CGB Tailgate : Decision Time
OK, I've got this CGB tailgate thing nailed down to two options:
Option #1: We meet up at the CAA tailgate.
Pros:
- Everything's taken care of; food, drink, tables, plates, everything.
- Appearances by the Cal Band, the Dance Team, Oski, and Sandy Barbour.
- Depending on how many attend, we can have several tables set up together and marked off for us, maybe with a giant banner and stuff. A nice, visible gathering place for everyone.
- Rain or shine, we'll have a good time: the CAA tailgate is indoors!
Cons:
- Basically, cost. Even with discounts for students, young alums, families, and those who promise not to eat anything (drinks only), it's still more than a nominal fee to attend.
- Attendance, mostly related to cost. Those who want to casually stop by but don't want to pay for the CAA tailgate can't just pop in and hang out for a 20 minutes or whatever.
Option #2: Pot Luck tailgate in the parking lot
Pros:
- Cheap. Although I'd like everyone to contribute something, most contributions will be far cheaper than a ticket to the CAA tailgate.
- Casual. Anyone can stop by for 5 minutes or 5 hours.
Cons:
- Parking is $20 per spot, as opposed to much less than that on public transit.
- Those who've already committed to the CAA tailgate may not want to (or be able to) join us. CBKWit, in particular, is already committed to working the that tailgate.
- As an outdoors tailgate, we may get rained on. The forecast for Saturday is currently a few showers, 30% chance of precipitation, temperature between 52° and 42° F. I can work on maybe trying to find a tent, but I wouldn't at all be surprised if we're all a lot more comfortable indoors.
So, if you're planning on attending, or think you might attend, vote in the poll below. If you don't care, let me know that, too. If you've got some other thoughts on the matter that might sway us in one direction or the other, feel free to share. I want to make a decision on this by tomorrow, but I wanted to get as much input from all y'all before I do. Thanks.

tough decision. I won’t be there (visiting family on E. Coast) so I didn’t vote.
I’m a big fan of tailgating outdoors and did so for even the Monsoon Game (Oregon). I highly recommend a tent canopy (or 3) EZ up, if available. If that’s not possible, then the indoor version should be considered (that was hard to type). No one will have fun being soaked before kickoff in chilly weather. The EZ ups make it fun…plus you can actually BBQ.
The opinions expressed in a FanPost are not necessarily those of the California Golden Blogs or any of its authors. However, they are just as important as the opinions of any of the authors. And doubly so as compared to TwistNHook!
Can't somebody else do it?
I’m going to the game and down for a CGB tailgate, but since I’m BARTing into the city bringing a dish would be difficult. Not a big fan of the CAA tailgate either ($40 can buy many peanuts. Money can be used in the exchange of goods and services). I was thinking of hitting the 21st amendment or Zeke’s before the game. That could be easier an easier option.
I'm down for either but...
Parking lot is cooler. But I’m BARTing in also and I’d probably end up buying something from an SF place nearby rather than bring it from Berkeley or San Jose.
If you guys do meet up at a bar though…. I’m not going to make it :(
In other words, Go Bears!
I don't want to meet at a bar either...
but would a bar keep you out? I know a bunch in Berkeley that’ll let you wander around even if you’re not 21. I guess you wouldn’t want to leave it up to chance though.
I’ve never been to a bar that hasn’t kicked me out. So I’m not up to finding out on the day of the tailgate
In other words, Go Bears!
When I was under 21, no bar ever kicked me out, except Kips, which is unreasonably strict.
I have no new information on that at this time.
Times have changed.
I’ve tried over 10 different ones in the city of Berkeley and SF combined and I’ve been kicked out of all of them
In other words, Go Bears!
Pasand Lounge on Shattuck and Bancroft (I think), across the street from Beckett’s. When I had friends who were underage, that’s where we drank.
I have no new information on that at this time.
Many bars will only card you at the bar (as opposed to the door) before a certain time of day. This is the case at Blake’s and Raleigh’s, for example.
Don’t go to Pasand, the family that owns it are pieces of shit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lakireddy_Bali_Reddy
(Sorry to keep throwing wikipedia links at you, Rishi)
I outworthless the Maharg.
I put down that I don't care
The rain scares me for the parking lot one, but if I survived SC in ‘07 and Oregon in ’08 a little rain won’t keep me away. One issue: Who will be bringing the car(s) if we do the parking lot? I can contribute some cash (in addition to food/drink) to help defray the excessive $20 surcharge.
I definitely won’t be at the CAA tailgate so I’m down for our own – although I won’t have much to bring in terms of food. I can bring something which I can purchase at a store.

I believe me and my friends are going to the CAA tailgate.
It's seriously too bad that there's no building or complex around that might have a large supply of sports drinks.
Let’s do a CGB tailgate! Potluck style!
I’d offer a car, but I don’t have one. I will be walking from my flat to the tailgate and I’ll have a coworker with me.
I’ve done CAA, but I’d rather be in a relatively smaller group with cooler people and not have to waste $40.
I have no new information on that at this time.
which did you mean to select?
it looks like i’m going to leave people out either way i choose, unfortunately.
So, basically, you gotta Go Bears!
I'll try to stop by if not CAA
The current plan is that the wife and kid will be coming in pre-game and do SF-ish things, but they are not attending the game itself. So depending upon when they go away I’ll stop by and say hi. Somebody post where-ish and some identifiable marker to indicate exactly which is the CGB tailgate…
ok, it's settled.
it’ll be a parking lot pot-luck tailgate. i should be in the lot by 1pm, maybe earlier. i’ll have a large, visible tent that should be pretty easy to find.
more details to follow.
people going to the CAA tailgate, feel free to stop by, even if it’s only for 10-20 minutes. say hey, have a beer, whatever. i’m trying to be as inclusive as possible with this.
So, basically, you gotta Go Bears!
I’ll stop by, and I’ll bring a food item of some sort. And maybe a beer item, but I figure there will be plenty of that brought by others.

great list, calfan
i’ll try and have a more complete post up tomorrow morning, but right now, i’m planning on parking, bringing a tent (hopefully with some sort of CGB sign — working on that) and maybe a table if i can scare up one. i will also be bringing some plates, utensils, nametag stickers, a stereo (w/ Cal Band CD, of course), some soft coolers with some beer in them, a small coleman grill in case anyone brings grillables, and a football.
So, basically, you gotta Go Bears!

As an addendum I am NOT bringing Blue and Gold jello shots because that would be kind of tricky on Bart.

I’m bringing beer, probably a 12-pack of Heineken Light.
Also, is rags going to put “CGB” at the top of the tent so it’s easier to spot?
Finally, nametags would be cool. I’ll be easy to figure out. Imagine what I look like, because I look exactly like that.
I have no new information on that at this time.
Heineken light??
