New Cal Gift/Memorabilia

New Cal Gift item at the ASUC-Cal Student Store

Following on its successful introduction of playing cards with Cal historical photos and text, the Cal Student Store at the ASUC is introducing a new necktie, and soon, a new scarf.  The necktie is available now, and captures John Galen Howard's original drawing of a proposed "Sather Tower" (the Campanile), from his architectural studio (see original rendering below).  The silk tie has the rendering in a golden hue similar to that used by Howard in the original rendering, but tapers to a dark blue.  When wearing the tie with a buttoned suit coat, the dark blue would be visible, and only when the jacket is opened would the beautiful rendering appear.  This will be a unique Cal collector's item, reasonably priced for a silk tie at $36.00.

The neckties will be followed by a scarf of similar design in the near future.

Lame Post....

…I’m not one to talk (about lame posts), but this is just shameless advertising.

My initial thought was to delete, bc it is just shameless advertising as 33SS notes. However, I have met this gentleman before and I know that this is from the official Cal store. So, thats the only thing that is causing me any concern here. Its the official Cal store, maybe we should promote them? I don’t know. We are discussing it internally, any thoughts on that?

Please disregard the above ramblings as those of a clearly delusional fan.

I’m sure he is a fine gentleman and I appreciate Cal gear as much as the next fan, but, well, what next? New polos? Hats? Fluffy Cal-script teddy bears?

Maybe there is ameans by which we can contact this gentleman to discuss other ways to promote official Cal products. Does anybody know his email address?

via the Berkeley directory: permaul@berkeley.edu. He’s listed as Nadesan PERMAUL, PhD; Director -ASUC Auxiliary

Although this was probably not his fault, and he’s a nice guy, so don’t go overboard with the email.

Probably you want to contact the Cal Student Store Director Jeff Deutsch. ucberkeley@bkstr.com who is an employee of eFollet.

Oh irrational hatred, you taste so good in my mouth... Tangy, like sour candy.

What about this...

Do you like Cal?

AND…..

Do you like Victoria’s Secret?

I’M GUESSING THE ANSWER TO BOTH QUESTIONS IS A RESOUNDING YES.

I recently discovered that Victoria’s Secret has Cal affiliated garments for sale, as well as a couple dozen other schools. This epiphany came to me, as most great ones do, during a drunken hookup; this one in particular with another Cal Grad who happened to be wearing aforementioned garments. Mostly clothes, but there are some panties.

The perfect gifts for any Cal Girl this Christmas.

Can we add chili to that list? It might be the tastiest thread ever!

Naturally, it will be played in the Chili Bowl.

You know, I’ve never been a huge chili cheese fan. Just doesn’t do it for me. Now, one of those tasty cheesesteaks from I.B. Hoagies, that would be delicious.

So, basically, you gotta Go Bears!

by ragnarok on Dec 1, 2008 11:34 AM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Man I am so pissed. You used to be able to use the 10-stamp card to get a full cheesesteak…now they changed it to be 2 sizes of cheesesteak: too small, and too big, and you can’t use the 10-stamp card on the too-big without paying like $3 extra.

I hate my life.

by paleodan on Dec 1, 2008 1:51 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I’m rather nonplussed by them, yes. I’d much prefer a Top Dog with ketchup, relish, and mustard. Especially the Russian Hot Mustard.

OMG! That is the awesomest thing I’ve seen. Where can I get one of those?

by CalBandGreat on Dec 1, 2008 2:08 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

That’s from the Google cafeteria in New York. I know some minor league baseball club sells them.

Spam, plain and simple. They should contact you CGB administrator types prior to posting an advertisement here. For permission and signoff I mean.

PLUS! I originally wanted my CGB name to be ‘Hail to California’ only to find it taken when I signed up. Taken for this purpose (aka crap)?! Dude, that’s supreme suckiness!

to be personally influenced

I know Nad, and he’s one of the true true true lights on the Cal campus – keeping the history and tradition alive during the lean times and adding to the lore and knowledge during robust times.

I think if y’all send him an email, he’ll know in the future how to do this more appropriately (might I suggest purchasing advertising?)

Yes, Ive met him before, too, he is a very cool dude. Thats why i was hesitant to auto-delete as I normally would. We did send him an email to hopefully start a conversation on ways we can help the official Cal store better promote its stuff here.

Mea Culpa

To all those fans who were offended by the post I made regarding the new Cal necktie, I apologize. The Associated Students have been providing services to the campus since 1887, and the ASUC Store predates that, opening in 1882. while we now have competitors in Intercollegiate Athletics and among private vendors off campus, we hope to create products (as well as services), that are meaningful to Cal fans and alumni. I will be working through the California Golden Blog in the future to ensure that information I share is not offensive. All the revenues that are generated by the students’ businesses support their historic and long independence. From the Rally Committee to the Informal Debate Society, ASUC student groups benefit from our efforts. Thank you for steering me in the right direction. This is my 42nd year at Berkeley, my three degress are from Cal, and I teach here as well. So I certainly respect the fact that Cal fans are never short of thoughtful input on a given issue.
