just don’t look very good to me.
combos
In no particular order my favs:
Blue jersey/gold pantaloons
Gold jersey/blue pants
White jersey/gold pants (am I the only one who thinks this combo is tight?)

Gallery good, white pants bad
Yea, maybe I’m alone, but I don’t think the white pants work. They hark back to a time when Michael Jackson/Big Hair were all the rage and wedding singers roamed the earth. I just don’t like any white pants! Everyone’s soccer mom knows how hard they are to clean! Maybe those dirt smears are sexy in baseball after a game-winning slide, but in football… you’re just a pansy…
You are a soccer mom?

If you go to eastbay and type in “cal” in the search box you can find it pretty easily (after wading through some Southern Cal stuff.)
Well, I’m going to buy Zack Follett’s jersey…I bought Nate’s last year and I don’t want to jinx anything. These uniforms are great, but I’m glad we don’t look like the Mountaineers anymore.
Tackle Twill #56
calbears.com added a Tackle Twill blue #56 for $70. I’d pay the extra $10 over the iron-on.
And I guess it’s even funnier that we’re playing Michigan State first. They’ll be wondering if they’ve even left the state.

Are we alone?
It seems like only those watching have figured out the similarities between our uniforms since the Kapp era and Michigan. Maybe if we actually used Gold instead of yellow, that might help. We are the GOLDEN Bears, after all. Also, the block numbers can go now that we have the slashy bits of colors in the tops and bottoms. Something a little more rounded would flow better and distance from maizies a little bit more.
yes, and I must admit that they are as much to blame in the confusion. Maize is a softer, lighter yellow than they have on their uniforms. Still, if we are the Golden Bears, shouldn’t we wear gold? Unfortunately, we’d end up with uniforms that look like ND.
After decades of domination, when our grandchildren are discussing uniforms, they’ll wonder why Michigan and ND tried to copy our look.
Check out the history
Love the new look, even though it makes us look like West Virginia.
Check out the history around our helmets:
Pac10 Helmet Designs
My fav is the white background and the red question mark… what a metaphysical statement! Brilliant!
I really wish you could customize the jerseys. I’d totally add a Runningwolf or D. Muffin to my ever burgeoning collection of Marshawn jerseys. I guess I’ll have to wait for them to go pro.

I'm just disappointed they don't have player names on the back of their jerseys
But I guess that’s pretty much universal across all college teams.
I'm still wondering why the Nets didn't draft Leon Powe.
by yellow fever on Jun 25, 2008 1:50 PM PDT up reply actions
It’s something about licensing and how they’re amateur athletes. I think the pros get some kind of fee for having their names on the jerseys or anything else that is sold. It’s the same deal with the names in the video games.
I’m sure someone here can give a much more detailed explanation, but the answer boils down to amateur vs. pro.
You could always take your jersey to a place like Shirtique (at least in the Bay Area) and have them stitch the name on there. If you’re really picky you can have them put it on a nameplate first and attach the plate to the jersey, just like the real ones. I just might do that if I get the tackle twill Follett jersey. Just bring in pictures of what the actual name/jersey look like. I almost did that with my Rodgers jersey.
Yeah, I know
That’s the reason, but it’s still a little disappointing. I mean, how am I supposed to remember fifty years down the line whether my number 10 jersey was for Marshawn, or Desmond Bishop?
Rhetorical question.
I'm still wondering why the Nets didn't draft Leon Powe.

Uniform Preferences for this season
Michigan State- Gold bottoms, gold tops. GOLD OUT!
Washington State- Blue bottoms, white tops.
Maryland-Blue bottoms, white tops.
Colorado State-Blue bottoms, Blue tops.
Arizona State- Blue bottoms, blue tops.
Arizona-Blue bottoms, white tops.
UCLA- Gold bottoms, blue tops. Why not?
Oregon-Let’s go gimmicky for the Ducks and go ALL GOLD.
USC- WHITE OUT-White bottoms and tops. Last year we saved it for our biggest road game of the season, @Oregon.
Oregon State-Blue bottoms, white tops
Stanford-Blue bottoms, blue tops. Nothing special until the axe comes back.
Washington- Blue bottoms, blue tops.
Bowl Game-depends. Rose bowl: Blue bottoms and gold tops. Emerald Bowl-Blue & Blue. Las Vegas-Blue and Gold. And Holiday bowl gets the blue bottoms and gold tops. And if we are the away team, go all white. And if we don’t make any of those bowls, I don’t give a damn.

you, sir, have put a lot of thought into this. have you considered a career in fashion design?
So, basically, you gotta Go Bears!
No. I haven't.
And I don’t plan to. And I made a mistake, we should only go REALLY gimmicky once a year, so the bottoms for michigan state should be blue, not gold. I think we should get a white helmet for away games. With a gold stripe down the middle.
GOLD OUT!

What I like
is how the new jerseys have bear claw marks on the shoulders. I find that to be pretty cool. The helmets at least do not have a solid stripe down the middle. I enjoy how they are unique in comparison to other schools.
Gold jersey/Blue pants at home?
For what it’s worth, there’s a new gameplay video of NCAA09 that shows Cal wearing Gold on Blue at home. I hope that isn’t the default, as Gold should be reserved for the bigger games.

There is now
a #4 Jahvid Best Blue jersey on calbearsshop.com. If they come out with a #4 or a #13 in gold, I’ll buy it.

New Uniforms
I don’t understand why white is in the equation. Our school colors are blue and gold. There is NO WHITE in blue and gold.
At Home: Blue tops, gold pants
Away: White tops, gold pants
And no WHITE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
New Uniforms Part 2
I meant no ALL WHITE on the road.
