Here it is.
If you want to see the high quality full version, download it here:
http://www.filesavr.com/081122-stanfordatcal
- this file MUST be played with either:
VLC Player (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.html)
Media Player Classic (http://www.free-codecs.com/Media_Player_Classic_download.htm)
Ironically, Quicktime is too stupid to play this file due to the high bit rate… so don’t use Quicktime unless you want to see it drop frames like crazy.
If you must… here’s a low quality version on Youtube:

hahah, I saw that. That play was sick, it happened right in front of us. A lot of great things happened right in front of us that day, like the Hook and Ladder and the Morrah TD.

How does one get their name called at the airport?!? I’ve always wanted to know.
It's seriously too bad that there's no building or complex around that might have a large supply of sports drinks.

I love the blocks Riley threw
very Steve Young-like! He did it both on the end around and on Best’s screen pass.
Seriously though…he’s getting a bit to much like Steve Young with his balls to the walls mentality. I love it, but he’s already got one concussion…if only he had the unbelievable accuracy!
thanks danzig!

Aaron Rodgers had that amazing ability to throw blocks downfield. Remember Marshawn Lynch’s run against Stanford freshman year where he outjuked the entire Stanford defense? Aaron Rodgers threw a tough block on that play that knocked the defender back.
I like to see QBs get involved like that instead of just handing off and running two miles away from the play.

I'm wondering if we should run
the option a bit more than once or twice a season. I think it would go well with our quest to confuse the defense.

Running an option or a spread?
Either way, the issue is that it exposes our QB to risk. Kevin Riley is not Tim Tebow, whose body can take absolute bruising and battering. I worry that Riley would get hurt too quickly.
I’d definitely like to see a few more option packages, though. Remember Oregon State last year (the good parts)? Kevin Riley scored on an option keeper. Those kind of plays are definitely safer to run.
I also really want to see some counters and misdirection runs once in a while. It seems that it’s a waste of Jahvid Best’s speed if you’re not going to use it to throw off the defense once in a while.

yeah...I'm not saying run it 5 or 6 times a game
but maybe run it once or twice a game…if it works then maybe try it again. Cal’s MO is to keep the defense guessing…this would certainly do it when mixed in with everything else.
I’d especially do this if there is parity next year at the QB position. If we have 2 or 3 QBs that are roughly equal in abilities (read: suck just enough to drive fans crazy) I don’t really see it as THAT much of a QB risk. What they can’t do is turn it over on last second pitches.

I definitely agree. There are times that Cal should use it and once or twice a game is fine, as long as you’re not advocating to completely change our offensive philosophy.
That’s why there’s been more advocacy to run plays out of Wild Bear formation. The only problem is Jahvid Best can’t throw, so that aspect is out. But if Tedford works on it, it’d be great.

Yeah, that was the play.
Do you have that play in 2005 against Washington where Joe Ayoob takes the snap, runs upfield, pump fakes, then continues to run? That was an awesome game.
Hell, we should have used Joe Ayoob as our own Tim Tebow and spelled Longshore with him in 2006 just to run between tackles.

I remember that game.. Rojo and Forsett when huge in that game. We scored like 50pts.
Yes I have that footage on DVD at home… but it’s not on my laptop because I never archived any highlight plays for Ayoob.

Yeah, and Washington wasn’t miserably bad back then either.
I think that was the game that gave me confidence in Ayoob. Then other things happened.

For whatever reason they didn’t have the game on up here in Oregon. I was bummed, but I also thought it’d be a better showing from Stanford.

To be fair, Stanford racked up like 200+ offensive yards inthe first half. They were moving the ball pretty easy with runs and underneath passes. They literally had 3 drives of over 80 yards for a combined 3 points. They missed 1 field goal, fumbled another at about the 15, and then got stufed on 2nd and 1 and 3rd and 1 at the one to settle for a field goal. Certainly, they score 3 TDs there and its 21-10 going into half, its a totes diff ballgame!

Yes, our punting was amazing in the first half. Saved our ass. Anger has a 76 yard punt that literally stopped at the 1. Perfect punt. I believe Stanford then drove to the Cal 15 and missed a field goal. It goes1 more yard, Stanford starts on their 20, prolly scores a TD there. Quite the tightrope Cal walked in the first half.

Anger’s reaction after the 75-yarder was classic… sort of like, “sorry guys, I didn’t mean to punt it that far… I’ll work for just short of the end zone next time…”

I’ll still keep it around and see if I can use it in an intro somewhere.

I made you some DVDs from my own source files
The quality is theoretically as good as it can be since I own the source files. I can’t imagine FLV to MPEG2 (dvd) looking as good as this. Here are the torrents, just burn them to DVD.
