New Cal Football Logo
The calbears.com store is selling a Nike hat with the new logo that can be seen, although not so clearly, in the NCAA 09 caps that show the new unis.

I don't love it, but I don't hate it either. It'll probably grow on me. I'll take the new look, but they need to scrap the stripe on the helmet. That's a TERRIBLE idea.
The opinions expressed in a FanPost are not necessarily those of the California Golden Blogs or any of its authors. However, they are just as important as the opinions of any of the authors. And doubly so as compared to TwistNHook!

I’m with you. I don’t hate it, but I don’t love it either. Pretty sure I won’t be buying one.
So, basically, you gotta Go Bears!

the emblem is cool, but the yellow strip is ghetto.
plus, why do they have to put a Nike label on it? I hate being an advertisement, especially, if I’m going to pay for it! No THANK you! I’ll be buying my Cal stuff off campus without the label and the price.

It’s about perception. Lacoste watered down its brand in the 80s and 90s. My parents dressed me in Lacoste when I was a young kid. Not because they were particularly good at dressing me (they weren’t, bless their old hippie hearts), but because Lacoste was just plain everywhere, then. it ruined the brand. Then, IIRC, they almost literally removed their product from the shelves to restore the brand.
When they returned the brand, it was exciting, which created buzz. They kept supplies limited to keep the brand strong. They clothed celebrities and other trendy people in it to help increase perception. And they priced it at a place where it is more than regular, but not out of the reach of most people (about 70 bucks for a polo).
And they keep it out of the Rosses and TJ Maxxes of the world to keep it special. yes, its not really different than any other polo shirt, but they’ve managed to convince people it is.

Hmmm
How come all these “new” caps are so ugly. I think I’m going to stick with my Cal baseball cap for a while. It’s classic and simple.
