College Football Bowl Pick'em Reminder!

If you haven't already signed up for our Bowl Pick'em and would still like to, there's still time!  The instructions again:

  1. You'll need a Yahoo! ID - once you do
  2. Click here
  3. Use group #13086
  4. Password "gobears"

I think we'll be using confidence points if only because I'm too lazy to change them, and it seems more fun.  Besides, who doesn't want to put 34 points on the line on Rutgers vs. NC State in the Papajohns.com bowl?!?!?  You know, besides me.

The opinions expressed in a FanPost are, in every way, reflective of the opinions of every California Golden Blogs Marshawnthusiast. Moreover, they are reflective of every employee of SBNation, including Tyler "Blez" Bleszinski.

That’s what I hate about college bowl pick-’ems – those damn confidence points. Seriously, please get rid of them.

It’s fun predicting scores. It’s not fun predicting “confidence”. Seriously. Please.

Is there anything you ever like? Yknow, besides Ray Malugagh and Quizz.

Please disregard the above ramblings as those of a clearly delusional fan.

I feel that without confidence points, bowl pick-’ems could be as popular as NCAA brackets. Just pick who wins each game.

There are way too many tiebreakers that could go into effect regarding
“guess the stupid score of the BCS title game” and someone will just randomly guess a number. It’s easier to win an NCAA bracket outright.

True – but for individual brackets like these, there shouldn’t be confidence points.

So winner of the bowl pick’em gets a dinner date with Twist at Chez Panisse?

In that case, I just might have to delete my account just in the off chance that I win.

Go Bears!

Hooray confidence. I can’t wait to lose seventeen points on the N. Illinois-La Tech game.

I did the pickem backwards last year (with a different group) and won, but most of that was dumb luck, obv.

any chance we can challenge one of the other Pac blogs to a pick ’em contest? Winner gets…something?

Instead of Confidence Points...

…I would love to have it be against the spread. That would decrease the chance of ties and also be helpful for betting purposes!

by MCM711 on Dec 15, 2008 5:31 PM PST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Um, it isn’t against the spread?

by BearsNecessity on Dec 15, 2008 5:40 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Oh my god. It isn’t.

Well my chances of winning this thing just dropped to zero.

I’m literally devastated. I spent about twenty minutes researching the lines and reorganizing them. Now it’s all crap. Damnit.

Um… wow, I can’t believe it isn’t.

That may be because the spread constantly changes, but still!

I have no new information on that at this time.

and i greatly dislike how it tells me what percentage of people pick which team to win

I don't get this confidence point shit

So I randomly ordered it.

In other words, Go Bears!

by royrules22 on Dec 16, 2008 10:37 AM PST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Basically, you assign the most “confidence points” to the team which you REALLY think will win. For, say, Missouri vs. Northwestern, you’re probably pretty darn sure Missouri is going to win. Therefore, you’d assign it the maximum confidence points, so that when Missouri wins, you’d get 34 points. For Northern Illinois vs. Louisiana Tech, you a) have no clue who is going to win (and b) don’t care), so you’d assign it 1 confidence point.
