Around SBN: Clippers Need To Realize That Spurs Are The Anti-Grizzlies

California-Pacific Basketball Open Thread

I know nothing about this team except they lack size (if you want some real knowledge about both of them, click here for ragnarok's preview), but I know there are some basketball people up here. It's 36-20 at halftime and the Bears defense has been stifling, forcing some terrible shooting from the Tigers. You can find a video stream of the game at http://channelsurfing.net/

Follow along with the stream and let's end this disappointing day on a high note! GO BEARS!

Nice videos of kids dribbling two basketballs right now. Good stuff.

I am guessing most of these sorta games will be available through Cal’s multimedia site, assuming you’d want to pay.

by BeastMode on Nov 15, 2008 5:57 PM PST reply actions

This game is deceptive

Three point shooting is the difference between Cal and Pacific.

by BearsNecessity on Nov 15, 2008 6:04 PM PST reply actions

I knew we would be a three point team given our size, but we’re going to be taking hundreds of these this year.

by BearsNecessity on Nov 15, 2008 6:05 PM PST up reply actions

Generally, making shots is the difference in any basketball game

by Tedfordisgod on Nov 15, 2008 6:05 PM PST up reply actions

I mean the Bears are shooting lights out, but it’s mostly on jumpers. That’s not as sustainable as going inside the paint. Wouldn’t be surprised if Pacific makes a run.

by BearsNecessity on Nov 15, 2008 6:07 PM PST up reply actions

Yeah, looks like we are going to have a tough time inside this year. Fortunately, we actually do have some pretty lights out shooters this season in Robertson, Christopher and Randle, which makes me feel better about our prospects. It, of course, all depends on Randle being able to be a steady point while scoring some points, and Robertson and Christopher making the jump to 20ppg guys. Sometimes guys just struggle making the jump from being a good player to being a star. I think Christopher can, but he hasn’t shown enough yet for me to be confident.

And right on cue…Max Zhang dunk!

by Tedfordisgod on Nov 15, 2008 6:18 PM PST up reply actions

Contrary to what I have been told, Zhang looks pretty athletic out there, he set a high screen and weaved through traffic to get into rebounding position.

by Tedfordisgod on Nov 15, 2008 6:19 PM PST up reply actions

His fundamentals are strong.

Bak Bak is going to file for bankruptcy? Oh noes!

Please disregard the above ramblings as those of a clearly delusional fan.

Yeah, I’m surprised too. I didn’t even think the guy would play unless the game was out of hand this year.

by BeastMode on Nov 15, 2008 6:21 PM PST up reply actions

Max Zhang looked a lot better today then he did against Seattle Pacific. And not just because he had a dunk!

by paleodan on Nov 15, 2008 11:37 PM PST up reply actions

Randle’s jumpshot looking smoother though.

by BearsNecessity on Nov 15, 2008 6:10 PM PST reply actions

BearsNecessity, your earlier prediction of a Pacific was so accurate, I am tempted to blame anything that happens the rest of the game on you

by Tedfordisgod on Nov 15, 2008 6:22 PM PST reply actions

that should read a “Pacific run”

by Tedfordisgod on Nov 15, 2008 6:22 PM PST up reply actions

Zhang being in might stable that.

by BearsNecessity on Nov 15, 2008 6:24 PM PST up reply actions

What has happened to D.J. Seeley? Is he either hurt or ineligible?

by Tedfordisgod on Nov 15, 2008 6:25 PM PST reply actions

Monty like to play freshman immediately?

by BearsNecessity on Nov 15, 2008 6:30 PM PST up reply actions

No, not generally, but Jorge Gutierrez is getting PT. I guess we may just have too many decent 2 guards

by Tedfordisgod on Nov 15, 2008 6:32 PM PST up reply actions

I do like Zhang’s insertion, but I don’t know how could this team’s interior defense will be against Pac-10 offenses.

by BearsNecessity on Nov 15, 2008 6:41 PM PST reply actions

Solid win

Didn’t learn much, other than Max has huge potential.

by BearsNecessity on Nov 15, 2008 7:04 PM PST reply actions

I was at the game with CBKWit

We’ll have some thoughts up shortly (probably tomorrow). Overall, I like this team better than I did after the Seattle Pacific exhibition game. Yes, they lack size, but I really like the starting combo or Randle, Christopher, and Robertson, and I think there’s a good amount of room for improvement here.

So, basically, you gotta Go Bears!

I hate the start of hoops season

because it reminds me that the football offseason is approaching and it is very long…

The Maharg makes me look like an idiot.
