The Track Championships continue. Cal had four people go yesterday, but only one qualified for the finals in their events. At least from yesterday's group. There were others who qualified for the finals. Here is the list for the running events today and the field events today (caution: PDF lists of the events, so a)they open slowly and b)they just list all the events and you have to look through for the Cal people). Here's another article on the track Championships and Cal's Alysia Johnson. Key excerpt:
Cal senior Alysia Johnson, defending collegiate champion in the 800 meters, is out of the NCAA track and field championships.
Johnson felt pain in her right foot Wednesday evening after her first-round race, and coach Tony Sandoval, determined not to risk her chances of making the Olympic team later this month, scratched her from Thursday's semifinal round at Des Moines, Iowa.
"She could have run today," Sandoval said by phone from Des Moines. "She wasn't very happy with me. She could have run Saturday (in the final) and won — she's a good two seconds better than everybody else.
"I just didn't want to take that chance. It's not worth risking the Olympic trials and the Olympics to win another NCAA title. There's too much at stake."
Is Alysia Johnson the one going out (who went out?) with Justin Forsett? If so, their kids would be incredibly athletic. Hopefully, her plan to skip the nationals here in hopes of the Olympics works out. Cal has had some great olympians in the past (Natalie Coughlin is the first to jump to mind) and hopefully, Ms. Johnson can continue that tradition.
Another article on Anderson . Nothing truly groundbreaking. Yknow he always had the exact same face when he goes to make a quick shot like this:
The clock is ticking.
Don't forget about the Grandmas For Trees Defensive Maneuvers Practice tomorrow at 11 at Ohlone Park. I'm def gonna try to make it out. Oddly enough, I love Grandmas and I love trees. But I get the feeling I'm not gonna love this.
Lastly, check out Reut Regev , the Israeli born Trombone/Flugelbone player. She was just in the city, although I missed her. Here's a short clip of a favored solo of mine. I think that link'll work. If not go to her sounds page and listen to the solo on "What Is Real?" near the bottom of the page.
Good luck to all the Cal athletes competing in the NCAA Track Championships. Go Bears!
